And Santa Claus really is a fat guy who gives you stuff? And "If you can prove that you have a legitimate reason to have that money it will be given back to you" ? Frankly, I have an easier time believing in a bunny that lays coloured eggs every year.. than that "we'll give it back to you" line.. Since when have thieves ever said "Oops, sorry, I didn't realize you needed that money so much. Here, have it back"
The web was doomed to be infiltrated by government snoops right from the beginning, After all, it rides right on TOP of the internet, which was a DARPA initiative from it's inception.. It's non military use was pretty much limited to universities and research facilities.. using "ethernet"..which is where that name ooriginally came from, I think. I'm no expert in the history of the net, but I think that for a secure system to exist then additional cable would physically need to be laid down, or a different medium of information transfer altogether..
And in other cases if you do not reply or contest, they go along with assuming you are guilty. Damned if you do. Damned if you don't.
And no, I am not a lawyer, so I will not understand the difference between these two when they send them to me.
Failing to respond to a threat letter admits nothing. It is when they show up at your door with an actual summons that you should react. Forcefully. 'In my opinion', of course, as IANAL either . Even so, I, unfortunately learned this lesson the hard way;-(.... Personally, I think that statute of limitations notwithstanding, if it can be shown that all these cases were settled by a prosecuting attorney and judge family team with something to gain from their actions, then the law should be redrafted to retroactively prosecute corruption in the legal arena. Of course,it'll never happen
I'm old enough to remember the whole "futurist" mentality of the '50s and '60s, the same that permeated Gene Roddenberry's , Isaac Asimov's, anmd Arthur C. Clarke's thinking.. Wherein such a program was not "welfare", but rather the inevitable consequense of being "freed" from the drudgery of arduous, repetetive, and/or low paid positions by robotics.. It was promoted on TV continuously, as the brave new future, but the actual question of how these "freed" people would support themselves. And once the politicians got their dirty mitts into the machinery they found they could gain an awful lot of traction... read:votes: by blaming a certain segment of society.. that is.. the recently "freed" from work obligations, for all of the current woes and troubles... So much for Utopia. The ulltimate irony is, that instead of blaming an arbitrarily defined segment of society for the then current troubles, a basic income supported by a common pool would have *significantly* increased everybody's standard of living. There's plenty of documentation elsewhere as to why that would be the case .
I think all the complaints are due to the fact that even if all precautions are taken, such as Automatic upgrades disabled, the 10X "upgrade" still takes place. I would assume that most readerts of ZDnet have at least SOME computer experience, yet I have read easily over 100, and probab;ly many more, complaints that despite setting all the parameters against automatic install, it still occurred. In fact, the vast majority of comments posted were complaints about this. So something "jes aint right heah"...
OK perhaps he stated it partly in jest, but actually, it's a real probability.. A very large part of the reason that Germany lost WW2 was because of their tendancy to send the best scientists tio the death camps if they did not comply. So only the ones that had not escaped, and that were willing to do their science for anyone, even the Nazis, remained.. Perhaps they could have refused, and died, was their rationale.. and we don't know for sure how many of the Nazi prototypes failed due to internal sabotage by those same scientists, but then, we also don't know how many of the DPRK projects are failing for the same reason.. That there are fewer scientists in the pool because of the stalinesque manner of recruitment is a certainty, however...
Oh man.. at this rate, if they can't get the timing right with the 'splode button, they'll never get "beroved reader" to unwittingly strap himself in. Or.. maybe.. they got unexpectedly "gifted" right before launch?
Apples is the least open and least compatible, even failing to work with earlier versions of products they made.
If you want openness, use Linux. Fedora, CentOS and Ubuntu are great.
If you want an OS that is most compatible with hardware and software, use Windows.
If you want to "feel cool" while paying a premium, then buy Apple.
As a long time user of Macs, i have noticed a significant shift in focus away from the user to features and behavior only for the benefit of the company, myself. Sorry to say, but the behavior that M$ has adopted recently is right out of the "new" Apple's playbook. And I am convinced it's very much Tim Cooks doing. Certainly Steve Jobs would be "rolling over in his grave", as the expression goes, so see what Tim's been doing to his company. It brings to mind a quote in a mid 90s interview when discussing his appointment of John Sculley.. "What can I say? I made a mistake" To be fair, Sculley did turn Apple around when it was on it's knees. It's just his methods that were iin question. I don't see Cook doing the same.. He's simply coasting.. each 'new' product is less revolutionary that it's predecesor... A bigger screen? phaa! A thinner book? bah! But an OS lifetime of 2 years? Ridiculous! I used to really LIKE Apple... They don't even give me the chance to like them anymore....
I remember when Apple stuff was expensive. Hmm.. I think it was that Quadra.. However, you could always get a cheap mac at woolworth's too.. After Steve came back on board in the late 90s, they were all mostly about the same. So that really is some old complaint. Still hear perople say it though.. Of course the high end mac pros, with specs matching SGI workstations, were pricier. Somebody want to remind me how much one of the Silicon Graphics workstations cost, BTW ?;-)
To simplify.. when you buy a book, you're not buying the story in it, or the words. You're buying the MEDIUM it appears in. With software, this was already settled long ago. Software that only ever was availble in combination with it's storage medium, that is, only on, say , CD, there cannot be more copies available tthan CDs. This makes buyig nd selling of software simple, as it's tied to it's storage medium. of course it can be copied, for, say, backuos, but that is usually specified in the EULA With downloadable software, I guess a random number sequuence ensuring that it's a unique copy could work.. so that you wouldn't need "activation" might work, but better yet, is esch copy being uniquely identifiable with a simple transfer agreement requireing only a transfer agreement and updated contact with the developer. I don't know how that would work with abandonware, however.. Anyways, just my 2 cents here on the subject.
