  5. CVS works for source code! Samba for mp3 on How Do Your Machines Talk to Each Other? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I have a computer at campus and one at home. Besides that I have a laptop. When programming I always commit my source code to CVS - in that way I can just do an update from whatever machine I code from the next time. I don't just use CVS from Linux. When coding VHDL it's necessary to move the files to windows and do the synthesis there. Works like a charm.

Latex files are also easy to commit to CVS and even PDF files (don't forget to use the -kb parameters when adding!)

For mp3s I simply use Samba - of course it helps that my campus computer is connected to a 100mbit connection to my dorm but for streaming most bandwidths should do.

This is true. In MIPS assembly the nop and move -instructions are pseudocode. The nop is merely a sll $0, $0, 0 (shift reg0 left 0 times and store in reg0) and move is addu $target, $dest, $0 ($target = $dest + 0).

Also some load instructions are not possible and therefore must be replaces with 2-3 other instructions to actually do the desired operation.

The assembly produced by e.g. gcc is meant for hand-optimization and curiosity but the assembler will do optimizations and various translations.

  10. Re:No More High Speed Pursuits on Build Your Own HERF Gun · · Score: 1

without your electrical system and your engine spinning down you could lose power steering, power brakes, your lights would go out (at night at high speed most probably), various automatic transmission problems, etc.

Trust me, those problems have already been thought of - what if the battery in your car suddenly disconnects during driving? The power steering only assists in turning the wheels. Under the hood it's still mechanical. When learning to drive we covered this and I actually had to step out of the car and turn the wheel with force to see the steering wheel in the car turn. The key was not in the car.

The brakes are also only assisted.
When all electronics fail in the car, the car will stop pretty fast since it now has to turn the off-engine.

As for the safety of the driver I really don't care much for his sorry ass...
