Is the FAA keeping us from having flying cars in the same way the oil companies have been keeping us from our 1000 mpg alternative fuel cars? Flying cars would be the best solution to this problem, short of a working airline system.
And we all know what the fate of the Death Star was! They outsourced the power used to defend it to the nearby moon of Endor and entrusted it with its least capable troops. To its credit, it did manage to take out a few large starships on its way out.
I'm thinking about what we do with all that material when the bridge has outlived its usefulness. Concrete and steel are easy to recycle. What do you do with thousands of tons of plastic?
Options:
Donate it to a third-world country. We no longer need our bridge, so we are donating it to Zwataharia, who has many rivers of which people must wade through should they wish to cross.
Make a new park out of it. Welcome to the Golden Gate Bridge State Park. The Golden Gate State Bridge was bought by Ohio in 2085—airlifted here by a team of helicopters to the location you see today. . ..
Do what they've always done with bridges that they don't feel like destroying. Bobby, I'm sure glad they didn't just destroy this entire bridge, the fish sure are biting out here today!
The problem is that somebody made a story out of it. The Register decided to post a story on it as well.
Oddly, this article doesn't point out that it's a regular occurrence with myspace. I don't understand how a website that is so poorly constructed and easily crippled can run.
I'm not sure if it is related, but they did just have the National Archives's basement flood very badly with the large amount of rain the end of last month. It's possible things were hastily relocated. Due to the massive volume of missing tapes, I'd venture to guess they'll either start showing up somewhere, or they'll realize they were moved somewhere else without it being recorded.
As far as the Start menu goes, out of all the employees within the company I work for maybe one in thirty actually use it. A Mac start menu would do you no good.
That means the terrorists will get ahold of it, track some meteors, and alter their course so they crash into a landmass of their choice! Open source is bad!
And when they pull it out, they'll be confused what it is. All they'll know it as is that "save" icon in Windows.
Tragically, there will be no way to use it without learning to build a floppy drive from scratch that somehow can connect to their data matrix, but even the thought of an "external storage device" will elude them.
Sanity: When it feels like you're having deja vu and you're questioning yourself if you've seen the story before: have you gone crazy? I swear I've seen that one before! Where is it? *Older Stories* Ugh, where is that story? I know you're here somewhere! How long ago would that have been posted? Maybe it was the first story the last time I checked . . . etc.
I was looking at this too. If you read down the description on the press release it says "Digital wire interface allows for third-party developments" and they do indeed look like some form of RJXX, which makes me quite curious as to just what "third party developments" might include.
While you wait, why don't you RTFA again for the first time?
And here I thought I had already gone through today's news and hit that point where I've already read up to. I guess I can't count on that any more, can I?
Or you could point out that it shows you support Slashdot and the EFF so much that you're willing to put 2 grand down as evidence.
I hate going through an endless string of blogs only to find a dead-end. From the horse's mouth:

. . . not yet fully operational.

Should have been from the "can-you-see-me-now dept"
Actually they just scanned the book in and put it in a pdf onto DVD.

Now, instead of "Who would pirate Windows Vista" it has become "Who would pay for Windows Vista Basic?"
"Venus Probe Set to Reach Target"
And I'm sure when it gets there, it will shop to its heart's content.

This just in: It's not even April Fools Day yet.
Seriously, they couldn't wait a few hours? Now I get to go to bed with nightmares of pink slashdot pages.
What do you expect from a company that can't figure out how else to make money besides raising dialup costs?
And that 70% water is 30% sharks.
What is the record, anyway?

I just finished reading a short story by Arthur C Clarke about this titled The Shining Ones written back in 1962. He had them testing it out in 1974.
Should have been from the "It's-so-unbelievable-we-had-to-post-it-again dept."
It's a shame we just slashdotted her.
