    Is sending a missle running GPL'ed software considered "distribution?" Could the victim of a missle attack request the source code?

    (Then again, if you're already war, going to court over a licensing agreement might not matter too much.)

    I love Mozilla, and the spam filter is great, but that doesn't really solve the problem. A lot of e-mail servers are still getting clogged with spam and the bouncebacks, flames, and problems that result.

    I don't know about the exact text per se, but the Microsoft speaker today at the Open Source in eGovernment conference in Washington DC did refer to the ASP license, that it was less than one page, and did allow user's more freedom with the code, specifically the ability to use the ASP licensed code in their own projects.

    Cute. Maybe you should check out some of the computer forensic tools that the US Air Force has published:
    • md5deep - Like GNU md5sum, but can work recursively, do matching, estimate remaining time, etc.
    • foremost - Recover files based on their headers and footers

    Now, if they could could just get rid of whitehouse.com, I'd have a lot more respect for the American government!

    The US Government can't own or enforce a copyright or trademark, so they can't, by law, go after whitehouse.com. That being said, however, I'm sure the good folks at White House Apple Juice have other ideas!

    There's a second trailer for the Superbowl. After the game it will be posted to the official web site. (Right now it's just a little movie saying the real trailer isn't available until January 26th.)

    For the same reason why there is a bar code on every product you buy at the grocery store. So the clerk/salesman doesn't have to type in every value they see (and possibly get the digits wrong).

    The tire makers are just trying to comply with the law! The TREAD (Transportation, Recall, Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation) Act requires tire makers to track all of their tires in case they need to recall them. Blame Congress, not the tire makers.

    Oh, and to respond to the editors comment about how they should make tired that track tire pressure instead, they already do! (Is it okay for me to tell the editor to RTFA?

    Nuclear weapons require a separate, expensive, delivery mechanism. Software attacks can be accomplished from the comfort of the living room couch (or government office) by anybody with a cheap PC and some skillz.

    It's no secret, at least it shouldn't be, that Micro$oft is making money selling your hotmail address (yet then they spam you with advertisements for their spam-blocking software)...

    Instead of just experimenting by setting up a Hotmail account, has anybody ever tried the other way around? That is, pose as an advertiser and approach Hotmail about e-mailing their users?
