Welp, I won't spend much time defending our design that we're about to get rid of, but we do have some very good designs from users. I mean, with 450+, there have to be a few that look good. Take a look at this page for some of the better ones. Really, hundreds of sites use designs from OSWD, it's not that bad.
Well, usually I don't reply to AC's, but that's almost good point. That design has been around since OSWD was started over a year ago. We were planning to release the new design as part of the expo. It kinda fell through because the designer doesn't want help on it, but it's rumored to be done and just needs to put in to the code. Also, we're not trying to sell anything, most of the designs are posted by our users for guests to download for free (The goal of the project!). We don't want to say to our users "Your design sucks", even if it does, so we put in a rating system. You can hide the lesser quality designs with a click of a mouse.
Oh wait, duh, I think we're done. Luckily someone remembered to take pictures, I don't think any of them feature our booth, but I could be wrong. Anyway: Pictures.
I couldn't make it to LWCE (still waiting for one in Seattle), but the rest of the Open Source Web Design crew is out there. I don't know what exactly we're showing off, except our really cool site. I hear we're across from an IBM booth and on a corner, somewhere in the.org pavillion. And the booth number is less than 10... like.. 4. We have some pictures of the setting up on Skatters homepage. Anyway, check it out!
Is space (a) like a big hole or (b) more like a big black curtain with holes poked in it?
A big hole, I looked it up in the dictionary, or an encyclopedia or somethin'. 'Space', it says, 'is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly hugely mindbogglingly big it is. I mean you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space. Listen..' and so on.
Amen to that. I always hear comments in irc and things about Linux users being smarter (because it takes research to use, right?). I do a quick check to see who is root@host to prove them wrong. It totally depends on the user, not the OS.
It's not so much that someone might walk up to a sign and say "Wow, the new Windows is out. Oh wait, that's Lindows." What companies are worried about is that people will think Lindows is somehow associated with Windows. And because the products are similar, that mistake would be easy to made. It's like "Slashcode" and "PHP Slash". Or the OpenSSH deal. People were going to the original and were asking for support. But Slashdot says "Hey stupid, it's PHP Slash, not Slashcode, oh wait, that can be confusing."
Here's a shortened list of programs and authors they used as examples to show that the windows trademark is somehow not being inforced.
WinZip WinZip Computing Inc.
WinAmp Nullsoft
Windows Backup Wizard RisingResearch.com
Windows Coloring Book Kinderware Inc.
Windows Commander Christian Ghisler
Windows Security Officer SSS Laboratories
Now out of these, which ones are operating systems that are supposed to mimick windows functionality? I think it's more possible to confuse something that is supposed to be windows, but not something that just runs on windows. So I don't see how doing this list going to help.

Heck, I'll pay $10 if you'll do an imitation of Marinia Sirtis. Make it $15 if you throw in a passable William "F'ing" Shatner.
Wait, I think your job search ends here! I like this idea. I'd pay $20 if you do a good impression of my chemistry teacher. I'll give you $30 if you do.. my ex girlfriend. But I don't think you should do a flat rate thing. You could auction it off on your site. If someone offered to pay $21 for their chemistry teacher, I would do $21.50, maybe. Think about it.
Well they have cheap computers, and problably has crappy hardware. I have crappy hardware and none of the drivers are on any linux system, only windows/mac. I needed something more mainstream like a SB card. So I'd have to pay some bucks for my 5.1 speakers to use Linux as my desktop. So even though it's free, it's worthless for my desktop.
Funny how in the story there are so many versions of Windows. Damnit, they make a new version and it still isn't better. Why do they call it new version? Why do people buy them?
They're going to give each censor only 5 censor points so they can't affect the media too much.

They're going to start having to ask questions like "Are you not not a terrorist?", "Uhhhh, no?"
It's not the Seattle earthquake, it's the Olympia Earthquake:) They were looking for the one broken window in Seattle when Olympia had real damage. Bleh, get it right =P
I'm turning 18 in May, and I have worked at my company part time (full time when I'm out of school) for the past 2 years. Of course all I had on my "resume" when I got the job was 2 years of playing around with computers with my friends and being a "nice guy". I got hired as a web designer, but when our sys admin was about to leave, I was trained at his job and do mostly that now. So when I turn 20 that's about 5 years of real world(tm) experience, so it isn't too unreasonable.
Here are the stats for my site (Open Source Web Design). We push toward open source, but here are our webalizer stats, keep in mind they group the browsers:
Well it's Katz, I don't read the article, and after the little I did read, trashing it is doing it a favor. Once he said it was funny, I know that I wasn't missing out on anything. "Not Another Teen Movie" is just another Scary Movie. You're talkin to the guy who liked Tomb Raider. I know a pervert wannabe hacker who makes his own Angelina Jolie porn, and he didn't like Tomb Raider.
Yeah, I got my 4 gigquad gateway, connected to the IRS ( ip address 862.154.677.42 ) and changed my social security number using the built in GUI interface. A security guy was tracing me and almost caught me before I transfered all 5 bogomegs of data from the computer I just haX0red. Really. But at least they use IP addresses, instead of "Connecting to: irs.gov".
I ran Debian because my friend who has his CS degree was introducing me to Linux and his distro of choice was Debian. He helped me get it installed, but couldn't get the sound card working. And 90% of what I do, I do while listening to music. So that partition was toast. Especially after the kernel upgrade and ALSA was pissing me off. Also, the student wasn't trying to untar mozilla. He had downloaded the flash plugin that came in tar format. And I believe all you do is untar it in one of the mozilla directories. But he was clueless. And thank's for the tip, I'll give that a shot.
