Instead of translating words, how about sentences?
Now THIS sounds like an idea.
Translate every sentence that is used, into every known language.
Yes, the DB would be HUGE, but its distributed. And I don't think the number would be that large (relatively speaking). Well, maybe just common sentences.
Eventually the web will be so filled with bad grammar that the next generation will have no idea how to string a simple sentence together.
That day is here.
Ever "listen in" on an IRC or chat? The shortcuts and grammar mangling are beyond belief. The excuse is that it is faster to type in, but if you are not in the know, then it looks like gibberish (Hey, ANOTHER language for the project!).
Laugh if you like, but there are people PAID to re-assemble shredded documents.
They test the effectiveness of paper shredders.
The ones you get in office supply stores suck. Only 1/4 inch wide cuts. The real shredders cut about 1/2 millimeter, and cross shred 4 millimeters. You end up with big dust....
So if they're pushing a new FS while people are not even using the features of the "antiquated" one, they'll have a difficult time selling it.
Well yes, except that they do not have to "sell it". It becomes the next pre-installed OS, and that's it. Wait a few months and it WILL be the new standard.
Those pre-install agreements with h/w manufactures are the way that MS pushes new OS s/w (hell all new s/w where they want to own the market, think MS Office a few years ago).
Think about it. If computers came without an OS, and the consumer had to load (and choose!) the OS themselves, would MS own the desktop?
If it is a local LAN (building / room) running on fibre (TEMPEST), in secured conduits, then it can be on a network. Add in that ALL drives are removable and are locked in safes everynight (includes server drives), and you can get pretty secure.
this machine isn't really practical for everyday use
Well now it depends doesn't it? Do you REALLY need to be able to surf the net from the comfort of your workstation? Or can you get up, move over five feet, and surf from that machine.
Or can you do 95% of your work (on that really secret project) on your own Internet-disconnected machine?
And it is a truism that most security breaches are done by employees (far a variety of reasons (excuses?)).
In a word, poverty has little to do with location and much more with history.
So Kuwait and Suadia Arabia are historical?
Rough quote from a Jewish Rabbi: "I am not that impressed with Moses. If he had turned East instead of West, we would have the oil, and they would have the sand".
I believe there have been some recent PCR-based surveys for DNA present in sea water that suggest that a whole bunch of microbes in perfectly accessible habitats have so far managed to slip under our taxonomic radar.

Remember, Beta was the better format, VHS won because of better marketing.
Actually VHS won because Sony had prohibitive licencing on Beta.
Then IBM did the same mistake with MCA and EISA won out.
has no external network connections

As opposed to posting as an AC?
what's the friggin point of posting this to slashdot NOW?
You should ask......
In a word, poverty has little to do with location and much more with history.
So Kuwait and Suadia Arabia are historical?
Rough quote from a Jewish Rabbi: "I am not that impressed with Moses. If he had turned East instead of West, we would have the oil, and they would have the sand".
...aren't there too many laws already
There can never be enough laws.
Just ask any lawyer......

Um, would not that be SONAR?
Don't forget religion. Don't believe me? Go to any small town, and there sits a church.
Do this in Europe, and it might be a BIG church.
weather or not
and
weather the product
should both be
whether.
Of course you could also use climate, as in climate or not.

And you wouldn't have to use crap like JCL
Um, its REXX now....
BC = beowulf cluster
BC1: Hey let's do Web adds
BC2: I know, we could put up banners
BC3: Wait we could pop the adds up
BC4: Even better we could run Flash
Yeah right, like we need these guys talking to each other....
Perhaps this ruling means that people can now express their opinions in English too.
But only if they use a smaller font.
Yes, and there was nothing like taking a blank set of cards, walking into some programmer's office and "tripping".
All those PHB's will be drooling over this so they can have bragging rights.
Just so Word can idle more......
If I'm groking this correctly
It is not possible to grok something incorrectly.
Either you grok it, or you do not. If you do, then it cannot be incorrect.
We should also ban dihydrogen oxide. It corrosive and can cause accidents in solid form.
I'll have you know that I am immune. In fact I wallow in it every morning!
He did not USE the transperant aluminum.
He used 4" (3"?) plexiglass. The deal was he would give the manufacturer the formula in exchange for the plexiglass.
to Be or not to Be
I guess it was "not to Be".....
