In all honesty I read your post that you are clearly emotionally involved in the investment. You will inevitably downplay bad news or indicators and emphasize insignificant good indicators or news. In the end you'll probably double down in a decline when you should be selling and you'll end up losing your shirt. I speak from experience here. Don't ever invest in something you can't be 100% rational about.
Um.. just who were you referring to, here? I scoured the thread carefully, and frankly, all I could find were people who appeared *not* to have invested in FB.. couldn't find a positive recommendation anywhere.. which I happen to second, incidentally..
.. because everybody's already beat me to it here, modding all the good one up to 5.. this may be my most favorite/. article in a while, especially with the early comments supporting the 'Engineer" idea for politicians as problem solvers.... which i had not considered before, but after reflection, *does* seem the way to go...
Is there anyone in North America who *doesn't* know that there's a food glut here?.. The amount of waste that's thrown away, of good food, is sickening.. The problem is DISTRIBUTION.. which is essentially stymied by the economics of the "free market".. even where I live.. there are restaurants that POISON their waste food with rat poison or other sprays (as reported in the Canadian media some 3 years ago) in order to comply with some regulation or other.. and other "expired" food is thrown out, rather than sent to food banks, out of concerns of lawsuits... World food banks that send food to remote places like Africa, cannot accept food, but must accept only cash, and then BUY food, leaving the waste to ROT.. Did any one of you ever have a Mum that told you "clean your plate, because there's people starving in Africa;-)? Well, do you really think we would ever be able to send our leftovers there?..So... How about , instead, a study that addressed how to *resolve* the food glut?
|Even the best researchers don't know ahead of time which drugs will successfully treat the given problem with acceptable side effects|...but but.. that's why they put them on the market.. to.. er.. find out.. (Facetious!)..And unfortunately, i *am* VERY aware of all the procedures that are involved in the testing for the FDA mandates.. a fiscally wasteful, bureaucratically OBESE department that exists only to perpetuate itself.. the amount of people that have died, because of over legislated and ridiculously expensive requirements slowing down approval, that could be accomplished at a tenth or less of the cost , is obscene.... as is the less than ethical efforts by *some * in the pH biz to recoup their costs by releasing risky pharmaceuticals that they know they got away with fast-tracking, when they did NOT deserve it.. that behavior simply adds another layer of FDA cost and testing in the future....
How about letting patent examiners determine the duration instead of keeping a fixed time for everything? Pharmaceuticals with decade long trial periods would be protected for longer, software patents (like "slide to unlock") only for a few years.
Absolutely.. it's the very *lack* of flexibility that's half the problem today..
If we in Canada had a constitution worth more than the paper It was printed on, the Gov't would NEVER be able to ram laws like this down our throats.. but since ANY government can enact any law overturning any article in it... especially Harper's, since he feels justified in ignoring the laws that inconvenience him..
I think science simple confirms the greatness of what we know as:"God" when one considers immense suns, quasars, black holes, galactic formations, proto-stars and proto-galaxies, and the immense size of it all, and then consider some entity even greater than all this.. does not that give you *pause* to realize just how IMMENSE that entity must BE?
I grew up in a Dutch household, where I learned that Dutch pride in Philips is so strong, it borders on worship;-).. If you have a satisfied Dutch customer, you have a customer for life.. in other words, the dutch are very loyal, and would never make a claim that could hurt the company that employs them..Now.. translate that into a company comprised entirely of Dutchmen (and er.. women;-)..
If they say something's gonna work, you can BET on it.. I have absolutely no doubt that this new lightbulb will last as long as, and be worth exactly what they're claiming...
I don't actually *need* a light bulb now, though...;-)
Part of the problem is there is no clear definition of where middle class ends and upper class begins.
Untrue.. there's a very *simple* test.. if you have to check your bank account before buying a large luxury item such as a boat or car, you're middle class, If you do NOT need to check how much you have, you're upper...
I'm not saying it's not possible, but it's just not gonna happen that OSX ever becomes much of a target, and the main reason is because of Apple itself. iOS is the nice juicy ripe plum for all the malware developers.. who are, afetr all, only interested in maximizing their results.. previously, Windows was the biggest target, but now it's the mobile OS's....
I 'agree'.. If you own (for example) a Ford and need to replace a part, Ford are entirely justified in getting a 30% cut from you, if rather than getting the part through the registered dealer, you went to a used salvage lot instead........NOT!
given 1- The proof that we are are getting warmer is well documented given 2- climate dissenters have no basis for claiming that we are not getting warmer, there fore 30- dissenters are crackpots.. Migod,.. All elephants are Pink. I see an elephant. there fore it must be a pink one.....The fact is, the CRACKPOTS are those who, despite in your face evidence to the contrary, believe the dissenters are countering claims of a warming trend. No sir, they are NOT , but rather asserting the cause is something OTHER than human intervention.. One volcanic eruption has the potential to do what all the novel ideas to reverse warming have failed to do. The *entire solar system*, in fact, is warming at the very same rate. Pollution of the most ectreme type such as the tragic dstate of the North sea, the many hundreds of swuare miles "island of garbage" in the center of the, (i believe) Atlantic, the tumors and weird cankerous growths on sea life in the gulf, the hundreds of dolphins dying off en masse in S.America, all this will kill us off LONG before global warming spurs a new ice age....
So, now its also wind farms, plus dairy farms , plus beef Cattle farms, and fish farms, and Haarp farms..
Mr, Farm, you been a naughty plot of acreage!
I'm so glad it's not volcanos or sunspots, or magnetic anomalies, or exhaust gases.. it's all the farms' fault...
They're insisting that you subscribe to the *competition". in order to get their service? in other words, people who "just" want Hllu, and nothing else, are out in the cold? I use internet to watch TV, as a 'No' frills TV package without even adding 'Net is near 100$ now, $150 -175 if you add internet..
Is Hulu free in the US, or something, why they would do this?
here on/. , but If it hasn't yet been said, I consider this fella a scientific hero for saying the truth..sadly, what was once considered expected behavior in politics, religion and the sciences, is now considered heroic, so perhaps 100 years ago I mightn't have said this.. It's true, that it appears, or did appear, until a couple of years ago, that we are warming up, but it only takes one volcanic eruption to turn things around.. The geologic records clearly show how drastic the climate changes have been over the aeons, and how rapid the onset was also.. Current thinking appears to blame the sun, (of all things) for the variances, as an identical increase in planetary temperature has been measured on all the OTHER planets in our solar system..
I'm not condoning the act of spewing tons of pollutants into our atmosphere, after all, how can it really ever be justified? But don't make the poor countries pay for the excesses of the wealthy.
The difference is that Obama got elected largely *on* his implicit promises to END all the unconstitutional domestic spying, erosion of human rights, and incarceration in places like Gitmo... Instead of doing that he has , in fact, made them more intrusive..
.... has anyone started a petition to get the other Steve back as head honcho at Apple?
Sign me up!!!!!!!!!!!!

The suspense is killing me! What happened next?!
Somebody invented a /. "spam" filter and this thread's first post mysteriously disappeared...
Hey..I can write like that too !. "My computer got repossessed today. My friends, bob and tom have computers too"

Blacberry tablets run QNIX, you know.. if it's good enough for nuclear reactors and hospitals, I wouldn't just write it off that quickly...
