I can see Microsoft "charging" people to use the internet, have their websites open to other "users" and blocking sites that knock MS or their products.
Free speech on the Net would end, and only sites deemed acceptable to MS would be able to be seen through the MS Gateway. Sorry. This is not my idea of a good thing.
Seems to me that this is how MS is dealing with the bashing its taking from various sites and the entire open source question. Do you really think that there would be any open source through any MS Gateway? Of course not.
Molecule sized cell phones implanted while you wait! GPS tracking implanted while you wait! PS9 seems to be closer than you think!
But really. This is a great advance. It could lead to pacemakers or other medical equipment less likely to be rejected by the body and also last longer.Very good news indeed.
At least it won't crap in the middle of the livingroom floor like my wife's dog did this morning. With any luck, these things will be improved to the point I can dump the "real" dog for the electronic version. My only question is how will it get along with the cat I already have? I wonder which will become the alpha in the House?
If I use some of this software, will my wife really believe that the 12MB photo of the cute bunny rabbit isn't really an mpeg of 'Debbie does Dallas." But at least I'll be able to hide the rest of the pictures. Unless she starts wondering why I've suddenly started collecting photos of nature.
But if I sell the box that the software is loaded on, include all the manuals etc., shouldn't I be able to do that? After all, The new owner then is the *end user*.
But if I follow what you are saying, if I sell that same box and include for free the software, would MS then come after me for giving away their software? It seems to me that the term "End User" means the person that uses the software in the end. If I don't have the software anymore due to selling the box it's on, seems to me that the person that bought the box from me becomes the "End User."
But then what do I know. I still have all my disks going back to 3.1 anyway.
If they prevent people from making a profit, or trying to re-coup expenses when getting rid of old equipment (hardware and software) then how could anyone not think that they are a monopoly. I think that the courts really need to define just how far the EULA extends, and not Microsoft.
If I buy a computer that comes pre-installed with Software, use it for a year or two, I should be able to sell it lock, stock and barrel.
It's how I buy a car, furniture, music, or anything else I have. I sell off or trade in my old crap to finance the new stuff. Maybe if Microsoft would offer trade-ins on the old stuff they wouldn't have to whine so much on the sales of older software. I for one would be willing to trade in my old copies of Win 3.1, 3.11, and 95 disks for some newer stuff.

Well dumb-ass, I'm 39 and lived through much of what scared you. I also grew up on Air Force Bases.
Two things.
1) Portland getting nuked wasn't because it's on the west coast. It's the shipyards on swan island. Everett Wa. was also a target for the same reason.
2) Joking is a part of American culture. It's how many people deal with depression and grief.
Within a hour after the Shuttle exploded, the jokes were flying. The memorial drink, what shampoo did they use, and few too many to list. But if you had done any reading into the Bert is Evil joke, you'd find that it was done long before 9/11.
Maybe instead of living your life in fear, wallowing in your own sorrow, do something about it. Raise money, donate blood, or join the military. Personally I'm going to live my life letting my loved ones know who I feel about them. Work at my job, and advance every aspect of western culture that pisses-off the muslim extremists that I can.
I wonder if when they get it back to port that we'll ever find out what truly caused the sub to sink. Or if they will just leave it as it stands now, with the world second guessing the cause.
I just guessing here, but it seems to me that if the mind is occupied, the body would react as if it were truly in the virtual world. It would then make sense that the body might generate more energy and thereby be a better battery.
Case in point. Story of a small hamburger stand in NC (If I remember the state):
There are two companies by the name of Burger King.
Both sell hamburgers
Burger King of Nation-wide fame tried to force single store Burger King to change it's name.
The court found that while both were in the same business, the single store had the name before the corporation. But as long as the single store did now try to use the same logo's, markings, and color designs, they could both use the same name.
Yahoo! and yahoo can continue to use similar names in the same field as long as Mr. serious doesn't try to pass himself off as the search engine, and vice versa.
1)Neither one is in competition. One is an Internet search engine, the other a "comedian."
2)The names are spelled differently. One with the "!" and one without.
3)One is a successful multi-million dollar company, the other a down and out loser looking to jump-start his sagging and failing career.
Personally I found his brand of humor to be insulting. I'd rather have my eyes taped open and be forced to watch Roseanne for a week straight than watch Young Einstein.
Somehow I don't trust M$ to not "add" a little something else to help secure your box and to also help secure their position in the marketplace.
Sorry, but the words "M$" and "helping" being used together sounds too much like an oxymoron to me. That's like trying to make "Tax Audit" and "Root Canal" sound like a good thing.
Since there are some days when I can't even spell my own name correctly this will help me out a lot. I know you've been there too. Too much alcohol, not enough sleep, and the caffine is taking its sweet time to kick in.
Now if they'd only come out with spell-check for the location bar in my browser I'd be set!
But to expect that a company that is broke to "do the right thing" and pay its employees is asking too much. Because the people in charge are trying to grab every last cent that they can to line their pockets before its all gone. We as employees are no better or worse than the owners when a company fails. Everyone wants to "get his share" before it all gone. I say grab what you can. If they make you give it back, then by all means do so. If they're too broke to come after you, then keep what you took.
I used to work for a major Hotel and Casino in Reno a while back. They were trying to streamline operations and were going to cut 250 middle management jobs. The only problem with their plan was that they told them on a Friday before a three-day weekend and didn't plan on collecting keys and pass-cards until Tuesday.
On Tuesday morning the only thing left in the main office building was the carpet.
The cube walls were gone, phones, computers, copiers, everything.
Let's face facts. People will always try to "get even" when being fired, laid-off or whatever.
Only the M$ legal department could come up with something so stupid.
Maybe the next thing will be to add a clause that states it's a violation of your licence to install anything other than a M$ product on your computer. After all, that will prove that their not a monopoly. Right?
Sure. And suddenly I'll become an absolute dweeb and only be able to code using a WYSIWYG.
I guess they figure if it's hidden in the TOS or licence they can get away with anything. After all who really reads the fine print...
NOT.

Let me see here.
A new Heat Sink material.
Can also be used for generating power.
Does this mean I can soon bring down my electrical bills by over-clocking my Pentium4 and adding an outlet to my computer case?
Cool!
I could stir fry my lunch in my cube!

Gives a whole new meaning to the Memorex ads. (is it live or is it Memorex)
Soprano's and Band of Brothers on 100"?
Then hook that up to the surround sound...
I'm there!

So does this put us closer to getting transporters?
I know more than a few folks I'd want to reduce to simple energy.

Can the same sort of recognition be able to apply to files that I save on the laptop?
If so, I'm all over it!
Then I can save all the porn I want and not worry about my wife getting into the files!
It's good bye doghouse and hello bedroom!
-Goran
I admit that the idea sounds good, but with my luck they'd give me one to power my pacemaker.
Then I'd forget and go ice fishing or skiing and have a brown out or worse!
Nope. I'll stick with the bunny batteries for now.

No.
Make them die a long, slow, painfilled death?
I have no problem with that.
