Excellent post! The whole thing has been orchestrated by him to try and get a global stage for him to spout his bile into the world (who are now unfortunately waiting to hear what he has to say).
The best thing they could now is to keep the whole thing behind closed doors and not allow court reports to be released. Don't give the flame any oxygen and it will die out.
The main problem I would say is that the majority of PC users are completely clueless with regards to keeping their system patched and up to date let alone making sure they have decent antivirus. So unless you can ship an OS which is secure and never needs patching the problem is not going away anytime soon.
the difference was we weren't missing out on anything as it didn't exist in it's current form. To go from having something to not having it is much harder than never having it in the first place.
Having moved house more times than I care to remember (and subsequently being without an internet connection for weeks at a time) I'd suggest simply turning your router off at home for a few weeks and see what you miss. I'm guessing that it will be a lot. You don't realise how much you rely on the internet until it isn't there anymore.
You need to look at the bigger picture. Journals put relevant articles together and distribute them to selected target audiences, they have a justifiable reason for existing and have to charge to keep running. You aren't just paying for the PDF you are supporting the journal and it's staff to continue working. How else do you think the journals fund themselves?
It's highly likely they set up new accounts and are making sure their parents don't get added as friends this time. My 18yo daugher isn't on my friends list as she wouldn't want me seeing her page and I wouldn't want her seeing mine.
Agreed. I don't understand all the Facebook bashing. If people post stuff you don't like, either get Facebook to hide it or defriend them. It's not hard.
The motivation being, if they don't crack down on it then big business will pull out of China and go somewhere more 'trustworthy'.
The likelihood is lots of foreign business will pull out of China over the next few years anyway due to the huge increase in production (ie. wage) costs.
Turn it off for any auto tagged photo of yourself, if you upload a photo which has your friends in it can auto tag them if they have allowed it.
You should also have the option of not allowing other people to tag you, not retroactively removing tags after they have been applied.
It will be interesting the next time a public disturbance (riot etc) occurs somewhere and the local police ask for Facebooks help in identifying peoples faces in CCTV images.
The correct way of implementing this would be the next time you log in it asks whether it is ok to turn this feature on (with a proper explanation of the pros and cons of doing so).
That way the average user of Facebook would be able to make an informed decision as to whether they want it on or off.
by rocker switch I was reffering to the ones that don't actually stay in the desired position. Many of the newer PSU's have a switch that can be flicked off but it then returns to the default position again. They are more like a button than a switch.
pfff... the internet was on my desktop in 1992

nothing is ever 100% secure, at least they are making an effort to shut down the spam pushers.

Hugh Grant was one of the phone hacking victims.
Silly me. I thought connections were what the internet was all about.
I'd say not allowing use of the auction house is related to gold selling.
Lots of societies publish journals and they certainly have paid staff which do lots of work behind the scenes.
Because they distribute the articles to the correct target audience and also act as a filter to stop important research being lost in a sea of dross.

For the Mac I'd say use Coda: http://www.panic.com/coda/
You do realise Russia isn't in the US right? :)
My wife has a piece of tape permanently over the webcam on her netbook :D

No sillier than all the recent gesture / software patent applications :)
Chuck Norris is/was a karate geek.
I'm going to patent the gesture of someone knocking one out.... I'm gonna be mega rich !11!!
