A GIMP frontend that mimicks Photoshop (or almost any other image editing software), and I'd wager that you see GIMP on a hella lot of desktops in a rather short time.

GIMP is an outstanding product completely and utterly crippled by its user interface. There may be a few fans and supporters out there, but the sheer fact that GIMP hasn't taken over yet (despite it's almost feature completeness) should end this argument.

The arguments brought up are sickening, especially on a site that presumably caters to the nerd and technologist. A discussion about gerontology starting off with endless harping about what substance Adam and Eve were made of. wtf?

This rabid spread of religious mumbo-jumbo into every niche of daily life is almost physically revolting.

It took mankind so long to get a distance from superstitious, unfounded and uttlery fabricated crap (which everything is until proven otherwise) that is such a hallmark of religion - only to see it resurrected again with a vengeance. In my opinion religion might as well be the single most prevalent threat to the betterment of mankind.

I don't quite see where hashes and recordsets help the compiler to catch your typos. As with both hashes and recordsets, you rely (for the most part) on some String key, which is a bit of a nuisance when a typo etc. happens. Oh yes, you can put the keys in a Constants class or somesuch, but this becomes a pain rather fast.

Not that I'd see this as the most gigantic leap ever done in programming, but it adds to a general repertoire of best practices, which, as a whole, is imho a lot more than just "coming back full circle".

Color me paranoid, but maybe this was just some targeting practice at hurting Linux through the legal system. Up till now it was a roaring success. It stirred up a lot of fuss, and some are putting Linux on hold until the matter is resolved. Not a small feat for an obvious non-issue like the SCO claim.

Just keep on bombarding the community with stuff like that, and Linux will get tainted with "perennial legal problems". A library here, some kernel code there... and even if every single one of the accusations turns out to be utter bullshit, many people may get the impression that it's only a matter of time until one of the claims hits home and they get hurt.
