  1. Re:Many regular people own MSFT on Microsoft Shareholders Unhappy After Annual Meeting · · Score: -1, Flamebait

Considering your signature, I thought you'd get this already, but Microsoft doesn't have to cooperate with the rest of the world on standards since their standard is the dominant one in the industry by MILES. While it would be nice if they supported ODF for the three people in the world who actually switch between a MS Office-equipped machine with no option to install Libre or OpenOffice to one that does have L/OO, they don't have to do it to remain profitable.

It's funny you mention what MS lacks here and not L/OO. Microsoft's DOC format has been around for roughly forever and the free suites STILL have trouble saving them properly? Also, it's actually a relatively common sentiment (you see it usually posted several times in a comparison thread) on /. that Libre and OpenOffice both are actually more convoluted and harder to use to do simple things that are trivial in MSOffice.

Supporting free software doesn't mean you have to be an idiot about it and completely ignore the fact that MS' office suite is a good and powerful piece of software. Yes, it's a bit on the expensive side (my university doesn't even give me a big discount on it. Jerks.) but it's the industry standard for a reason.

This is Slashdot, though, so take heart: You'll be modded insightful and I'll be modded troll and everybody will think your sig is hilarious.

I was, but it also were Shatner's actual feelings on the subject as well. He felt, at the time the show was canceled, that the people nerding out over it at conventions were a bit obsessive and creepy. I guess to him, the entire thing looked like a relationship that ended and the ex was still stalking him. If I had that mindset, I'd find it a bit creepy too.

You know when you post like that you just sound like an idiot rather than making any real point, right? You're completely undermining whatever message you're trying to send by appearing so retarded. It's the same principle as people who use 'M$' or '$ony' or 'Nobama.' Even if you have a valid point to make about the deficiency of a particular person, platform or company, you IMMEDIATELY undermine that criticism by sounding like a fucking five year old trying to think up the meanest insults he can without getting scolded by his teacher or parent.

Here's how your post was probably intended to sound:

"Sounds like the submitter is uninformed. Android plays most media formats fine and even those that don't work can generally be viewed by a third party player such as Mobo or Rock for free from the market. It's a lot more flexible that way than an iOS device which generally requires a purchased piece of software because of Apple's store policies."

    Here's how it actually sounds:

    "Derp."
