I'd like to see MS just make software. Strong, reliable OS's and apps' that run well on all PC's and function well with legacy apps.
OK, now stop your chortling.
Instead, MS focuses on trying to win at everything, and they usually start out WAY behind. The two most glaring examples that come to mind are IE (back when Netscape had already established itself as THE leader) and Zune, when the IPod had already totally OWNED the portable music player market. I'm sure there are others, but that's what comes to mind ATM.
I'd like to see MS stop trying to win EVERY race, and just focus on the one's it know's already.
This makes sense....

Fiscal conservatism, yes. Small government, yes. And also I believe in a strong national defense and lower taxes (which I believe leads to increased private spending/investment/job creation). Has Bush lived up....man...I don't know...probably not. History will have to judge.
Why choose Republican? Well, the core beliefs I've listed above more closely correspond to that party. There might be a 3rd party out there that better identifies with me (many aspects of the Libertarian's appeal to me, but they're too far removed from reality to REALLY work). But, under our badly flawed 2 party system, we end up having to choose one or the other. I voted for Clinton in 92, and voted against Dole in 96. By 2000, I was married w. kids, and like many people, found my political feelings had shifted to a more conservative place. So, in 2000 a vote against Dole (Nader was not an option I would have considered), and in 2004, a vote against Kerry. I haven't voted FOR a President since 92, I've almost always voted against the other guy. It's a sad state of affairs.
I'm all for allowing 3rd party candidates into the fray and giving them equal footing with the Democrats and the GOP. However, those two parties are such a HUGE juggernaut to overcome, that the chances of an independent or 3rd party candidate actually having a shot are almost nil.
Could go on and on...but I've got work to do...millions on welfare are depending on me!;P
For the record, I'm conservative, I voted Republican in 2000 and 2004. Yes, it's all my fault, let's move on.
I'm against the idea of abortion but think it should be legal. I don't like flag burning, but I think an amendment against it is a silly idea. I don't care about gay marraige, it shouldn't be banned, but before we allow it, we need to take a careful look at all the societal and economic consequences.
All that said, I am also decidedly NON religious and think that Creationism and Intelligent Design are fairy tales for children. PLEASE do not color me and all the other conservative red stater's in with the religious right. They're not connecting with reality, and I feel bad for those people who continue to blindly follow the paths of organized religion (which has done OH SOOOO much good for the world over the last several years). <sp<sp>We don't ALL live in Je$u$land (perhaps geographically, but not mentally), and some of us choose to follow science, watch the Discovery Channel instead of Pat Robert$on, and sleep in on $unday morning rather than gathering to worship at the altar of Chri$t.
Thus endeth my rant. Thanks for listening. Go Darwin.
Actually, you can use Tivo to snag a whole lot of educational programming that they miss when they are in school. Discovery, Science Channel, even public television, have a lot of good kid centric shows on between 8A-12P (central) that Tivo can snag and they can watch as wanted/needed. Sesame Street is still good too.

Got a real easy solution for those Muslims who find the show offensive.
Don't watch it.
Simple as that. Don't declare a Jihad, don't call anyone an infidel, just turn off the TV and go do something else. So God (the Christian one) damned tired of Muslim's being offended by this and by that. Get thicker skin, like the rest of us, and stop yer belly achin'. Same goes for you fundamentalist Christians too./rant off
2x6 studs don't always make sense (at least in terms of thermal insulation). We looked into it when we built our house, and determined the extra cost did not justify the energy savings. You need to determine the degree days per year, and figure out the right answer for you. Degree day info is found here: http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/analysis_mon itoring/cdus/degree_days/ and a google search ought to help you find the rest.
I suspect he was asking about GPS hardware working overseas (from the US perspective here) becauce of cell phone issues. Most cell phones used here in the states will not work in foreign countries. I suspect he wanted to insure that the GPS he bought here in the states would not suffer the same problem.
Good news is, that the GPS signal received is the same everywhere, so no matter if you buy your unit in Butte, Montana or Dar es Salaam, it will work no matter where you carry it. Provided it has power, but that's a different thread.
I like them. No iron, sort of comfy for work, at least as comfy as the corporate costume can be. But...it confirms what I have suspected all along....the end of the world will begin in my pants!!!!
90210 meets Star Trek. Last thing the world needs is an angst ridden teenage Bones McCoy hanging out at the intergalactic Peach Pit trying to sort out his acne and possibly latent homosexuality.
Many places are adopting policies that prevent you from contracting for more than a year. Reason being, if you work there 12+ months, it can be construed that you are an employee then by default, and should get benefits. Simple solution for employer is to term. you at 12 months. So, unless you have been made full time by the 12 month date, watch your back.
Amen on that credit card advice!!! Trust me, if you can't eat it, f*ck it, or drive it, you don't NEED it. There's the key....before you spend use credit to acquire a THING...ask yourself REAL hard if you NEED it, or WANT it. You'll likely be moving a lot in the next few years, the less stuff, the better. Wait til your out of school, more or less debt free, then spend the fruits of your labor on good stuff, not middle of the road crap that looks good and performs mediocre. Trust me....lesson that was personally HARD earned.
