I have a 78 Mercury Cougar that has one of the mechanical clocks - unfortunately, it's broken so you can't set the time on it. I did the same thing - bought a little clock at Autozone and stuck it to the dash.
In this instance, "booting the PC" doesn't necessarily mean "loading all of the system files." Mainly just means getting the system up to the point that you're then pulling system (e.g. \windows files) off of the SSD.
Neither the article or the image provided point out what Apple's announced targets were.
Eugene Munster, an Apple analyst with Piper Jaffray, said iPhone sales were largely in line with analysts' earliest targets, but as public excitement grew so did investor expectations. "Our belief all along has been that there is a surge of demand coming for the iPhone, but it is hard to predict when that surge will hit," he said.
Most of the article goes on similar to this, speaking of outside analysts.
All I do from my home Linux server is read/write files - mostly from Windows clients, but I have a few Linux clients as well. Also some very basic MRTG which I usually don't even look at anyways. One thing I've consistently read about NAS devices is that they won't necessarily have the horsepower to push the network connection on file read/writes to the max.
What's your experience with the speed of files in and out of the Buffalo device?
So, to add on to what you've said, Digital is "like" binary - it either works perfectly or not at all, as long as you put some form of ECC on it.
If you had an audio stream with no ECC and some bits were corrupted, the decoding device wouldn't have a clue that the bits were flipped and happily play the stream, bit errors included. This wouldn't mean that there is an all or nothing scenario - you'd just hear the corrupted stream. In fact, that example is fairly similar to the analog degradation on videotape etc.
Generals had the same "game out of sync" errors - can't remember exactly what they were called, but it soured us on playing it. And my group of friends LOVED the game.
Age of Empires (and Age of Kings) had this set-up to where on a game sync-loss, everyone would automatically save a current snapshot. Then one person could at least re-load their snapshot and continue the game. I never figured out why EA didn't do something like that.
Oh yea, +1 for RA/RA2. Westwood was the SHIT at making these fun.
You do realize that when you stop using power from a power source, the wires don't all of a sudden explode, don't you?
Let's say you have a battery. The battery (let's say an AA nimh, around 2700mah capacity) has the potential to deliver a decent amount of current in a given time. Let's say you draw an amp at 1.25 volts from it for about ten minutes and then at the end of that time frame, you draw 10ma. Nothing happens to the battery, and nothing happens to the wires.
Likewise, something like a generator - let's take an alternator (to go with the car analogies!) You can draw power from the alternator - however, it just makes the alternator harder to turn. The instant you stop taking power from the alternator, it doesn't burn itself up. It does spin a little more free since there's no load on it. The gasoline engine in the car regulates the idle and uses less gas to turn an unloaded alternator. In the same way, a power plant has to gauge baseline load - because it's kind of wasteful just sitting there producing power for no one to use. It doesn't cause a problem to have more amperage on a line than you expect your customers to draw; it's just a money sink in resources used.
Guess I'm rambling, but unless there's a severe spike in voltage - and the customers would notice this - then you won't have an issue with dropping the load amount to zilch at a power plant.
Similarly, having no load on a nuclear battery - that will decay whether you use the power or not - won't cause an issue; it just means you didn't utilize the power that was available at that given moment.
Let me know just how expensive it gets to do that. Carrying 5v everywhere even in a modest home (like I own) will cost far more than putting wall warts everywhere (including paying for the wall wart to be plugged in, not powering anything.)
What I'll do is take the oil in from my previous 2 car changes (in a 16 quart container - holds the wife's car's 6 quarts + my car's 5 quarts) to AutoZone or Advance and they recycle it for free.
Then I buy oil for both (only issue is hers is 5w20 and mine is 5w30) - and 2 oil filters. Then drive home and change oil as needed.
A little more messy than having a fast lube place do it, but the fast lube places always seem to be around $50 (if no discount) and I can get each one done for around $35 or less. Of course, that depends on how cheap the oil is that I buy.
Are you sure you didn't have a Chevy Ranger? ;)

Duh. For submarine launched missiles, you'd need sharks equipped with this technology. Preferably on their heads.

What is this, IRC? I know this is offtopic, but please. I really don't care what your tastes in music are.

My HTC Fuze (ATT branded) WM phone has a variable focus lens. I'm assuming a lot of the other HTC devices have similar functionality.
I think Mario would take issue with that since Ron's known as The Hedgehog.
Well, if someone else gets one, you won't be worrying about anything anymore.

I'm thinking they need a "Send Lawyers" button to the right of "Ask mafia to attack"
Or "Create Restraining Order"

How about like a normal battery you put a charge controller ahead of the battery and stop charging it when it's full?
There will still be a waste, but you won't have the mess you're talking about.
tl;dr
This exact comment has already been posted. Try to be more original...
awwwww.
it runs Linux; how high should your hopes really be?
That's got to be the best Linux slogan I've heard in a while.
Here I was looking for a car analogy and I got a Ski analogy....
It's not fat, it's just big boned.

GameBoy Color != GameBoy. So yup, you're tired.
The median weight of a 35 year old white man is about 175 pounds
Wait a minute - we're talking about the IT field, right?
Give him a break, he didn't compress the map files *laugh*
Do this to a coworker's phone (earpiece works best; microphone just pisses off the other party) and watch.

You assume that you'll still have your clothes when you get home.
