  1. Microsoft's .NET on Will Cable Unplug the File Swappers? · · Score: 1

A thought, if more and more people start getting capped for so much bandwidth a month, this could harm Microsoft's .NET plan, which they admit is dependant on broadband connections.

AFAICT it is not. Anyone know if it will be?

  4. Can't legal action be used? on Spy v. Spy · · Score: 2, Interesting

Just a thought, but this spy software intergrated in computers is installed sometimes unknowingly by the user. This definately falls under privacy and stalking laws in most places. Heck, even police in most states aren't allowed to use surveilance equipment on a person without a warrant, and these companies are doing it with this software. So can action be taken legally against Cydoor and so forth?

Or am I just confused as always.

  6. I would not use them. on GPS Meets Agriculture for Precision Farming · · Score: 1

It does seem like a great idea, however these are the most important reasons I won't use them.

    1) This sounds VERY expensive, and in the end it doesn't accomplish any more then what a competent farmer can do.

    2) In a decade where we are beginning to learn that "Producing more" doesn't mean winning, most farmers are REDUCING their amount of acres to grow the most unusual crops a person has ever seen. Pumpkins, flowers (for seeds for urban gardeners), etc. What use would I have for one of these when I have a field consisting of 15 acres of a crop that keeps my farm going?

  7. But only in the States on New Anime Block Starts Tonight Cartoon Network · · Score: 1

Naturally more anime on TV excites me, until I hear it is only on Cartoon Network. Perhaps its time to write a letter campaign to Teletoon to get some of these shows like Outlaw Star, Tenchi and so on put on Canadian (bleech) cable.

    Anyone else with me?

I was just thinking about the atomic time signal that is sent around the globe and how clocks set themselves to the signals.

Perhaps we could download and install new kernels and mods just by tuning in the channel. Perfect for newbies or the dialup-bandwidth challenged.

  9. A video game is not a good sign. on Farscape Video Game · · Score: 1

It occurs to me that when a TV show gets into merchandising it's not always a good sign. It seems to me that the executives somewhere are trying to find new ways to market on the success (we call it a downturn) of the show. Usually this happens after a dramatic shift in the direction of the show, which I feel has already happened.

I guess this show has its days numbered, well that's my opinion anway.

  10. Could it be your co-workers on Handling Discrimination in the IT Workplace? · · Score: 1

Just a thought, but could it be also that a co-worker has "invented" this rumor in an attempt to get you to leave so he can take your position? I started working at a local TV station right out of high school, and this didn't make one of the guys who had been there for 11 years very happy. He took an instant disliking to me and then soon after problems started with some computers. Someone had been using them without permission. I got in trouble because I was the one with computer know-how. Turned out it was him and accusing me.

Ah the joys of the business world. Maybe I'll become a farmer. Yeah, no money to work with, bigger headaches, but at least you are your own business.

  11. Venting on Home Server Rooms? · · Score: 1

You're serious about this? in the middle of winter I think you're crazy.

During the summer, however, it becomes important. Check out home hardware for heating vents that attach to the furnace, then acquire a powerful 110v fan. I got one by chance. I wired it to one end of the venting, and then on a window I cut out a board, opened a window enough for the summer and insulated it so bugs can't get in, then cut a hole in the board for the other end to vent. Then I simply placed the fan closest to the two computers I have running all the time. It's a noisy beasty, but it works.

  12. Re:Depends on the game. on Are Videogames Art? · · Score: 1

I was using those particular games as an example. I noticed someone else had posted that games with good gameplay should be considered art (I believe he meant games that are responsive, such as when you want the little fella on the screen to go left, he goes left)

Perhaps we really need to define what "art" in video game is before we can put them in a museum.

I'm glad I'm not the one having to define it.

  13. Depends on the game. on Are Videogames Art? · · Score: 2, Interesting

It really has to depend on the game. Some games were just garbage, and then there was games that made a person wonder just how on earth the machine could do all that. Some of the early games like Super Mario Bros 2 and 3, Blaster Master, Sonic the hedgehog, etc. are sure worthy of being called art. They knew the machine so well in and out that using various tricks they made it appear to do more then it was capable of. I consider these type of games more then just programming of another cartridge to sell to make a quick buck.
