For some (most), this article rings true, but for others, I'm sure they are wriggling in their seats saying "No it doesn't!." Revenge can only feel good if your acting on your ego-centric tendencies - congrats, your acting from a subhuman level - fooling yourself into thinking that what your doing is right even though you know that what your doing is just as wrong, if not more so. If you truly love someone and they do something wrong or negative towards you (only in your opinion - not necessarily in theirs), your telling me that the only thing that makes you feel good is if you hurt them too? That's sick... as in mentally sick - you need help. Most people (like the feces-spreading woman) might get a kick knowing that her former husband has a smelly apartment, but after awhile I would imagine that guilt would set in (or atleast I hope it would), since she LOVED The guy for a LONG time. How can you people just turn love off - yes, even if someone just cheated on you. If you get pissed and can act in this vengeful way then you obviously never loved them and have just been fooling yourself into thinking that you do - in other words - you don't know what love is.
If your spouse of 5 years all of the sudden doesn't have as much interest in you any more, and has a loving interest in another person (not just a fuck-biddy, but a real relationship), you can either try to screw them over somehow, or LET THEM GO BECAUSE YOU LOVE THEM. Most people are almost ALWAYS acting from their ego-centric parts of their mind - in other words - they know not what they do. If you recognize this, you can actually love someone for WHO THEY ARE, and if at one point down the road they do something that you don't agree with - you don't throw all that away, judge them unworthy, and bust out the acts of vengeance - you grow by understanding that they need to live their own lives and so do you. You feel peace in knowing that you can let them go without trying to hurt them back - eventually in life, they will realize that they left a perfectly nice person who was always there for them - not their last vengeful memory of someone trying to fuck them over - then you've just converted all love to hate - this is NOT where you want to be.
As for the car example - its YOUR decision to get pissed off and then its YOUR decision that "getting back" by so vengefully driving by them (ooooh) feels good. A lot of people have decided to feel this way (they don't realize that their choosing - they think its natural human behaviour!) and so the article is true for most people, but its painfully obvious that people do not have to be this way at all. Why do you let a guy who drives beside you and "gets in line first" bother you? The guy must have all the power in the world if he can get you totally pissed off just by driving by you - or is it that you are the most powerless? Perhaps you think you are powerless and that makes you sad/mad (can you say headgames?). Therefore, the only thing you think you can do is to drive by the guy and hope that your 5 second delay really bothered him. Congrats, you are now super-powerul - feel good about yourself.
For a second there, you had the power to let him in and show that you are above all that childish "me first, me first!" crap, but you blew that for a cheap thrill that if you thought about it, you shouldn't really be having. Turns out your still children but with X number of years of hiding/transforming your childish tendencies as effectively as possible - so effectibve that you don't even realize it - not even when your called on it in an article such as this one.
The key is to actually CHANGE your behaviour to grow and feel at peace, not just change its form so it can make you act the same way with some new made-up justification.
Evolution is not "progress" it is adaptation. This is such a key concept that many of people miss. Things evolve back and forth according to their environment.
Who told you that? I would say its both, but that depends on how you define progress, therefore no opinion matters on this subject as people can understand it many different ways. There is a lot of stuff (the majority) that we do that has nothing to do with adapting to our environment - most people are further away from being "one with their environment (the true environment)" then they were 100 years ago. A lot of our activites have to do with self improvement, trying to figure out who/what we are, mindless commentary and opinions on every facet of life, how we can fill our time with usless entertainment/materialistic items to keep our minds off the fact that none of this matters except knowing who/what we are, etc.
But returning to the point, there are many scientists and activists who believe that there is some predetermined greatness we are heading towards and that genetic engineering allows us to press fast forward on so to speak. This tripe. We aren't "heading" anywhere, we are adapting to environments. So anyone who uses this technique to justify what they want to do to humans, is using a bs argument.
