I sit (I'm at my desk, in Colorado no less) corrected.
Also, I oroginally come from the state where the last Lt. Governor to then try to run for the Head of the State had a last name that sounded like a death disorder. Let's see if anyone can guess what it is.:)
The whole 'Let's legalize all drugs and have no foreign policy' thing keeps people from becoming interested. Plus they are a party (though a minor one) and I don't support organized political parties as they exist now.
That is the purpose of offices such as the U.S. Vice President, or, in California's case, the Lt. Governor.
No, If we didn't like the Pres why in the heck would we want his (or her) right-hand person brought in charge? We throw an administration out because it has failed in it's duty. Otherwise it would be like cutting off the head of the hydra only to have it replaced by another.
Do you think the california recall election is fair?
Personally, I think this is the best thing to happen to politics in a long time. In this election voters can vote for the person, not just the party. They feel their vote means more, and that is not just going to 'The lesser of two-evils.'
Everytime I hear someone bitch and moan about Bush and the 2004 election. I tell them: 'Yeah, but are the alternatives any better?'
For the record, I hate political parties period. I'm a Fiscal Conservative, Social Liberal. Both parties have whored themselves to special interests to the point that I don't even pay attention any more.
(Ok, forcing myself to stop the political rant. I'll just write a Journal Entry instead.):)
is this a possible explaination for hermaphrodites?
Take this question one step further? Has it ever been recorded where one set of DNA contains a genetic disorder and the other does not?
IANAB, I just find the idea insteresting and maybe a possiblity for treatment (Find the problem early enough, then introduce an extra set of DNA to reduce the impact of the disease; though this idea definitely has some ethics baggage attached.)
Is it just me? Or does the idea of writing a 'book' on this seem old-fashoned? Why have have a web-site where Linux users, especially new one's can submit their input on issues with Linux. Then at least developers can look and possibility offer solutions.
Seems like the obvious open-source solution to an open-source problem.
Of course, you'll know all too well, when the CIA goons come crashing through the front door.
If 9/11 and Iraq proved anything; it's that the CIA is the least of our worries. Now the NSA. Them some scary ass Mo-Fo's! Like, I remember one time I saw these guys in black......
Quit looking on the Internet, no good artist will post his/her work there just so it could be taken by hundred's of people to be claimed as their own.
Check your local Art School, as an Artist (part-time) I can say chance's are it teaches 3d modeling and compositing so there you will be able to find people who not only have the knowledge of what you are looking for but also are looking for a way to advertise that they have that knowledge. An artist just starting out will typically for for free just for the exposure and the ability to put his/her contributions on a demo reel.
Comcast Depends on where. I've had good service from them in the past, but bad service when I moved somewhere else. QWest is the same way. I moved to one location where the only DSL I could get was QWest/MSN for a reasonable rate.
-B
PS Anyone want a MSN DSL router? They never asked for it back.
I guess my feelings are that for private citizens this could be a very cool idea, but for a general populace control/observance I'm a little worried.
There are much larger concerns, like false sense of security. What happens when parents start believing that they no longer have to spend as much time around their kids because, "They always know where they are."
For me, this is a much larger concern, and much more likely to happen.
Common Sense would tell us these machines aren't necessary; that any activity in which this device is required would already have a guardian nearby or the child is old enough that it is not necessary, in that case the device is not needed anyways.
Overall rating: This is just another device that enables Parent's to reall f*ck up their kids while they have a 'clean' conscience when they're out banging the Secretary or Pool boy.
What is the realistic likelyhood of someone pulling your financial information from your trash?
Ever tried to get false charges removed from your credit report?
In one case, for a false telephone account it took:
1. Every lease since the charge took place (the original, notorized).
2. A bill statement from every month since the false charge showing an address other than the one in the false charge (again, copies weren't good, originals, notorized).
3. The phone statements from your real account during the time since (originals, notorized).
Two years later, the collection agency stopped, then you had to fight to get it off your credit report!!!
I've owned a shredder since my sophomore year in college. If someone is going to max out my credit cards.... ITS GOING TO BE ME!!!!!:)
Considering G.W. runs a press conference once every six months, before an invasion, or after he beats up on some third world country, you expect better treatment?
Solution: Easy, 1. Select some area(South Dakota or some other area no one cares about will do) 2. Declare it a third-world nation 3. Create a couple of news articles about the 'culture' of this area and it's resentment against the US (Rednecks have rights too!):) 4. ??? 5. Profit! (Opps, wrong story) 6. Leak a story about 'bovine' weaponry to the media, let the fun begin....:)
Ok, I wasn't going to do the "Un-American" and "Big-Brother" post. (See previous post here) but this paretn post got me motivated to do it anyways.
There have been many comments on Slashdot where those from other countries would ask "Why are American's so paranoid about privacy and freedom issues???" or something to that affect. I'll respond to that as well while managing to stay on-topic.
Basically, all American's know that their government is run by a bunch of morons because no one is their right mind would put themselves in such a position unless they were stupid our corrupt because it would be much easier to be successful in the private sector (thank you capitalism). So, it is American nature to hate whoever is in office. In fact, an American President approval rating is more like a "hasn't run the country into the ground yet" rating.
Americana are paranoid because they want to make sure those making the "big" decisions aren't about to fsck the country up serious!
Now on to the phones; because of this American nature to distrust someone or something else making decisions for them, don't count on these new "smart" phones being successful in the US. In our countries, where people are more used to trusting others, this might catch on.
I will finish with this. The US could survive as a society if the entire government was destroyed tomorrow. We do not rely on it to the point that it is necessary for our survival. It is mostly there to make sure some stupid country doesn't try to invade and fsck everything up. How many other countries can say that?
Check this Out!

The thousands of documents shredded at one time would take thousands lifetimes and by then the information would be beyond useless.
That's why I mix my shredded documents with shredded copies of the congressional record. What could be more useless than that!?!
