    Do you *ACTUALLY* think that the partition layout has anything to do with actual bits of oxide on the platter? Seriously, now. When you 'partition' your disk, all you're doing is setting up a logical structure that the OS can interact with, it has absolutely nothing to do with the physical disk. The controller decides where to put bits on the disk, nothing else.

    Point the second: The atkins diet has been used for ages to control seizures by reducing the amount of glycogen in the brain. It just wasn't called that.

    Who says it's not a fad diet? I don't believe these seizure victims were as interested in losing weight as they were stopping seizures. I don't see where you could assert your statement given the evidence you presented.

    Great, hooray for the special ed kids. I'm sure it makes everyone feel all warm and gushy inside to know they're helping the special ed kids who form a very, very, very minute minority.

    What about the millons of 'non-special' urban youths who are getting fucked due to NCLB? Have a chat with a public school teacher from Newark, Watts, the Bronx, or Washington DC. Ask them what NCLB has done for their students! Until you do that, it's difficult to realize that you're giving validation to a rather fucked up plan because a very small number of students are being helped by it.

    Look at the 'antenna' of the new cell phones that don't have the aerial sticking out the top. They look surprisingly like the 'antenna extender' stickers. They're not magic, but yes, it is possible for them to assist in reception.

    How does Firefox assign and keep track of memory? Last I checked, it used system calls, which are part of the OS. Hardly something for MSFT to get worried about.

    Ever think of working for a Uni? I work for a large (50,000+ enrollment) state university on the east coast, and the work conditions here are exactly what you're looking for. I'm making about $6k less than if I had accepted the entry-level equiv. job on wall street, but I get free tuition and amazing benefits. Except for the odd emergency (Less than 4-5 a year), I pull a 38.5 hour work week, with overtime being reimbursed with my choice of paid time off or $$.

    Might be worth checking out the local Universities. They tend to take more chances on hiring 'non-traditional' staff.

    As an added bonus, if you're working for the state, it's almost impossible to get fired!

    Please, for the love of god, if you're not going to back your array up, MAKE SURE IT HAS SOME SORT OF REDUNDANCY! Merely striping the data is going to get you really pissed off when a disk fails. Note I said when, not if. I replace hard drives in our NetApps at work with frightening regularity. I no longer trust hard drives.

    Alarms go off in a web browser when a certificate is not signed by a 'trusted' CA. This has nothing to do with encryption or anything else. If the site's cert, whether the data is encrypted in plaintext or quantum bits, is not blessed (signed by Thawte or whomever), user gets the Scary Box.