Its funny that you think you know what you are talking about. You are simply stating your opinion, which is no more right/wrong than theirs. I personally believe that we are heading towards something great. Its actually strange to me that you don't see it, but people are at vastly different levels of conciousness in this day in age, so it's totally possible that you could miss it.
Yeah I don't quite get it - I mean, your allowed to listen to the radio WHILE its playing a song, but you can't listen to that song 5 hours later when you wake up? What if you found some crazy way of delaying (by bouncing them around somehow) radio waves from reaching your receiver until several hours after it was initially brodcasted. This would still be the original stream so it should be completely legal - dunno if its possible though - IANARB (I am not a Radio Buff). OTOH, making a copy is sort of like storing the original sound waves that were being broadcasted (I mean its "digital" right), so its the same stuff, different medium, so your not putting XM out any money - unless they legally have to pay royalties on your ability to play the song afterwards. They sent you the stream, paid for the stream, then you copied the stream, so either its already covered, or it has to be paid for again - by XM - because it is their stream, your just choosing to listen to it at a later date.
Its funny (to me) that this person had to spend $800 and almost 3 weeks to fix her computer. I have two points to make about this:
1, $800 would have bought her a NEW computer much better than the one they already have. Get an estimate when you are getting work done on anything. Explain that if the total repairs add up to 3x's the cost of the actual machine being "fixed," then screw getting the work done. Its like dropping a $5000 new crate engine in an old rusty Ford Escort.
2, It wouldn't have taken that long to fix the machine if she had just taken the computer to a reputable shop. I don't know why this is but I work support and people never want to take the computer to the place that specializes in repairing computers. They always want me to come and do it. I tell them I fix networks, not computers and if they want me to do it it will have to be later in the week after hours if I feel like it. People actually wait! 15 minutes away there are 2 computer repair shops, but nobody will take them there. The repair guys could have them fixed by the end of the day.... the mentality of these people is crazy.
Just because it's a computer doesn't mean you have to bend your whole logic system around. If your car is screwed, you take it to the mechanic, you don't bug your neighbour for weeks on end to do it because he helped you fix a flat one day and is now supposed to know everything and do everything better than the actual mechanic (even if he can).
It's like there is a mental block if you mention C O M P U T E R. Having people unplug a cord is impossible, but if you asked someone to unplug a toaster, it would be no problem. Click "My Computer" twice with your left mouse button - thats impossible! Set the microwave to cook for 5 minutes - no problem! Its very strange.. there should be some sort of test done on these people as it is toally the subjects mind that makes this so difficult.
A two-province, 10-day road tour of solar cars built by university students ended in tragedy on its first day yesterday when one of the cars veered into a minivan east of Stratford, killing the driver. Andrew Frow, a 21-year-old engineering student from the University of Toronto, was killed in the collision just before 4:30 p.m. on Highway 7/8 between Shakespeare and New Hamburg, police said.
Frow received serious head injuries in the collision and was transported by ambulance to St. Marys Hospital in Kitchener, where he died, police said.
Rudy Schoenhoeffer, 45, of Stratford, the driver of the minivan, was not injured, police said.
The crash occurred after the six teams on the Canadian Solar Car Tour had made their way through London, stopping at noon at the University of Western Ontario.
Imran Atcha, co-project manager of the Western engineering solar car team, said he was shocked to learn of the North York student's death.
Western Ontario's solar car wasn't on the road tour because the local team is concentrating on building a new one, at an estimated cost of $100,000, for North American and world competitions next year, Atcha said.
The tour, sponsored by the Ontario government to raise awareness of solar technology, began yesterday in Windsor and was to end Aug. 21 in Quebec City.
The six teams were supposed to meet provincial Energy Minister Dwight Duncan at the University of Toronto tomorrow -- the one-year anniversary of the massive power blackout.
The University of Toronto team's solar car, a low, flat three-wheeled vehicle with a dome for the driver, was travelling east on Highway 7/8 when it started to fishtail, Const. Tim Diebel of North Perth OPP said.
