Ditto this. Started riding my bike to work many years ago, after frustration with public transit and cost of driving/parking. Bike commuting is fantastic, and the random times I am forced to take the bus/train or drive it's so depressing. My $600 bike from 2006-ish requires occasional maintenance I do myself, but works great. I'm in decent shape in large part due to biking, but it's . As you do it more, things you were concerned about go away. "What about the rain" it's totally fine to ride in the rain with the right gear. Too hot, too cold. Rarely an issue.
Keys to biking in my mind is
1.) it's not a race, there's no reason run red lights & stop signs, get sweaty, etc. going at a normal pace is perfectly quick
2.) don't ride like you are entitled. Whether legally you can or not, don't hog the lanes, give buses and cars the right of way, pedestrians obviously. Be chill.
Unfortunately a lot of my cycling cohorts on the road are indeed jerks. I keep promising to strap a GoPro on the handlebars to create a clip of bad bicyclists..but all in all I recommend giving it a try. First 2 weeks might be an adjustment, but I promise that week 3 things will click and you might never go back.
"You still can't take a person's livelihood and throw it in the dumpster. They trusted their jurisdiction to uphold the laws"
Seriously? I appreciate the sentiment, but this idea that the law/govt or whomever is looking out for you is not reflected in current society, nor any society since time immemorial. Folks with the money and/or influence have and always will tilt the game their way at the expense of others and as other posters have written, that is a risk that the 'pleebs' need to be aware of an account for. People are getting screwed over all the time...union busting, 340b, tax cuts for the mega-rich and corps, weird loopholes for wall street types, the list is endless.
OMG...I think you stumbled upon the next great start-up idea. Forget about solar, fusion, microwave beams from orbit...the real energy of the future will be generated by billions of thumbs frantically clicking away.
I can see Twitter pivoting as we speak to become the next Exxon
You didn't read the full summary (RTFS ?) The max capacity is double the initial 1,400 people so that's 2,800 people they can get to the about 80 home games...That's over $200k per year this will make! One can only assume the diligent and professional Musk Corp bean counters have and the respected, and city planners have taken this into account against the assuredly very low construction price. Also the effort will be subsidized by stadium game day giveaways, such has Boring Hats, shirts, flamethrowers. Don't you worry. People much smarter than us have certainly covered all the bases...
Agreed. Way back in the day I subscribed and then quickly ditched Hulu due to the ads. Have never looked back.
Ads for people already subscribing...that is really terrible idea. Can't believe they let that stinker out of the boardroom.
You sirs, have bright futures ahead of you in the boardroom.
On a more serious note, while I have seen all the pyscho-babble similar to what's been quoted, "...thepotential to streamline processes among numerous debt capital market intermediaries and agents....blah, blah" Literally I have never seen, in any scenario, where the presenter explains how blockchain will do these things.
And even if your plan was to dominate space, why advertise that fact? Wasn't one of Trump's points in the past that the US goofed by always announcing their military plans (we're going to invade Mosul, we're pulling out of Afghanistan, etc).
I was a big Skype user back in the day to video chat with relatives via computer/webcam hooked up to a TV. MS had a window of opportunity when they bought Skype but let it die on the vine.
Things that come to mind were a kinect-inspired, consumer level, tracking webcam, multi-user conference (say three people), and of course improved stability. I would have paid a modest subscription for a higher end consumer level video conference as well. Now we're all on Facetime with iPads. Skype is the crap we have at the office that no one uses.
I think we all pretty much understand that recycling being sent to Asia (whether China, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, etc) either gets dumped into the ocean enroute or dumped across the slums in those countries. That whole scheme was an externality that Americans benefited from at the expense of others. Having China take the trash was so cheap, it also prevented development of better materials and processes around real recycling and reuse. Hopefully things like less packaging, cleaner packaging, compostables and fewer varieties of plastics used will now become more likely.
I've had the Impossible Burger and it's pretty decent. It's not the best burger I've had, but good. I wouldn't get one regularly at the current pricepoint, but my hope/wish is that they will get the price down and move this tech down to McDonalds, Wendy's, BK, etc (but leave In N Out alone!).
