    Re your signature:

Don't you think it's a little limited to suggest that the only time we can engage in a critical discussion of the administration is during an election? Not only that, but I feel that elections are the most inconsequential of the ways that I can participate in our democratic institutions. How much weight does one vote have? You should re-read Anthony Downs.

The protest warriors are a group of assholes who got in the middle of the march with huge pro-war signs. I'm not sure what possible good they could have gotten out of it besides getting attention from their signs being ripped up. It was a confrontational and antagonistic approach. It's not like they were visible in the middle of a throng of 400,000 -- they should have joined the other counter protestors on the other side of the barricade, who actually did get mainstream media coverage. I haven't heard any mainstream media who care about the so-called protest warriors.

I personally object to software I develop being used for military applications. Luckily most of the F/OSS software I've created wouldn't be useful for them, but how ironic for the many people that create F/OSS because of humanitarian goals, to see it mis-appropriated for death and destruction. Not to mention how hard it is to stomach giving another free resource to the mis-named Defense Department when they already drain funding from social services, healthcare and education. (and yes, i realize that other people can still use Linux -- I just doubt that the DOD license purchasing budget will be reduced)

In theory at least, citations allow you to track down a reference and find out where an error occured, if there turns out to later be a mistake. They also allow you to do the reverse -- if you see that an error-riddle reference is cited, then you can accordingly weight the reliablity of the referring work.

That's an idiotic thing to say. China is very "safe" to criticize, as is Iran. It's a majority position that the Chinese government has serious human rights problems. The same goes for Iran, although it is criticized in the US to a lesser extent. Maybe they aren't criticizing those countries because...they can have more impact by criticizing a nation that they are part of? Their leaders actually have to listen to them? And learn to spell.
