By making these "light trucks" like the PT Cruiser, auto makers can then make and sell more of the large (and some would say in charge) SUV's. If we pay attention to what CAFE means, these crossovers (cars on stilts) greatly raise the average fuel econ of the "trucks" produced by auto makers.
The only thing that killed the large American sedan was a total lack of refinement. Foreign competition ate those inferior products ALIVE.....that and changing tastes of younger folks. Remember, trucks are tough and cool. That's why they are popular.
How about the government giving out medicine based on how important my work is to society.

I remember the big whoopla about the lowering of standards of physical strength for certain jobs (firefighters in particualar). Immagine the loss of family members in a house fire because a small weak firefighter couldn't carry them out. Well dear reader, take comfort in the knowlege that your loved one died so that a person could do what they wanted to do for a living, rather than what they were qualified for.

Say at some point in the near future, no one at ALL cares about piracy. The "come on, its nothing" attitude becomes ubiquitous.

People have and will always push the limits of what is *ok* in a society. "If I can pirate a game, what's the difference if I just take it from the store. I mean, the end result is the same, I just made it a little easier for myself." Can you picture the progression of this? After several "generations" of this attitude, couldn't one reason stealing a computer too? Come on, they sell MILLIONS of these things. I just want 1, WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?
I would have to say that this seems to fit into ALL crime/social standards in society too. Think back 100 years. Could one be openly gay? Of course not, but it is now accepted (NO I AM NOT SAYING THAT IS A BAD THING). Couldn't one stand to reason, if I can be with a man, or a woman, why can't I be with 2 men or women. No, that's polygamy society says. So? Think back to arguments gays have made over the years. Wouldn't they also apply to that situation. Can't one do what they want to make themselves happy as long as it doesn't hurt anyone? What it someone wants to be involved with a child. Most modern people believe that to be VILE (rightfully so), but......who is to say you can't do what makes you happy if the other consents?
I just wanted to stress the point that permissiveness can turn into something bad.
So now you people are complaining because MS ISN'T "intergrating" things into windows? This is a step in the right direction, no?....now MS is letting you CHOOSE what you want installed.
