  14. Decide.com on How's Your Cell Service? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I used to work for a co named Decide.com - we were an online retailer of cell packages and phones. We gave you the ability to rate cell phone features side-by-side and determine which carrier had the best package for your needs.

In order to give you the full gammut of info - we had vans that were equipped with cell phones from almost every carrier, and it would drive around and the banks of phones would make automated calls from the van, play a pre-recorded message and then rate the quality of service.

You could then put in a commute path - or an address and see which carriers had the best service for that area - based on actual call data. all nicely overlayed over a neat little map.

The company obviously went under - but since I left before the final sinking - I am not sure what happened to the technology for doing these ratings...

    it was cool though.

"how exactly do you know it was a new CO, did you go over and ask the construction workers what they were building? I'm not 100% sure I believe your claim here"

Yes, that is exaclty what happened. They installed a new wire terminal box, and as I was walking by there was a guy working on it. I asked him what he was doing and he told me about the new CO. There was a room about 30 feet in the ground across the street and he told me that they just made it the local CO for the area.

He gave me the circuit numbers for the actual lines that my house was conencted to and a number to call regarding DSL. He stated that they were not yet advertising the DSL and that they would deny it - so he said to tell them the circuit numbers my house was on to get them to admit to the DSL availability.

I did just that, and they did try to deny it, but in a short time I had a new DSL provider and full T1 speeds to my home. and obviously i am talking about my downstream on ADSL - hence the name A-syncronous-dsl.

which was far faster and greater than speakeasy, but I do understand what your poitn was regarding the Ilecs shunning other provideres from their facilities.

but I assure you that when speakeasy tried to bill me for the "early termination" I was right pissed - and the whole experience with them just plain sucked.

Bullshit. I had SpeakEasy DSL at my house for a time. Actually Speakeasy bought my account as Northpoint went out of business.

I switched to SBC because Speakeasy refused to give me ADSL and was telling me that I was too far from the CO to get anything but slow ass SDSL. They had just installed a new CO across the street from my house.

THen after I verified with three different employees at Speakeasy that I had not actually signed up for any contract - and that I had already been with them for over a year, my account was a month to month agreement - they tried to charge me $400.00 cancellation fee.

They actaully billed me for it and I responded by showing them the emails that stated I was on a month to month.

In addition - they were charging more for the shitty SDSL that I had than SBC was offering me for full T1 speed ADSL.

They service was pitiful as well.

    Screw them.

There are many instances where the government has killed its citizens. Either deliberately or otherwise, and what happens? Is there a massive investigation where the culprits and or system that failed or enabled the occurrences are found and fixed? No.

Anyone here who blindly puts faith into anyone or anything else to keep them safe and watch out for them is an idiot. Period.

Its fine to have*hopes* that others will do the right thing with your best interest at heart - but the likelihood that this will happen is very slim.

*you* need to be responsible for *you* and all that you hold dear. You need to watch out for your rights, and ideally others as well.

As for the argument that the people in government *ARE US* - take a look more closely at who the "us" really is. Take a look at the financial requirements to get into a high level office.

Here are some questions that you might want to ask and look at the answers of, they are not rhetorical - and the truth about them will make you sick:

How many people in cabinet level position and above (including the presidential seat) previously or *currently* hold positions within oil companies?

How many people are married to oil company executives, or companies that directly benefit from government projects in the oil area (Bechtel anyone)?

How many people in congress ever worked in a normal job - like a "bakery" as opposed to how many people have never had any other job?

What about the "regular people" that are multi generational congress critters? (Gore family anyone?)

You really need to do some research on what you are talking about.

You are the EXACT little blind fool that our nifty democratic government likes to have as a constituent.

You have no idea what you're talking about - and have the mental fortitude and attention span of a flea, therefore you will conveniently forget the wrongs, and turn a blind eye to the corruption and the BS that comes out through the US propaganda machine daily.

What really needs to happen is more people need to get up off their ass, get out of the "Bakery" and run for office.

What am I doing? I am already working on my political career. I want to be elected into office not because I have millions of dollars to throw at a campaign - but because I have the interest of my country at heart. I intend to run for office - and I intend to be totally open with myself and every citizen around me. I intend to do my best to clean up the toilet of a government we currently live under.

My wife is from another country, and she is disgusted by how "not really free" the U.S. is. She was under the illusion that this was a free country - and she constantly is made aware of how limited and controlled our lives really are. "This isn't a free country - I come from a free country" is what she says.

I don't want anyone to think that this is not a free country - and I want to live in a world without fear.... but how can you control 400 million people unless you keep them fearful. Certainly you would not be able to rule over 400 million "Free" citizens.

I have been involved in drafting since I was a little little kid. I was given an engineering text book by my grandfather when I was young, that same book turned out to be my text book in High School drafting classes.

By the time I had gotten to high school I had drawn every last thing in that book many many times.

During all this time - learning drafting - I perfected manually writing at 1/8" text.

I haven't been able to write in cursive since grade or middle school. I can ONLY write in block text.

I can actually write each individual letter in cursive still - although I just am terrible at getting them to connect well.

so its not just computers and such, but more how you actually practice writing for the forative years that will have impact.