"The vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and was struck by a minivan."
The solar-powered car was part of a convoy with a lead vehicle, the solar car and a chase vehicle following behind, Diebel said.
Police said the top and bottom half of the car ended up on opposite sides of the road after the impact.
A section of the highway east of Shakespeare was closed for hours while police investigated.
Diebel said police are examining various aspects of the accident, including the way the vehicle is steered and its stability under different conditions.
Ben Esposito, co-manager of the UWO solar car project, said solar-powered cars are steered with a direct steering arm, "basically one stick." The car is steered by pulling the stick in one direction or the other.
Atcha maintains the steering "is probably the most heavily tested part of the car, if anything for all of our safety checks, if we go to a race, that's one of the things they check for is the steering and braking for the car."
Esposito said the new car the UWO team is building likely will use a different steering system that involves two levers instead of one stick for better control and to create more room in the tight cockpit for the driver's legs and body.
Solar cars are capable of cruising speeds of 80 kilometres an hour and top speeds above 120, he said.
Atcha said solar cars are equipped with a roll cage and harness to ensure the safety of the driver.
"It's important for us that we have to follow a number of guidelines to make it safe for the road," Atcha said.
There are strict guidelines to follow and without them, solar-car teams are not allowed to race.
He said, "these cars aren't necessarily built to take on a head-on collision necessarily because that's not what the point is. It's a race car and just like any race car, they're not built the exact same as the passenger car."
In 2002, the University of Toronto's solar car collided with another vehicle while leaving from a stop in Belleville. The driver of the car received minor injuries.
Perth OPP Constable Glen Childerley said solar cars travel on
Do you not realize that if the USA took their entire (or most of it) Defense fund and used it to Feed the starving, give the homeless shelter and clothing, provide drugs and medication for sickness, they could heal a large portion of the WORLD. Do you not think that the image of a world healer would maybe help a little bit of the evil image that your country has these days? Send Peace Keepers, not soldiers. When people see the USA colours, they'll cheer and know that they are saved as opposed to running away and hiding because the trigger happy pilots/soldiers with rock solid "intelligence" are coming to kill them and their innocent families. Oh wait, you don't get to see that stuff on TV because you live in the USA.
Sorry, but I am not an American, so I don't know the Constitution inside and out, but you see my point here: Stop spending a shitload of money on defense and being scared (which you wouldn't have to do if you didn't piss off most of the world) and HELP out your fellow Americans. If your guaranteed "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," but you can't pursue happiness due to having to work multiple jobs to get minimum wage and pay a bunch of taxes so the government can take AWAY your freedoms, everyone would be much better off. Perhaps it doesn't guarantee school, but if your society requires school in order to do anything above minimum wage, but you can't make that money because you parents were in the same situation and couldn't GIVE you a bunch of money to go to college, then LIBERTY = EDUCATION. Take BILLIONS of dollars from your obviously PARANOID defense fund, and spend it on LIFE, **LIBERTY**, and the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS, not killing random poeple around the world, stealing their money/resources, then caging up your society to keep them safe.

User: My software doesn't work after I install SP2. Microsoft, please tell me how to fix this!
MS: Oh, well if you don't use that sofware any more, you'll be fine. Does that help?
User: Sweet, thanks for placing limitations on my software so that I can only use programs that you specifically let me use! I love you Microsoft!
Maybe I'm missing something here, but if this just places restrictions on outbound connections, does this mean that now if I become infected with one of these malicious programs, it will not only spread (more slowly, of course), but now it will also stop me from using some of my network software? Does this actually help?
It would be cool if there were "signatures" of malicious software that you could download from MS and insert in your Firewall settings. That way, your firewall could do packet inspection and close down the source of the evil packets instead of just shutting down/limiting the entire stack because one thing goes wrong.
