  4. This is my point exactly on Apple Switching To Intel Chips In 2006 · · Score: 2, Interesting

The hardware in my mini is going to be or, as some have already pointed out, may already be outdated. I knew that when I bought it. What I didn't see coming was a massive code fork to x86, so that 2 years down the road, the newest mac software will possible be 'x86 only'. This boils my blood. I had to go through this crap with the first Windows CE devices, some software was compiled for ARM, and some for Intel, and I was always on the wrong side of whatever the program wanted to run on.

I have also paid a lot for the software I have. How long will adobe and Microsoft support the powerPC versions of their software once Apple goes Intel? I now feel like the lifespan of my machine is seriously degrading. I don't like it one bit.

  5. Fuck on Apple Switching To Intel Chips In 2006 · · Score: 1

  6. Hey, check this out! on Microsoft Taps Bloggers to Promote Longhorn · · Score: 2, Interesting

Well, looks like MS is going to add paid shill bloggers to their list of paid shills that they use to spread propoganda. There's one in every popular message board, blindly praising MS for everything they do. It's usually easy to pick them out, they just sound fake, and never rationalize anything. I have to wonder what just how many people MS pays to pretend they like everything MS does. After all, I can't imagine anyone doing that for free.

Kinda reminds me of the way McDonalds pays rappers for rapping about the big mac. MS will pay you for writing propaganda about longhorn in your blog. Is nothing sacred?

  7. The webpage is flashy but totally wrong. on Nanotech Brings Battery Life Extender for Mobiles · · Score: 1

On one part of the page it lists common ways to maximize your battery life.

Make sure to charge the battery fully and drain it fully before recharging. This will properly condition the battery and will ensure that it will operate at its maximum capacity. This is recommended for all cellphone batteries. You can discharge most cellphones by unplugging the power adapter and leaving it turned on until completely discharged.

This is NOT TRUE for lithium-ion, lithium-poly, and nickel metal hydride batteries. Letting these batteries fully discharge ruins them. You'd think a company that's done "years of research" in battery science would know this.

  11. I think I understand on Epson's Female Printer · · Score: 3, Interesting

I don't think I have to mention how mental the Japanese are over cameras. Well, most (female) Japanese also like the photobooths that give you little stickers with your photo on them. I think this printer is designed for the average japanese schoolgirl who wants to take pictures with her friends and then print them out immediately, hence the handle to carry it with you. It doesn't even look like it prints on regular 8.5x11 paper, just 35mm print size photo paper. Add in the fact that it can print from a camera phone and you've got a device that would be a hit with ganguro girls everywhere.

BTW, check out the pic of the girls of team 8, HOT! :)

  15. Elec. Voting Used in Texas Too on Touch Screen Voting Industry Circling Wagons · · Score: 1

A few weeks ago I used an electronic voting machine for the first time to vote in a bid for new ammendments to the Texas constitution. Most of them were very dubious, like "If no one runs against a candidate for office, he/she is automatically installed without a race" and many other stupid things that just shouldn't be an ammendment to our constitution, a document that shouldn't be taken lightly enough to add "Churches may not pay taxes on undeveloped land owned by them" to it. I voted yes to many, but no for at least half. Stepping away I remembered all the controversy surrounding these devices and I was this close to just asking if I could use a paper ballot instead (but I'm not even sure if they would have allowed that.) My paranoia was confirmed a few days later when I learned that EVERY ONE of the ammendments passed. I didn't get to see the brand name on the voting machine, but I am now in full-on fear mode after seeing these electronic election candidates win by a landslide more often than not.