Indeed. I sooo hate "Replies returned for (Google corrected version)" "Choose the actual spelling you entered instead" Great.. so if the great Mr G doesn't like my spelling I have to take three steps instead for every word or phrase... Re: "Didn't you mean...?" Er, no, Mr Google sir.. if I had meant that I would have said so. And how long before they disable unapproved words or spellings altogether? YaVol! Za! All bow down before ze mighty Alphabet.. Ya!
I wholeheartedly agree. That's what the Function / arrows should be for, or at the very least Function / backspace. It's called.. er.. back"space", after all;-) Now if only Chrome could solve it's losing all the passwords forcing me to look them all up again every three months...Some of the most annoying behaviors it's displayed have taken years to address, after all..
Introducing Mac OS X, Xbox 360 Edition! All the hardware failures and locked-down hardware of the Xbox 360, at more than twice the price!
OSX appears to be suffering from either Altzheimers or Kuru.. It appears to have caught it from sucking the brains out of too many Mac users... I.E. it's an obvious memory issue. DOH! Apple claims that OSX handles memory well, but it so does NOT. I've had memory rel;ated freezes when running several apps and then running Chrome too.. it goes right down to less than 50 mb or so and then either freezes or gives me the system error of "Your system has crashed, that;s ok, All your aps have been affected and you DO need to reboot and you have lost all your work" - even though I have 8 gigs RAM.. it's not near enough, but my iMac is maxed out.
Finally I said F this and got a memory app like " freememory"..Don't know if they still make it but it was free,...
I think he's right. There's something very iinsidious about that zika virus, and I haven't yet put my finger on it.. but they've recently confirmd that yes, it's the *virus* and not the spray causing the microencephaly, and the timing of the outbreak is highly suspicious...
Then they should have fixed the accessibility bug I filed six months ago.
Thanks for filing. But, apparently not, according to all the complaints I see on their blog. And here's a semi humorous touch.. BEcause I have my font so large I nearly missed that submission altogether. Was off the screen (!)
What if you've already downloaded it but not installed it? Is it deactivated? I'd certainly like the choice, and since i can't run the same serial of 7 and 10 I can't miultiboot..
And probably nobody will see it. But there's so many ignorant supporters of fast breeders that don't see why they shouldn't be put back in service that I worry about the sanity of the human race. Sure , there's safe nuclear technology, but that requires a complete retooling and rebuiilding of the nuclear infrastructure. Currently we have fast breeders, because of political arm twisting, and not due to any technical superiority. And they are deadly. There's enough plutoonium inthe rubbish to kill everyone several times over.. although I have no current citation for it I am sure it's not difficult to find.. Dropping sealed containers of the spent fuel rods in the Marianis trench is probably the *only* safe place for them, becaude of the high water pressure and extreme cold. Of course space is even better but the risk of an accident on the way to outer orbit is pretty severe.
Currently there's political pressure worldwide to put dozens of reactors back on line. Fast breeders. With plutonium as one of it's by products.. We're already suffering the effects of living in a nuclear soup due to the triple meltdown at Fukushiima Daiichi. I dread to think what could occur if the OK were given for all the others to go operational...
Yes the forced upgrades are to stop.I can't recall where I read it though, yesterday. Personally, though, I have never seen such an absurd business model. Firstly, keep in mind that M$ is a *software* company that has historically derived a large percentage of it's profit from sales of windows.
For them to, then, give away free copies to everybody that wants them, and then after everybody that acually *wanted* one has a copy, theyy start charging over a hundred bucks to the rest who actually *didn't* . I mean, can you imagine i a car company did that? Or any other software company? It woulkd most certainly ruin them. Bu you know what. "I don care! You hear dat Loocy? I don care"
Doesn't matter if it was windows (which of COURSE it was) or not. Just like the case where some presentation was interrupted with a win 10 update screen, the problem is sloppy IT management. Hate to say it, bit the fault really isn't windows, or M$s.. The update should have been blocked prior to the presentation, and the virus scan should be set to *not* run when the system is performing an active operation. Period. This should be pretty obvious to anyone in IT. Makes for lousy press though.. "Operation bllocked because of virus scan" sounds so much morre lurid..
I don't know why I'm replying to an AC, but hey, I didn't like anything he did.. It just never turned MY crank. But as a guitar player, just can't knock what he could do. He was (is) excellent. Way more than "play by the numbers". As a guitarist myself, I was accurately copping Alvin Lee andthe whole Hendric/Page/Beck thing that were the current influences when I was young, but I never got past the whole Van Halen/ Stevie Vai style thing when it came around.. yet Prince was my age and he did, mixing both the new styles and the old, very well. I just hated what he did with it... shlock.. inho..
Normally I'm in favor of choice, but the worst thing that has ever happened to the whole marriage and dating scene is the abandonment of selected partners. It means that , more and more, the gene pool gravitates to only the young rich and beautiful, and leaves the solid reliable but unattractive out in the dust. Look at the typical young californian if you don't believe me.. Selecting partners based on attractiveness and sexual appeal does nothing to extend the human race.. We need robustness, strength and physical health.., reliability, and honesty... personality traits that ARE capable of being genetically passed on.
"I don't trust their "don't be evil" slogan and I seem to recall they've actually gone so far as to remove that."..well.. of course being evil they could just keep it and lie right through their face.. but there must still be a spark of godness left in them to account for their taking it down. According to the Bible: "A fool and his money soon departs."
Citation, please. I don't think the Bible says this.
I think the actual text is "A fool and his money will soon party."
Oh no... "A fool and his money *are* soon apartment"
