Don't you think it's a little limited to suggest that the only time we can engage in a critical discussion of the administration is during an election? Not only that, but I feel that elections are the most inconsequential of the ways that I can participate in our democratic institutions. How much weight does one vote have? You should re-read Anthony Downs.
It's actually a legal term of art. Wikipedia has a good definition. The main point being, it has a specific meaning and is not as wishy-washy as you might think.
I know that there's a tradeoff involved, and arguably the fact that the US Military can use the opensource code is worth it if a hundred NGOs can also use it . I'm just pointing out the ethical question, not saying that it's a solved one.
The protest warriors are a group of assholes who got in the middle of the march with huge pro-war signs. I'm not sure what possible good they could have gotten out of it besides getting attention from their signs being ripped up. It was a confrontational and antagonistic approach. It's not like they were visible in the middle of a throng of 400,000 -- they should have joined the other counter protestors on the other side of the barricade, who actually did get mainstream media coverage. I haven't heard any mainstream media who care about the so-called protest warriors.
I personally object to software I develop being used for military applications. Luckily most of the F/OSS software I've created wouldn't be useful for them, but how ironic for the many people that create F/OSS because of humanitarian goals, to see it mis-appropriated for death and destruction.
Not to mention how hard it is to stomach giving another free resource to the mis-named Defense Department when they already drain funding from social services, healthcare and education. (and yes, i realize that other people can still use Linux -- I just doubt that the DOD license purchasing budget will be reduced)
In theory at least, citations allow you to track down a reference and find out where an error occured, if there turns out to later be a mistake. They also allow you to do the reverse -- if you see that an error-riddle reference is cited, then you can accordingly weight the reliablity of the referring work.
Gimp actually has a fairly closed development structure, and I don't think it would be accurate to say that they're trying to steal Photoshop's userbase. They seem to have their own goals and interests, and seem to be pretty stubborn about them (especially interface decisions).
That's an idiotic thing to say. China is very "safe" to criticize, as is Iran. It's a majority position that the Chinese government has serious human rights problems. The same goes for Iran, although it is criticized in the US to a lesser extent.
Maybe they aren't criticizing those countries because...they can have more impact by criticizing a nation that they are part of? Their leaders actually have to listen to them?
And learn to spell.
umm...but that does not mean that all african american artists play R&B or Rap (hip hop).
You talk about a jazz musician in the same post, another style of music that comes from african-american culture. So there's one. But there are just as many black artists playing in all the other genres of music: singer/songwriters from a folksy tradition, pop, classical music, etc. maybe even some playing punk, who knows.
All text mode non-command interfaces look pretty much alike. Think about it; how much room do you have to play around with when you have only 255 characters in a fixed font, and only 80x25 places to put them?
Notice anything about the length of that username? Yeah, it's 8 characters long. An old limit on username lengths, to be sure, but understandable in 1995...in other words, it is not a typo.
Read the article -- the point is that these thin bags are more difficult to recycle. They are trying to favor plastic bags that can be recycled, not eliminating bags altogether.

Long time passing,
Where have all the pixels gone,
long time ago.
Where have all the pixels gone,
They've gone to Apple, every one,
When will we ever learn,
When will we ever learn.

These folks shouldn't have caved in so quickly.
Idiot.

I think you mean voila.
what the heck kind of comparison can you make between a changelog and a bug fix list? Not every change in the linux kernel is a bug fix.

yay for SLOPS.
april fools is not a license to be a retard.

I think you meant voila, not viola. A viola is a musical instrument.

Yeah...because the statute of limitations on graffiti must extend for at least what, 20 years?

And you have succeeded in proving that...you are the geekiest geek. Congratulations. Not sure what prize comes with that.

voila. Jeez, your spelling is even more creative than the idiotic viola.

Not from any special knowledge of French though. Perhaps I will change it back. thanks.
Thank you, thank you for not saying viola!
