I can actually read that Foxconn had plans before Trump even threw his hat into the ring

I think the jobs issue is much more complex than Trump lets on. But, the last 4 presidents certainly weren't friends of manufacturing. I do see the Foxconn commitment as "fear of Trump". But, I can be convinced otherwise should you find an article demonstrating something counter to Reuters article.
It's getting to become the norm where the cost of developing the software IS a large chunk of the cost of goods of a piece of equipment. Such costs are called, "non-recoverable expense" and is amortized over the estimated number of pieces to be sold.
Your attitude is EXACTLY why Trump was elected. Hillary saying, "half of the Americans supporting Donald Trump as a âoebasket of deplorablesâ made up of âoeracist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobicâ people." source: Brietbart.

Your elite attitude -- and hers -- are the primary reason for the rise of Donald Trump over more considered views.
I don't. I do think this would have mitigated the problem though. It likely would have kept millions of phones from hitting the landfill. And, I know I won't buy a phone where I can't replace the battery. It doesn't have to be S5-Easy. But, it doesn't have to be glued to the backplane rendering several pieces broken simply removing it.
What is disputable is the reason for the changes. Is it man-made or cyclical? The planet has seen both global warming and cooling over multiple eons. The cycle will be seen again, with or without man.
We are stewards on this planet to protect the resources we're given. However, it's also important to stop panicking as Leo and Al seem to be. The logical steps I see coming from Elon Musk and other innovators will have an impact on conserving resources.
Just because we're not riding in the same bandwagon, doesn't mean we're living in a "fact-free" zone. There is some degree of uncertainty in all of this.
I've sat out two upgrade cycles waiting on Samsung to come up with a viable replacement for the S5. I want a battery that can be replaced by mere mortals. It doesn't have to be as easy as the S5 to do so. But, it needs to be replaceable during its lifespan without sending it off to timbuktu.
Seems to me the whole exploding phone business wouldn't have happened had they not been bowing down to the god of thinness. S5 is a great form factor. Why do you need it smaller?
You don't need the cat5 cables; RPi3 has WiFi built in. Just use a router and you're all set. Set up your first one with SSH enabled and WiFi enabled for your wireless network. Then, clone the card for the other 7 systems. They should all show up on your WiFi router and you can SSH to them as needed.
I've got 5 RPi's of various generations. I could be accused of being a "Cat Lady" of Raspberry Pis!
thanks for the heads up. I have an LG Washer/Dryer set. I had to reboot my washing machine. So, the thread you pointed to makes me think twice about LG.
I cite Ford Sync as a counter-example of Car companies handling this internally. 2012 Fusions still have problems and Ford will not stand behind fixing the issues -- even while they were in warranty. Standard answer, Disconnect your battery, leave off for 15 minutes, reconnect.
Still, it's Samsung's fault just like Ford's 3rd party "entertainment system" is their fault. The company that packaged it is who should fix the issue.
Although we proved it in the 60's, this stuff is hard. You've now got private companies competing, not cooperating via NASA to deliver this stuff.
The problem here is our federal government hot cancel contracts and retire heavy lifting vehicles. Frankly, the shuttles were not in immediate need of retirement. Endeavour, the newest, was built in '92 and could have been kept in rotation until there was a viable American-controlled alternative.
In the Reagan administration, the USS Iowa and Missouri were pulled out of mothballs to patrol the Strait of Hormuz. In fact, the USS Missouri served longer in this second period than it did in its maiden one.
In basic navigation, Google Maps still hasn't put the "Repeat directions" back in after their last update. Every other navigation tool out there allows you to press the title (or somesuch) to get the thing to repeat what it just said.
Agreed. I'm sitting this generation out -- again. iFIXIT's teardown of the S7 indicates that it's virtually impossible for those like me to replace the battery without damaging the back cover. I'll stick with my S5 until they come to their senses or, I'll have to look at that LG G5.
When will they learn to stop following Apple's lead?
Obama was in the Senate from 2005 to 2008; 3 years. He spent two of those campaigning for president. Experience would be applied to running for office, not experience at any elected office.

if the batteries were replaceable, the phones would at least not be headed to a landfill to rest with the ET Atari cartridges.
Maybe Elon Musk could figure out how to bundle them for rocket fuel...
When I heard about this on the radio last night, I kept hearing "Whamo!" instead of "Waymo". Kind of a bad name for self-driving car tech.

Allow your batteries to be replaced by mere mortals and all will be forgiven.

Hear, Hear! I love my Note 12.1 Pro. I'd like to get a couple more.

Actually, no. You'd give them your phone and wait a number of days. In the meantime, you either have no phone or you have a spare one to use.
That's NOT what they mean by replaceable battery.
Some features that I really like are:

Why can't Google's app do that too?
Glad that works for you. I like having the ability to refresh the battery in year 3/4. I may be a cheapskate. But, hey, at least I know it!

Unless Python
Guess I should state that I like it running Android. The others are running various versions of Windows...
