Or did anyone else find that they would've enjoyed Metal Gear Solid 2 more, ending included, if they had just skipped through every cutscene in the game instead of trying to make sense of the so-called plot?
It isn't just you. I thought the plot felt hokey and full of holes, compared to the game itself. Heck, I would have enjoyed the game more if it had just been a long expanded version of the first part with Snake.
Check out the videos. They're basically the same games, but with updated visuals (3D graphics, etc). It sounds somewhat lame, but I actually thought they looked pretty good.
This isn't the true script? At least the second half is somewhat different from what was actually shown. Truthfully, it's more interesting than what was actually shown (IMHO).
Thanks -- that jogs the memory cells a bit. I also found a page that describes the level and how to finish it (text without screenshots, sadly). I seem to remember it was harder than most of the other levels, comparable perhaps to the last level.
Is it just me, or does anyone else remember the secret level that was in the PC conversion of Marble Madness? As I recall, you had to make the "jump" to left near the end of the first level and wait in a certain spot until ~13 seconds were left, at which point a hole would open up and take you to a bizarre (and extremely hard) level with a river and other oddness.
Perhaps I just dreamed all of this. But I swear I played it.
Splinter Cell for the XBox will have download-able additional content via XBox Live, similar to PC game "upgrades" that are mostly content-based. Other XBox games have been announced that will do similar "upgrades".
Many EA Sports games that have on-line play also have the ability to update their rosters to be up-to-date (e.g. NBA Live).
Some console games have the ability (albeit crude in some cases) to create new content and share it. Tony Hawk 3 & 4 have a skate-park editor, TimeSplitters 2 has a level editor.
No true way to create full-out game "mods" for console games yet, but with things like the XBox having a built-in HD and connectivity, it's feasibly and even likely to happen.
For another poster who complained about lack of keyboard and mouse support, the PS2 supports USB keyboards and mice, and some games actually support them (again TimeSplitters 2 comes to mind).
For Zork purists, RTZ was only so-so. Infocom was really Activision by that point, and most of the original "implementors" were gone.
However, before you launch into making your own parser, you might want to do a little surfing. The 'interactive fiction' community is still alive and writing games in the old-style. I'd recommend taking a look at Inform to start, but then again, I'm a little biased.
Has any been able to do anything else with the network adapter besides games?
Well, Frequency Online seems like a glorified chat-room. Okay, just kidding, it's a good game, but it seems like most folks who join the servers just want to chat.
As someone's already pointed out, there's the QCast Player. And the PS2Linux kit (which now, I believe, comes with the same PS2 NA that's in stores instead of the slightly modified, but still fully functional, one). Sony's supposedly got someone working on a web-browser type thing, but web-browsing on a TV doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

If you liked the Bilestoad, you can read a interview with its creator, Mark Goodman. You used to be able to find his recent efforts to re-create the game for modern Macs here, but it appears to go to his company webpage now.
I think the most telling quote in his interview is this one:
"Pretty frequently I see the recurring threads on software piracy on various newsgroups. People really believe that there is no impact from their copying software. Well, there is an impact. I couldn't support myself by writing computer games, so "The Bilestoad" was the last game I did."
For $400 (PS2 + PS2Linux Kit), I've already been doing the things you mention for months now. As an added bonus, I didn't have to void my PS2 warantee.
Browsing the web on my TV at 640x480, however, leaves a little to be desired:-)
Here's an excerpt from a post from Henry on joystick 101, for those interested in those angry emails (some people need to chill, IMHO):
I've gotten a couple of hate letters since the show aired. This one is the real classic:
"Here's an e-mail I sent to the nice lady who is sticking her head in the lion's mouth at the Lion/Lamb project. I think you should read it. By the way, moron, get a shave. You geeky looking freak! I have a college degree. My brother got his PHd from Stanford - I'm sick of these academic freaks like you and your stupid uninformed bullshit. Call the ACLU and tell them. I want my freedom of speech enforced to the point I can call you a freak! You obviously are not a mother trying to raise teenagers you stupid freaking moron idiot. Here's the e-mail. You make me sick.
THAT COMPLETE IDIOT HENRY JENKINS FROM MIT - HE'S NOT A MOTHER OF VIOLENT TEENAGERS. These video games teach and ingrain violence. My son is supposed to be a 19 year old college student who wastes all his time playing and promoting these games. He works part time, barely, in Electronic Boutique, and brings home about $100 a week, which is ridiculous. He can justify anything. He is a video game addict like a gambling addict. It is a serious addiction and sublimates all positive learning, brings violence into our schools, and ruins people's lives. He has a very nice girlfriend who stands on her head for him, and he still chooses video games over a healthy relationship with a human being. He would rather sit around with his buddies and play stupid idiotic video games over and over, for hours all night. Phil Donahue needs to wake up. My son lives in a cesspool of video games - spends what little money he has o! n them, and is basically, a "wino" on videogames. Makes me sick to look at the wasted potential. What he could be doing. He is overweight, has very poor health habits, lives in an absolutely filthy room, and sponges off his family. In about 3 months, he is going to get the wake up call of his entire life, when I don't renew my lease and toss him out on his ***. It's a sick disease. Oh, and he is violent. He had to hospitalized for a week after trying to throw furniture in our home. He can't drive a car because he doesn't pay attention and hits other cars. I am sick to death of these stupid morons with their free speech bull. Put me on the show with you. I'll tell them. I have a B A in Music Ed. I am getting a nursing degree. I am very well spoken. You need to hit them really hard with the facts - be my pleasure. I'd like to take that stupid X Box and crack that moron from MIT over the head with it. I am sending that idiot an e-mail!."
Say, nice job on tranquility -- it's quite soothing.
Regarding the ethernet thing, I've had mine running for as long as a week without trouble, but then again, I'm probably not doing anything particularly network intensive. You might want to check the forums to see if anyone else is experiencing something similar.
Regarding the keyboard cable -- I hear folks have had success using Logitech's wireless keyboard, although their mouse may need GSConfig changes to work properly. Again, the forums have more details on this.
We've already said what we were going to say regarding Doom III, but seeing it garner the accolades it has just makes me want to say it again louder. There's no game there. There's nothing to comment on from a play perspective, save a few minutes of visual and auditory presentation - like a Future Crew demo writ large. I'm not saying it's going to suck or rule. Maybe id will be the ones to make a real game with their technology again. What I'm saying is that there's nothing to actually know about it. Promising? Okay, you can have "promising." Here you go. Best of show? Not on my watch. What the hell show did you go to?

As for the Sega series...I'll be happy when they get to the Sonic games and "Altered Beast."
Random note: Sega is working on a new Altered Beast title, but it's not really a remake...more like a new 3D beat-em-up.

sounds like a Drahken rip-off, even in name. Weird.
Already done. Actually, there's probably more recent info on this via E3 as well. Granted this is more of an "action" game than a fighter...

Just somehow bring the Borg into an episode. That'll sell it. Oh wait, they're already doing that....

I like how they say:

Based on the parent post, my advice to the story originator would be, "There's no fate but what we make for ourselves".
Many companies, including 3D Studio Max
3D Studio MAX is a product, not a company. Discreet is the name of the company currently making MAX, a subsidiary of Autodesk
will be working on creating tiny little rubber bands to wrap the tiny cards in.