If we as a society could greatly reduce the amount of beef consumed it would be beneficial to all in both health, and environment.
Because the Uber person in the Arizona accident was texting, they are now seating managers next to the driver. Driver monitors computer, manager monitors driving who is monitoring computer. I think the two back seats could be used for a Director and a person with a VP title at which point the fiasco will be complete.
Same here. WMC was/is still the best IMHO. Don't have cable but like to record OTA TV from time to time. Kept Windows 8 because of it.
In theory taking a shot at Apple/Google/Amazon on the consumer level should be straightforward, but if they just try to copy an Alexa speaker or Google home speaker they'll lose.
Instead they might seriously try resuscitating Skype. Some sort of TV adapter with a Kinect style trackign would be great for families. Sadly they let Skype wither into Corporate oblivion and Facetime has eaten their lunch.
Sandy Munro is a hacker in the truest sense of the word. Unfortunately I can imagine a day in the not too distant future when his actions might be made illegal under some sort of intellectual property law run a muck.
I wonder how this all plays out in Russian and Chinese relations. The Russians are said to be more than happy to see the USA chaotically, fumble through world affairs. A failure in the US economy would be equally welcome given the small trade between the two countries.
The Chinese however have a vested, large monetary interest in a stable and prosperous USA. The failure of the US economy will have a huge detrimental effect on China. One could see Xi Jinping phoning Putin to tell him to knock it off, lest Russia face a combined Chinese+American block...
Airport connectors are almost always a boondoggle. I dislike boarding a shuttle bus to connect to the airport as much as anyone else, but it's infinitely cheaper, more adaptable, etc than building a crazy above ground or below ground, permanent, Disney-style train.
Same here. The area I live in banned plastic bags and charges you 10-25 cents for a paper bag. Initially I was bitchy about it as well, but after a couple weeks you are totally used to it and the refuse that is floating around the streets is demonstrably, much greatly reduced. It's so much better, I wouldn't go back even if they let us. In a recent trip back to my childhood home I was astounded at the amount of plastic bag litter that existed. Add in the stuff that blows out to sea, the difficulty recycling, etc. My Trader Joe's bags have lasted for over 4 years, at 99 cents each, a bargain. And no stupid bags breaking in the parking lot.
Second great thing cities should look at, is commercial scale composting. Green bin for foodstuffs, soiled paper towels, tissues etc. The city picks it up once a week with your trash/recycling. In a large setting (think bulldozers/front loaders rotating the piles) the heat generated is quite high and the stuff breaks down very quickly into compost. Doesn't stink up your place (except for shrimp peels...that stuff stinks)
The difference in CO2 emissions for various zip codes is very interesting. As another poster said, the unsung benefit of electric is that the method of generating the electricity can be changed depending on what is cheapest and/or less polluting (from coal, to gas, to solar, or nukes).
But the "API" of the plug-in-electric remains the same. This unlike building out a hydrogen economy, or natural gas powered cars, etc.
Would like to know what a human being's CO2 emissions are per mile....
What's concerning to me about the Black Mirror franchise is trying to figure out the order in which there near-future scifi will take place. So will the personal social media rating system bring down society suchthat we are running for our lives from metalhead? Or does metalhead come first and after we survive that apocalypse we will find ourselves on stationary bikes trying to earn fifteen million merits?
Yep, that's exactly what I thought when I read the headline. Apple found a 'face-saving' way to get out of the deal without coming across as total jerks due to the real reason being the newly less than ideal tax situation.

Web advertising does work. I already bought a 110010001000 monogrammed t-shirt.

You are posting as AC so why not just state the name of this 'country' you supposedly inhabit. Is it Wakana? Zamunda? East Texas?
And even if your plan was to dominate space, why advertise that fact? Wasn't one of Trump's points in the past that the US goofed by always announcing their military plans (we're going to invade Mosul, we're pulling out of Afghanistan, etc).
Short story is pro-Trump folks don't actually care if he or his team are liars. The important part is that he is their liar.

Ok team, new plan. All you can watch television for one monthly rate.

Wow...that's the first time I've read that. Spookily prescient.

Ok, we can check that off the list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
