  1. Sounds like a bad dream on Game Advertising Expanding, Becoming Dynamic? · · Score: 3, Interesting

But its not going to go away.

You pay $50 for a game, it shoulndt have advertisments so people are going to go for games with this. Well... look at cable TV People pay $50-100 per month for channels that have more commercials. But there is content on cable that you cant get anywhere else. Making a game compelling enough for people to purchase, well, and they maybe wont notice the ads.

But then, games themselves have been made strickly for marketing. Look at any game based on a movie licence. Ok, they are not selling other unrelated products, but they are selling a movie.

But there is a good thing in all this, not all game worlds are really compatible with advertised products. Your probably not going to be finding a +1 magic pepsi anytime soon. If you dont like advertising, dont play the games that use it. Just like you dont have to watch movies with product placement(with is about every major hollywood movie).

I could go on about creating art for profit as opposed to creating art for art, but i need sleep.

Whats even better is how some poeple make it easy to track down thier professor. Can you actually attempt to demand abolishment of IP rights. Im not sure wether to be horrified or to commend them. Well how about I commned them for there attempt but would be horrified if they succeed.

If you try this in the US, you would have RI/MP AA hitman after you. Im sorry i mean FBI agents working under a hidden clasue of the DMCA that prevents any attempt to undermine copyright.

Satire aside, if they do succeed, they will probably manage to create an IP anarchy. Content providers outside of Sweden would do what they could to prevent content from going into sweden. THose content providers in sweden that dont support this anarchist dream, would probably leave. So what you get in the end, is a place where content is free to all, but there is no content being created. Well except for a few anarchists.

That said, i dont support a place with no ip laws. But i also dont support the path the US has been taking recetnly. IP holders posses alot more power than IP consumers. We need to find a point of balance. IP holders need to allow market forces to shape the the market. Not make thier consumers criminals.

We really need to do a 180 as far as ip law is concerned. Copyright law needs to be reaxamed and balanced in favor of both interests. I suppose this is not going to happen when most people dont know the diffrence. We can vote with our dollars, but most of the dollars are still going the wrong way out of ignorance.

It could work, but we are not yet at the point were it will work exclusivly. A dialup user wont wait days to download a game. Some people dont have internet at home and couldnt download a game anyway.

There is another problem, the consumer midset is that if i pay $50 for a game, i should get something tagible and not just a license. So if publishers want to charge full price for a digitally distrubuted game, its not going to fly. I myself would rather pay $50 for a box and cd rather than a digital file.

The only market that could go exculivly online distrubution is MMO's, but there again, you better be charging less than you would for a boxed product.
