Just like my current Kindle Fire I will likely be flashing a custom ROM onto it as soon as there is one available. I strongly suspect there will be at least a couple of devs at XDA that will likely strip out whatever code Amazon is using to server the ads when they cook up their ROMS.
I can't get dsl where I am without subbing to a landline as well. A cable modem isn't really an option either since we have Directv and wouldn't qualify for any bundling deals from the cable company. If I could do dry line dsl I would in an instant, but I get to pay an extra $13/mo for my internet access instead.
Astraweb is heading for 365 as well. And there is another company called Highwinds that provides service via tons of resellers (usenetserver, newsdemon off the top of my head) and they are going for 400. But basically everyone will be in the same ballpark. Just that Giganews is almost twice as expensive as other places for the same service.
No, you will get assigned a new number because it's a new account. I think you need to wait 60 or 90 days before a number gets freed in the system and you can select it if available.
Here's a dumb question though...on the features page listed above the dev only talks about 64 and 128 bit WEP. For years everyone has said, "Don't use WEP!" Do anyone feel unsafe using this program on their Windows Mobile phone because it doesn't support WPA?
The posted cache from Google shows that the offending post was made back in 2005! It obviously isn't that important to anyone that might care about it or you think that they might have someone crawling the web just a bit better to try and find things like this.
I know that even my lowly utorrent client has a time of day setting in the prefs somewhere. I dont personally use it but I know its there, I just set everything to d/l at night anyway since I might need the bandwidth for Vonage or Skype instead when Im awake.
Seems like/. would have wanted to do more stress stesting than just one day over a holiday weekend here in the states. Hope that the new cluster can stand up once next Tuesday hits!
Also, thanks for the relocation as well. My page loads are much faster than from the old location in Santa Clara.
The biggest thing holding me to Directv and Tivo is the built in dual tuners. I have not found any pci sized sat decoders that will allow me to ditch the Tivo. Until I do all of these other software solutions won't work for me.
The only real tech company in Ashland is ProjectA , the cost of housing is out of control as a lot of Californians have moved there and jacked up the prices (over 400k last I heard). You are still going to have to commute at least a short distance unless you make huge jack.
Actually there are only three Spaceway sats planned for right now. Spaceway 1 and 2 will be launched next year with the third being built as a replacement stored on the ground until they need it.
They don't run half of the DNS system, in fact is less way less than half. This quote is directly from a Verisign webpage, "VeriSign also operates two of the 13 authoritative root servers that identify the complete directory of the DNS or all of the IP addresses for all registered Top Level Domains (TLDs)." at http://www.verisign.com/tl/nds.html?sl=060201.
So they only run 2 of the 13 root servers. Seems like a lot less of a load than you believe it is.
If you're smart you don't ever attach the dish to any part of the building or railing. You install the dish in a 5 gallon bucket with a pole mounted in a pool of Quikrete. I installed mine this way and the parts cost me less than $20 at Lowe's. This way the landlord can't ever say anything about your install because it's in your patio or porch which is completely under your exclusive use.
Does anyone else see the possibility of getting a ton of calls from telemarketers just before the cutoff date? I'm thinking of just unplugging my phone during the month of September just to be safe.

We have the honor(?) of having the largest concentration of CC owned and operated stations in the country. They own the maximum 8 that they are allowed and control the programming and ad sales for 6 more based out of Mexico. I still can't believe I have to explain to people why I signed up with XM Radio and that they should as well.
If I'm a nOOb looking to build my own box for the first time, where would be a good place or places to start looking? It's time to replace my P2 with something newer.
You must be kidding. You can't even get decent wireline broadband for $30/month. I don't want them to price it at $80/mo like it was before but I do want the new owners to make a profit so we don't go through this all over again.

No, your support is throught WorldCom. Your service just like mine is through Ricochet/Metricom. If the bankruptcy goes on and they run out of cash or don't find a buyer then we both have really neat paperweights.
Bzzzt, the reason their doing it, and they say so right on the website, is to further comply with the court order. And so they can try and save their asses to launch the pay service. Which of course will be a huge failure.
UTV and TiVo are two completely separate services. Just go to Best Buy or Circuit City and see the differences in the inferfaces. ONe of the biggest being that UTV only works with DirecTV, while TiVo can work with either coax or a sat dish setup.

$11/mo? You must be using Astraweb as well. Good choice.

Uh, no. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=138&pID=11413
"Garmin Mobile XT puts pre-loaded maps" on to a micro SD card that you buy and comes with the program and maps loaded on to it.

No, Giganews is currently in the process of spooling up to one year. Take a look at the counter on their homepage, right now its at 306, not 365.

SBC doesnt own Bell Atlantic. BA got together with Nynex a few years ago, and then borged GTE last year to form Verizon.
