That's exactly what I thought of when I saw the headline. Truth may be stranger than fiction.

it seems the music "industry" has been doing a very good job of this. What exactly you want is dynamic compression, not normalization. click here for more information.
would happen to be BlueJ. It's written in Java, so it'll work on a lot of platforms, it's got a very simple interface, and just lets you code. None of the clutter of Eclipse.
I'd have to agree.. all my nerd friends are at least interested in linux, whereas 5 years ago they thought it was too arcane and annoying and stupid. Attitudes are definitely changing.
My university exploit scans new machines on the network and won't let you on unless you've installed patches (focused at windows). I and many many others have used linux with much sucess on a variety of platforms supported by linux.
actually, I was going through my legally obtained mpeg-4 backup CDs earlier this week, and found a number of Discs had irrecoverable errors on them, despite having been kept at room temperature, in cd sleeves, and having no scratches. The longevity of cheap to medium grade CD media is not nearly as high as you'd think.
I'll bite. The reason for this inconsistency is this:
Filming in public is a doubled-edged sword. One one hand, it can be used to catch government officials breaking the law, but on the other hand it can be used exclusively by government officials (being illegal to normal humans) against the will of the people. The fear is that technology will allow governments to enslave people, rather than allowing people to be freed by it.
Where are screenshots of the interesting (i.e. unique) things about this distribution? All I saw was a showcase of Gnome 2.8. About 2 screenshots were of synaptic, and there was absolutely nothing of its installer. That, being a Gentoo user, would be what I am most interested in seeing.
that's okay. Firefox/Firebird/Mozilla/Netscape/Gecko has gone through so many name changes, that one more per MS OS release wouldn't make a noticeable difference.
When I first read the article, I thought of a monkey mask or something equally goofy and funny. However, I saw your gas mask idea and couldn't help but laugh. That's awesome man.
Actually, I timed the ads when I went to see American Wedding with a stopwatch. From lights down, to the Universal logo appearing, it was 22 minutes. It's only gotten worse. To the point where I bring a gameboy or similar entertainment device with me into the theatre. I would NOT be surprised to hear 30 minutes now. (This was well over a year ago). Regal my ass.
as someone who lived 7 miles west of Hampton, I'd have to agree with one of my siblings posts. The place is hopping with tourism and would make a pretty damned good test market. I dunno what you're on, but pretty much the entire east coast is one big suburb.
but I would really like to emphasize this. Linux needs decent quality DVD authoring (read GUI... not dvdauthor) and transcoding software. K3b is probably the easiest place to integrate transcoding (they already have support for DVD -> DivX), but I am talking about MPEG2 -> MPEG2 to make dual layer DVDs fit on 4.7 Gigs. This is the place where I feel that linux is lacking the most. That and ATI's drivers suck, but that's not our fault, right?;)
I run Gentoo Linux on my A64 2800 & MSI K8T Neo. I'm incredibly happy with it and the thing is fast. There's still a few kinks in the install procedure, but if you've installed Gentoo before, you could probably handle it. It gets my seal of approval:)
I got one a couple years ago.. It's fairly well padded and comfortable. I used it for a year for everyday school use with no problems at all. I only stopped using it to give to a friend. I'd recommend it as it seems to fit your needs as described.

in three days, we'll read a story about how the Illinois legislature is banning municipal wireless.

100mbps for $40 a month is hard to pass up... I'd kill to live where you are today.

and use up your bandwidth limit for the month within 10 minutes of using the thing at full speed.

except for the fact that baby's poop is not usually brown and runny.

I use ReiserFS, Raid-5, Samba, and an Gensplash patched Gentoo kernel on my webserver. What's your point?
I mean honestly... Hasn't the PATRIOT ACT cause us to be bent down and rammed up the ass with an anal probecam already?
why the hell would the Jacksonville police have pepper paint balls?
if you're on gentoo, emerge mmsclient