As the world becomes more and more aware of what spam really is (crap), it's influence grows less and less. Most people are already decided on an election, and Jesus H Tap Dancing Christ, I hope those who are stupid enough to vote based on "Bush/Kerry sent me spam, so to hell with them!!!" just don't vote.
So, in conclusion, I think most people who receive email from G30rg3 Bu$h realize that the Republican party likely did not send that message, and mail from J0hn |3rrY is probably equally suspect.
This is all Janet Jackson's fault. Thanks Miss Jackson, Janet cuz you not nasty, for ruining the show for all of us with the gratuitous display of your breast that no one really wanted to see in the first place. You, madam, touched off this mess, and it was so necessary. You provided fuel to the Christian right's fire, and for that, I'll....well.....I guess I'll never listen to Rhythm Nation again, so TAKE THAT you hussy!!!
No, sometimes the customer is a friggin' moron who refuses to see the light of day because someone, somewhere, convinced him that his crap no longer smelled like crap because he had *insert angels singing* parted with/will part with his money for a product.
Sometimes, just sometimes, the customer is wrong, and no amount of logic will set them straight. I've worked for places that decided to no longer do business with customers because they were such royal pains that it was no longer worth the employee's time to support/sell them product. It's a small minority to be certain, but those people are out there. Best Buy is simply trying to maximize their profit by dealing with customers who likely will buy products that will allow Best Buy to make a profit.
Now, I don't love Best Buy, but I don't hate them, I've always been given a pretty fair shake when I've shopped there, and I've even bough the extended warranty a time or two on merchandise that was new/untested/roll of the quality dice, I've never had to use it, so maybe fool=me. Irregardless, I don't see this as a HUGE problem, but might change my tune once they decide I'm a problem. That's no biggie tho, Sears is next door to Best Buy for appliances, and across the street is another electronics vendor. I'll be happy to go there if the price is better, or if BB tells me to sod off. Until such time, BB will get my business IF their prices are best...I don't go there for customer service, I hate those people anyway, and have likely educated myself about the product before I ever set foot in the place.
Somewhere to go and sit and unplug with a book or a magazine or to just close your eyes for 15 minutes. Doesn't have to be much, I don't mean like a dotcom era rumpus room with pool table, air hockey, and furniture from the set of Friends, just someplace quiet and somewhat comfortable. The sort of place a person can go during their lunch break and just relax away from the beeping microwave, their co-workers incessent prattle, and away from their desks. Make this area a no-business chat area, and keep the boss away. A comfy couch or a couple of chairs w. a footrest or ottoman, and adjustable lighting would fit the bill nicely.
I wish I had the above at my job.
Once the last dollar has been sucked out of the ST enterprise (HAR!) and they decide to stop making new shoes....make the uberboxset of ST. The original series, the movies, TNG, DS9, Voyager, the whold schmeer, kit and caboodle. If it's been filmed, drawn, animated, videoed, if it's been part of the ST universe, slap that sucker onto a whole stack of DVD's, put it all in one gimungous box and sell that sucka as the whole frickin' Star Trek experience...all in one giant shot.
Call Carl in Marketing.....we've got a live one here!!!!
I looked at the ergo characteristics for that side of the desk. I raised my armrest to support my arm, not just my elbow, and also added a gel wrist support for directly under my wrist. Now, my mousing arm is mostly supported from elbow to wrist, and it has helped a lot.
For the mouse itself, I've had real good luck w. MS Optical mice, work mouse is Intellimouse Explorer 3.0, home mouse is 4.0 (side scroll wheel, very nice). Say what you will about MS software, they make/license a real nice mouse and keyboard. In fact, the MS Natural KBD I use at home was purchased the same day Windows 95 was purchased, back in '95!!!
Thank you Miss Jackson for tipping over a sacred cow of American broadcasting and phuqing it up for all of us. You're stunt has caused more good programming to be removed and censored, giving the FCC an excuse to treat us all as children, everyday, all the time, no matter if it is broadcast or cable. Thank you Miss Jackson, for ruining it for all. Skank.
I'm not ripping on the name Jan, no matter the culture it originates from. Here in the midwestern United States, in the 1950's, boys names Jan were ridiculed for having a girl's name (Jan being the shortened version of Janice). All through grade school, he was assigned to the girls side of things and caught a lot of flak for it. It really weighed heavily on him for the rest of his life. Believe it or not, a lot of folks around here were not too appreciative of someone with what was perceived as a foreign name. That's not right to be sure, but that's what happened.
OK, April Foole or not, your child deserves a real name, not a gag name or a spoof or your attempt to make a point or to be cute. You've no clue what will become of your child later in life, what path they will take, who they will work and live with. A name is one of few things you have control over in their life, and a bad/goofy name can really impact a child's psyche and who they become. My own father never outgrew the name Jan (old world version of John) and forever held it against his parents. If you need further reference, look at the flack that the musician Prince put up with when he changed his name to an unprononucable symbol. Do you really want people laughing at your kid behind his/her back the rest of their life?
Name them Robert, Sarah, Bruce, Steve, Karen, Jessica, whatever. Just don't get cute or play games with your kids name. It's too important for you to mess with.
I've said it before, I'll say it again
