600 seems like a lot of land to me. what type of bots do they need to test on such an expanse? I understand if they wanted to build a lot of buildings and differnet environs - but seriously... I think that regardless of the reasons why they tell you they want 600 acres - they are probably hoping to have the 600 acres donated to them so they can just use it to expand their campus, and that not all of that land would be dedicated to testing bots. But they are using the robot testing argument so as to convince some donor that is interested in robots that they are doing a "good thing" for robotics research...
all educational institutions do this. they ask for a large X for project A when they really want to use X for proj ABCDEFG or even just A and Z.
makes a card that allows for this... but i havent looked at their product in over a year now - so it might even have greater functionality than last time I looked...
but it allowed for bios monitoring etc...
and you can test one of their cards out from their site. (used to be over telnet)
yes and no. I created a hotmail account two years ago while i was travelling - so that when I got emails from people tha thad attachments that i could not look at at the time, due to the fact that i was on dial up connections in various south-east asian countries, I could forward them to my hotmail box just to store them there until I got back.
I NEVER had given the address out to *anyone* - and I de-selected the "list me in the hotmail phone book" option or whatever its called when I signed up.
I got about 100 spams a month in that box. now the only thing I use it for is give it to sites that require a response to their email for verification of something - like craigslist postings etc...
so yes - it is hotmails fault in that I had never told anyone of that account and still spam was getting through. also - they added me to the public user listing at a later date without telling me... and I ahd to go back and re-de-select that option.... lamers..
only problem with this is that finding the source of the spam and actually holding them accountable will likely be a big problem.
also - who is truely responsible for the *sending* of the email e.g: the guy who was on/. a while ago about making such a great living at being a spammer etc - he provides a service to people who want to send out shitloads of spam. Under this law - who is liable for the spam - the _sender_ or the _client_ of the service?
so - if you go after spammers and you find that the email you are getting comes from someone like this said spammer guy, do you have the legal right to demand client info from him - and can you sue both him (sender) and his client for 100/email each (totalling 200/email)
the other isue is the time it will take to try to track down these people when you have false headers etc.. and when they are in china or some such country where it would be hopeless to track them....
It would be cool to have a phone that has *only* a crank and you would throw it in the trunk - or camper or whatever. When you were hiking, or camping or stranded somewhere - you crank it up for a bit - enought to make a 10 minute phone call - and when you connect you just get charged for that one call....
prolly a long way from that type of service, but I am sure we will have these some day.
I am reminded of a far side cartoon by Gary Larsen where a bunch of geeks with one big strong arm are standing around making fun of a guy who doesnt have one big strong arm.
I learned to cook from my grandmother. I would go over - and she would have a different recipe for me to make each time. anytime I would ask how much of an ingredient to put in she would just look at me, shrug and say "uuhhhh" - I never follow quantities except for a general guide.
so - here is my favorite dish:
1 package of boneless skinless chicken brests (4 or 6) some red potatoes (or wbrown/white/whatever) 1 large onion 3 stalks of celery 1 package of onion soup mix 1 bottle of gin (beafeaters) 1 bottle of tonic (generic) 1 glass 1 frying pan 1 large oven backing dish (12x18x2 or so) some ice
step one: put ice in glass, fil half with gin, half with tonic. Step two: drink 3: wash chicken (you should always wash your meats) 4: drink 5: cut up potatoes into 1 inch or so cubes 6: drink 7: cut up onion into 1 inch squares 8: drink 9: cut up celery into 1 inch units 10: cook potatoes in frying pan in olive oil till mostly done and browned on sides. 11: sear chicken on all sides so it is white. do not cook the chicken in the frying pan - just sear it. 12. combine all components (except onion soup mix) in oven cooking dish. 13: mix onion soup mix with a little bit of water in a bowl. add in any spices you like (except salt - soup mix provides plenty) dried basil - pepper - garlic etc... 14: drink 15: pour the onion soup mix/spices over ingredients in oven dish. There should be about a quarter of and inch of liquid in the bottom of the dish. 16: put in oven for about 45 minutes at 275-350 depending on your patience level. 17: go back to neverwinter nights while it cooks. 18: drink.
check on it every 20 minutes... you will want the tops of the chicken to be baked brown - then you know is done. put it on a lower heat if you tend to forget that you have shit in the oven. like 250 or 225... then it will take a lot longer - but you wont ruin it if you cant get out of the dungeon when you want to, trust me.
I also add: teryaki sauce from costco. worschester sauce, balsamic vineger.

I wonder what exchanges in the future will be like - for example - pizza:
Ross: C'mon guys lets order some pizza.
Joey: OH! OOOH OOH! get Dominoes!
Chandler: BSHAA! like - no. Little Ceasars is the best.
Ross: no mountain mikes?
Rachel: why - remind you of someone?
Ross: We were on a BREAK!
Chandler: So dominoes it is.....

That is true... except the years part.
