    Given Linux binary compatibility (present in BSD already), Definately. There's a lot of little things in Linux that irritate me that BSD has gotten right. Example: Mandatory mixing of /dev/dsp. Not to mention, OS X has one of the sexiest GUIs out there.

    Just because they're aimed at being an easy to use dominant desktop OS, doesn't mean they have or will get there. Just look at what happened with Freedows.

    while the in-browser update worked for running as root, it didn't replace it for my user accounts. Thus, I just synced my local portage tree and emerged the latest version of firefox(-bin) instead... worked like a charm :)

    use a Zaurus Handheld. It works with linux, running a Qt-based GUI. You can get multiple packet sniffing and wireless finding utilities going. I found it to be quite fun for road trips. However, it isn't a substitute for a real laptop if you want to be able to easily run any off the shelf apps (as they either need to be compiled for the zaurus processor).

    go with Freedns.afraid.org. They support dynamic domains and also give you a great deal more control than dyndns.org. I use them to host a couple of domains on my cable connection and have had nothing but good luck. Best part is, it's free (but donations are graciously accepted of course).

    I wonder what effect a road bike would have upon bugs? I mean, one could go faster in the flats where bugs are likely to reside, but at the same time, wider tires would allow one to run over more ants. Oh, the dillemmas!

    I'd rather not pay $44 a month to have the privelage of using a mobile phone. VoIP would cost me about $5 a month for equivelent usage.

    Keep a cell phone around with no service plan. They are required to dial out to 911 regardless. You can pick one up at a local thrift shop for around 5 dollars.

    RTFA. They're using an unpassworded VNC server as the payload for your favorite win32 exploit. Thus, once you can root their machine, you can run a full VNC server in RAM and then wait till said luser sets their aim away message and goes to their boyfriend's house and have fun looking through their files remotely.
