I agree with Verteiron. This is NOT news. MIT has been doing work in this field since I was in high school in the mid to late 80's.

When I graduated in 89, MIT Robotics Group had already created a six legged robot that could learn to walk through a distributed reward based algorithm. I believe the robot was called attila.

Then in the early 90's they produced a couple new "generations" of these robots that could follow objects, seek shelter under chairs based on the shade (shadow) provided by the chair or table.

I don't see what the big deal is with this.

I am tired of "PC-ism". Call it like it is. So, you are correct was I making a negative generalization? Yes. Do I think negative generalizations are a bad idea? Yes. Do I think we should be able to make use of them in humor? Yes.

I think the important part is the simple fact that this idiot (Oliver) killed a man because he was afraid. In fact, I bet this ass actually knew Dodele and may have been friendly with him till he "discovered" him on the sex offender registry. Being the moron that he is didn't bother to research any farther and just assumed "he's a pedophile, he must be, he's on the sex offender site. I got ta get me a gun."

So, pick your poison. Pick on someone because they are using a negative generalization for humor or actually not comment on that, see it as the humor part of my comment and make a comment of REAL substance about the person (Oliver) and his actions.

That should explain it. ("in the trailer park")

He obviously didn't read WHY Dodele was in the registry, just saw his (Dodele's) name and thought "I gotta get my Gun.".

Here's another quote out of the article, this one from Oliver...
"Society may see the action I took as unacceptable in the eyes of 'normal' people," Oliver said. "I felt that by not taking evasive action as a father in the right direction, I might as well have taken my child to some swamp filled with alligators and had them tear him to pieces. It's no different."

Uhm, YES it is DIFFERENT!!! If Oliver the Ass would have read the site more closely he would have realized that in FACT, Dodele was NOT a child molester but convicted of assaulting adult women. Which is heinous but meant that he had to pay closer attention to his wife (if she lived with him) than his son.

In fact for a couple years (at least) they have had to scale back to give it a more "cartoon" feel otherwise they could push it to a very good level of realism that sharp eyes could catch but most wouldn't.

Which ever is easier to hack. Which ever is faster at posting a web page... That's pretty much all that matters for this comparison.

Just because Windows has a very abstracted design doesn't make it any more or less secure than Linux.

Oh and I use linux! Why because I KNOW how to secure it. To be honest, I am not nearly as confident at securing a windows 2k3 server than a linux box. That is the real point, a few people who posted to that article indicated the same things.

These comparisons are so stupid. Oh look, I made cute little pictures, these prove one is better than the other. Well, my daughter make cute pictures too.

They have the perfect trendy outfit and have their own style or twist to what ever they do. They are the "artsy" types.

The same can be said (IMO) for the depiction of the PC. As a PC user and an occassional mac user I couldn't agree more with the ads. THAT is what is SO funny about them. It's TRUE. Most of my work and play is on a PC. It has more problems more often then the mac AND I still continue to use it. Why? because there are more out there. That IS where most of the economy of software development is. I don't mean for Mac users to get bent about that comment but it's a simple fact. FAR more windows based PCs are in use for "work related" things then macs. It's that simple. ALL of my mac user friends are Graphic Designers, PR people, or in some Printing Publishing industry. Yes, All of them.

I think the campaign was brilliant, I will be sorry to see Justin leave as the Mac but my hope is that they will continue and find someone equally appropriate to depict the mac. They (PC and Mac) are very funny.

I was trapped in bumper to bumper traffic because people in this country get all freaked out and impatient. So, they don't handle the the whole "when the traffic light is out treat it as an all way stop" thing.

In any event, I watched the temperature on a bank display. In the course of about 30 minutes it drop about 5-7 degrees and the wind picked up. Additionally, it was much quiter. It was wonderful. I am not saying we should just drop all technology. I am simply saying that most of our devices are incredibly inefficient and it seems obvious what would happen on this planet if all humans just vanished from the face of the Earth is very straight forward.

The temperature would start to drop, dramatically. The wind would pick up and in a matter of a few years the Earth would start to reclaim the spaces we used to inhabit.

I disagree with the article in one area. I don't think it would take tens of thousands of years. I think it would happen MUCH faster then that.