Oh, and let me guess, in a few months we will hear of some new worm that goes out and makes some huge amount of outbound TCP connections (not actually doing any harm, but just a shitload of outbound TCP connections) across a LAN to halt activity for all users. If that doesn't work, perhaps the queue itself can become so large as to bring the machine down? I imagine this has been tested, but with MS, you never know...
(except those Americans who aren't insane security nuts)
The other day, I saw "soldiers" on the news which were hangin' outside the Statue of Liberty and spread around NY City. Foreign tourists were getting their pictures taken with them beause they had never seen guns like that in real life, nor had they seen soliders walking around populated areas when there is no war going on.
Oh wait, this is the USA, there has to be a war on something or the politicians don't know what to do with themselves! Spend Spend Spend all your hard earned American dollars on Weapons Weapons Weapons, god forbid you spend that insane budget on.. oh, I don't know, providing the necessities of life to EVERY one of your citizens, some better (read: less costly) education systems, better healthcare, lower taxes etc.
No wait, we should probably get some super-duper expensive-fingerprint-reading lockers so all the tourists can put their pocket knives (which they will have again on the street anyway), toenail clippers, pens/pencils, "dangerous" jewellery (like chains!), etc
Yeah that will make us feel better. And only 10 more kids can't afford to go to school or eat because of it. Sounds fair to me!
I have a Gateway M505XL which Gateway appears not to sell anymore (I can't find it on their website). It is a Centrino-based laptop which has given me more than more than 5 hours of battery life. I watched a full DVD and a few episodes of The Family Guy on a plane recently and still had plenty of battery life to spare. Its a 15.4" widescreen with 512MB, 60GB, DVD Burner, etc. There are several annoyances with this laptop though - there is a "media center dealie" on the left side which has a software-driven volume control for the laptop. No actual volume knob anywhere. This means when you are watching a movie or playing a game, you can't adjust the volume. The IR port is on the front facing your stomach (I don't know why manufacturers are doing this - (ahem HP) - PUT THEM ON THE SIDE! This laptop also has an integrated subwoofer which is pretty amusing. If they could get it to last more than a month or two that would really be something. Positive things for this laptop are:
No more pics of my kids! None of you little teenage kids who spams bad info all over the net needs to see what you's can never have! Also Justin spence is hosting a web site full of kids that are posting mis information and spamming my name with lie after lies so anything from that web page is just full of it.He is going to be sued hard! So much bad info on that site its not even funny anymore. Justin must think he is doing right since he is...
I love when people take the time to type out things such as "you's" and "you's guys." I mean, its bad enough that people speak like that, but to type it? Its hilarious!
Can't you just bring your own CDs to the dentist and play them in office that your currently occupying. That way, just the dentist and you are rockin' out to your tunes. Nothing wrong with that...
Yeah, I work for an ISP in a rural area. The town I live in has about 10,000 people. I can get a 2000sq ft home on an acre of land to rent for $400 month. My $35k-40k a year goes a long way. Its peanuts for what I should be getting paid, but I get a good raise often enough that I will be making much more than that in 5 years time. In Toronto, I paid $1300/mo for a small 2 bedroom apt, and the requirements that they ask for in the city are crazy. You need a $40k education, plus $10k in certs to get a $30k job in Toronto. Its a scam. I gladly accept a relatively low wage in return for nice comfortable country living.
MS should just hire a shitload of animators and take over the movie business with massive render farms. They copy everyone else, they might as well just throw their cash at doing what other people do, just more elaborate;)
They are probably just spending a lot of money and not "innovating" because there isn't an amazing idea to copy right now. They are in the waiting stage for someone to come a long with a great idea. Once that idea is there, MS will follow (read: will throw their cash at it and integrate into their existing market -- forcing people to use their products).
