"Caution, WinZip 10.0 is not a free upgrade. If you are a registered user of a previous version of WinZip and install WinZip 10.0, you will no longer be registered."
There is a difference between switching from Windows to OS X and switching from Windows to Linux.
OS X feels different enough, so users don't expect it to behave exactly like windows. Linix (KDE) tries to look like Windows so users expect it to behave like it. (and are pissed if it doesnt)
"The [...] Macintosh [...] is not a powerful machine [...] But for the same price or less you could [...] buy [...] a Compaq [...] And I could get lots of software for it"
sounds like the modern stereotype of to expensive Macs...
(and just for the record: i'm typing this on my iBook and wouldnt change it to a WinTel Notebook)
i know, lossy format, but its more then good enough for me and works in every software i've seen. (and my camera doesnt support RAW/Tiff or something else)
Is the RAW format really that better (for someone who just want to make pictures)? If i'd do it professionally (and require the best quality), i'd use raw, but i dont see a reason why i should drop jpeg for raw.

Rosetta does not run the following: - Applications built for Mac OS 8 or 9 - Code written specifically for AltiVec - Code that inserts preferences in the System Preferences pane - Applications that require a G4 or G5 processor - Applications that depend on one or more kernel extensions - Kernel extensions - Bundled Java applications or Java applications with JNI libraries that can't be translated

what about Apple's iWork with Keynote and Pages? they should use this format as default file format.

but dont download the Firefox from there... its apearantly Firefox 1.0.
Goto www.getfirefox.com and get 1.0.6 (with many security fixes) there
it would be great if all Macs had a BTO option to get the new Mouse instead of the old one.
Is the Open/Save dialog from windows. you can rename files there, oben a Explorer for the folder, paste a (long) path there
I was thinking about switching to a Mac for some time, but since i need Windows for some stuff i cant just dump x86.
So if Windows works on the x86 Macs, then i'll switch to a x86 Mac.

PDF would be a better choice...
and here is the short (english) Version of the original Study:h -kurzfassung.pdf
- langfassung.pdf
http://www.wien.gv.at/ma14/pdf/oss-studie-englisc
The german full version is here:
http://www.wien.gv.at/ma14/pdf/oss-studie-deutsch
there is still extended Support till sometime 2010 (that includes security Updates but no new features)
so there is not really any reason to switch from Win2k if you're happy with it.
interesting parallel to modern Macs:

better solution: /. (story)link has a cached link attached.
0) Get Firefox
1) Install Greasemonkey
2) get this extension
--> Every
funny... i had disabled this feature some time ago, but somehow the linked page showed serveral entries in my Flash player...
QuickTime 7 is Cocoa, and it has a Windows Port.
maybe a sign for Cocoa on Windows? (again)
Thats exactly my hope.
I need Windows (and MS VisualStudio.Net) and want to use OS X. If i can DualBoot OS X and Windows, i will get one of those Intel Macs.

i tried Opera (my university gave out free Opera 7 & 8 Reg Keys some time ago) and just cant stand their GUI. It just looks and feels wrong.
Windows NT 4.0 ;)
(btw: NT4 + USB + DirectX would be more than enough for most people)
>Buy using Firefox IBM will require all web based apps the company develops or uses to be browser neutral.
not really... they could code it as Mozilla specific XUL apps. (but i doubt they will)
there are quite a few issues with the current nightly (but most of them are not that serious). See this post for some details
If there is some way to turn the DS into a PDA with WLAN i'd buy one! (well, if the DS wouldnt look that bad)

so how long until Google maps are served as SVGs? ;)
