But i guess if the disc starts spinning at +INF rpms to rip at >24x and makes the entire device shake like a washing machine during tumble dry it would freak buyers...so it's a nice tradeoff.

The delay in booting an OS is not caused from the data transfer of HDs. Look at linux booting and you will understand. There are lots of devices that need configuration and that takes time, for reasons unknown to me tho.
Really, why does configuring non-mechanical devices so long? Why does the bios check take so awfuly long? Shouldn't a mobo that has a bus running at 133MHz actualy be up in milliseconds?
Both things are ICs. Chips that do some work. Mobos these days have an AC97 chip on board (it's just a mixer and ADC/DAC. It's not that bad tho. 18bits...) What if it was an SB audigy 2 on board? Or
Doesn't matter where it is located.
It DOES matter tho, if the DAC/ADC circuits are isolated.
so onboard DSP processing with external (or at least very well isolated DAC/ADC) is the best deal.
However, do note some people like to listen to their computer working... (you can hear all those funny noises in the electrical circuits due to resonance. It's very interesting.)
If you just want mindless destruction, try Serious Sam. Guaranteed, you'll love it. Just so you know, you get to kill more enemies than doom...more by an order of magnitude!
On a slightly unrelated and very selfish note...i have XP on my notebook (came with it, runs excellent. Packard Bell igo 2640, i think nec makes it) and i want to try a unixoid OS on it. Doesn't have to have a graphical shell. Any recommendations? I need to see just how long i can get the battery to last...I've heard (rumors) that linux distros aren't *that* laptop friendly.
Writting code with goddamn runtime checks for boundary cheks is no big feat. And don't say that it is a performance penalty, because this isn't about running faster/slower. This is about runnin/CRASHING.
RPN-less calculators with rubber keys and flimsy construction without a BIG ENTER key...devices that have drivers only for windows98, killing off very succesful (cpu, but not only) designs...what the hell?
instead of abandoning IE, which is a decent web browser, be careful (not paranoid, but like anyone who's been on/. for more than...5 minutes won't click on a goatse.cx link) about where you actually browse.
That's not fast... that's... 74mins/5mis ~ 14x...
If it ripped in 2 minutes, that would be fast.
Now it's just "not slow".
But i guess if the disc starts spinning at +INF rpms to rip at >24x and makes the entire device shake like a washing machine during tumble dry it would freak buyers...so it's a nice tradeoff.
The programs we sell right now are not any good!
So, as soon as the next version comes out, buy it! We will have everything fixed, honest!
Battery time will be measured in usec.
What if they hire "High-Speed" Lawyers?

Imagine a Beowulf cluster of lawyers!

I need help reverse engineering "si3" files.
.mid to the cellphone, first time you play it, it gets converted to .si3
It's the format used on siemens cellphones to play midi (subtypes 0,1)! Siemens says it is closed...

What's MGh?
Me-Gaga-hertz?
What about that? Will we be finaly able to switch kernels without a reboot?
:D
I could google for it, but hearing peoples' comments about these things is much more interesting...
Isn't it funny that there is still no emulator for the gamecube? I mean, it must be the only console without an emulator (and ps2?)...
:DD
writting emulators has become increasingly difficult over the years.
Gameboy emulators are a breeze (mostly due to the rather generic hardware). NES/SNES more difficult. N64 is very challenging.
Has anyone heard of even plans for a GC emulator?
I'm itching to play Metroid:Prime @1024x768
Here it is.
;)))
It's not the best but it is something
but we'd prefer broadband in our home for less than a kidney/month and have it *now* instead of 14Mb in our cellphones in 3 years.
How come greece sucks so much that we're the only goddamn country in europe that still hasn't got dialup.
i pay fucking E100/month for sucky dialup.
you really think this 3g shit is going to make us happy?
get lost.
You're unlucky... if we lived in the same country we would throw some Descent 3 matches...but i don't think you live in greece :/

hp allowed distribution of ROMs, every revision, some time ago. go read before you post, please.

What if AOL decides to sue that guy who made a fortune thru spamming?
I'd pay to see that...

Carly, you fscked it up.
She MIGHT have found a way...
I'm surprised she's Greek AND a girl. wow. Go Foteinh.
oh. that's good to know.
thanks.

PIC stands for Programmable Interrupt Controller.
It really is a very minimal CPU.