I agree, someone just needs to explain the analogy that IPs are like phone numbers and ISPs are like small towns. If you move to another spot at an ISP (from dialup to DSL or something), it can be a pain in the ass (depending on how the ISPs networks are configured), but you CAN have the same IP (phone number) somewhere else on the network (town). As soon as you leave the ISP (town), your NAME (domain) stays the same so people can still look you up in the phonebook (DNS), but your IP (phone number) changes.
This is obviously a case of some dumbass manager (or admin) that doesn't want to have to call their remote offices and tell them to change their VPN IP for instance. I have customers that are like this - "NO WAY, your NOT changing our IP, we would have to call like ONE PLACE and tell them to change ONE NUMBER IN ONE LOCATION! Thats TOO MUCH WORK!@!@$#." They are a good customer so we let them keep their address while I added a shitload of routing to our network to keep them happy.
Suck it up, if your going to leave the ISP which means transferring email addresses etc etc (unless you host your own mail), then you have to be willing to go through a LITTLE bit of change.
An anonymous reader writes "According to this ZDNet article, The Spamhaus Project has warned that organised cirminal gangs in Russia are supplying U.S.-based spammers with details of compromised PCs that can be manipulated to send junk mail. According to Spamhaus director Steve Linford, the Russian gangs aren't constrained by any anti-spam or cybercrime laws in their home country and have no respect for legislation implemented in other countries. Also, apparently 70 percent of spam is sent from China by American spam outfits who in turn have hosting arrangements with Chinese ISPs."
Oh yeah, and what about advertising bogus OSPF (or whatever routing protocol will be used) routes to take down areas. Since you can do this from your car, are you more likely to have "evil terrorists" driving around in their cars with 'x' number of wireless routers and high gain antennas advertising all kinds of bogus routes and "stealing" traffic from valid paths?
The tech details are sadly lacking in the article - but I'm those will follow
Insert a "sure" between "I'm" and "Those."
For some (most), this article rings true, but for others, I'm sure they are wriggling in their seats saying "No it doesn't!." Sorry, but I am not an American, so I don't know the Constitution inside and out, but you see my point here: Stop spending a shitload of money on defense and being scared (which you wouldn't have to do if you didn't piss off most of the world) and HELP out your fellow Americans.
How do I resolve these issues?

I imagine this has been tested, but with MS, you never know...
... You crazy Americans
Me too! That's why I always use 90210.. I live in Canada, and since almost all websites only ask for ZIPs and not Postal Codes, I always use:
Mr. Fake Fakenson
Faketown
California, 90210
fake@fake.com
If fake@fake.com is taken, I bust out the fake@faker.com
If a password is being mailed to me, I use my Hotmail address which is only used for fake registration information.
1) Decent style (subjective)
2) Long battery life
3) Great screen
4) Fast
No more pics of my kids! None of you little teenage kids who spams bad info all over the net needs to see what you's can never have! Also Justin spence is hosting a web site full of kids that are posting mis information and spamming my name with lie after lies so anything from that web page is just full of it.He is going to be sued hard! So much bad info on that site its not even funny anymore. Justin must think he is doing right since he is...
I love when people take the time to type out things such as "you's" and "you's guys." I mean, its bad enough that people speak like that, but to type it? Its hilarious!

Just start dishing out Tabernanthe Iboga (Ibogaine in the USA), and drug addictions will be a things of the past. Good times, and no more heroin!
Can't you just bring your own CDs to the dentist and play them in office that your currently occupying. That way, just the dentist and you are rockin' out to your tunes. Nothing wrong with that...
Looks like a cedar branch to me. Old cedar.
He's collected 32,000 emails from tired people, including an one from a Navy ship at sea that's too good to be fake.
Take out the "an."
MS should just hire a shitload of animators and take over the movie business with massive render farms. They copy everyone else, they might as well just throw their cash at doing what other people do, just more elaborate ;)
Its Criminal, not Cirminal
Go buy 4 QUAD NICs like the D-Link DFE-580TX. Then you have 16 NICs in 4 slots...
