You do make something pretty spot on, however. The masses generally may not appreciate something that you have, especially if they're a generation below you.
For people like you and me, NES, SNES, Atari were all the rage in our youth (rose colored glasses and all). Nowadays, it's p-iv's and PS2 and everything else new.
Anyways, my point being that even as little as a 5-7 year gap in age difference can make people feel very different about what is "the best". I agreed with most of your list, but I'm in the same age range as you....
If I asked someone younger (high school age) what their favorite game is, they very well might say GTA3 etc. They've had a totally different point of view on what's good and what's not....
Well, you could also play across a LAN or on a direct connection with someone who has a server that is not checking keys.
Even though I've found it somewhat limiting to only play online with people I know, from my own recent experiences with the ut2004 demo, playing with people you don't know and can't voice chat with is just as much fun as playing with bots.
Most blackjack rules I've seen have a "dealer must hit to 17", which means the dealer can't just sit there with a 2 showing and not hit, unless the whole table (players) are bust...
Speaking of Reset and Power buttons on the PS2, was I the only one to actually reach behind the PS2 and use the manual switch for about a month, until I read through the manual and realized you could turn it "soft-off" through the reset switch?
Speeds can increase, but the latency of random access on CD/DVD ROM drives is annoying.
I've got a few PSOne games that drive me batty with the "loading" screen (street fighter ex + alpha) and while on the PS2 it's better (you can specify to use "high speed reading" in the options) it's still no match for MAME and a hard drive.....
Actually, in my owners manual for my Grand Marquis (no, I'm not that old... darnit) it says to change the oil every 6000 miles.
riiiiight.
So, I change it every 3. Also, the spark plugs are supposed to be changed out at 100k. Nope, I'll do that at 50k at the very latest, and probably every 30 or 40 after that. I've had 3 cars that supposedly had 100k mile spark plugs in them, but invariably there have been problems (too hot an engine, bad spark plug wires) that screwed up the plugs so bad that even 75k would be pushing the plugs.
I've owned 4 GM vehicles so far, and now I'm on a Ford kick. One day I might just try those new fangled foreign cars (i.e. honda or maybe even BMW if I get some raises...) and see what all the rage is about. But I'd bet money that they break down just as much.
Anything that moves will eventually break. Just some things before others.
One thing I did recently was load up an old k6-2 450 with Linux, and have that running beside my main machine; of which, my main machine has one 15" lcd and one 17" crt.
Why?
Well, it's nice that when I switch to games on the real computer, that the secondary display stays up. However, you cannot easily switch focus (at least I cannot) to chat in an IM window, and then switch back.... (UT is a pain - takes 30secs to swap to a diff. task).
I have all of my 'net chat windows up on the linux box, happy as can be. I can also play music through it, although if I'm gaming I usually have a headset on (using teamspeak) to chat with people I'm playing with.
All in all, I used to be a one machine, one monitor kind of guy. Now, I'm looking to spend more money on more LCD's, to maximize my desk space.
Actually, you hit the nail on the head with your comment: the people on the other end of the line shouldn't have to swear, but should be able (without any fear of a "write up") to be a wiseass.
I think that would make the world a better place.
For instance, I would probably fall on the ground laughing if I went to the car service department, and had the guy behind the service desk tell me I'm a moron when I start outwardly thinking about what "might" be wrong with the car...:)
I'm not so sure that the private sector would be that good.
For instance, in my current job responsibilities, I have "Other Duties as Assigned" at the bottom. I wouldn't want to work as a network admin for a "space corporation" and sent up on a "test rocket".:)
Well, on the multi-part forms I've used, there's usually spaces for a customer to sign (think - car repair forms at most major dealerships.) Using the same impact during signing (pressure), you get multiple copies, one for the dealership, one for records, and one for the customer, all with the same signature.
I'd hate to have to sign for work multiple times...
I've been with AMD as long as I can remember, except for my first machine, and machines I've aquired for free.
The only problems I've had with AMD:
1. The Via Apollo chipset - in order to get win98 or later running, you had to install the motherboard drivers (I ran 95 at the time, and was trying to get 98 running, and couldn't for about a year, until I loaded the mobo drivers right after installing 98. Windows wouldn't see the ethernet card!)
2. KT133 - I bought a KT133 Abit motherboard. That was a mistake -- I'll never trust Tom's Hardware again. Given, now the machine is rock solid, but for the year that I used it as my desktop, it was an endless loop of installing the new via drivers, as well as bios updates to get the thing halfway stable under stress.
Granted, neither of these problems are necessarily with AMD in and of itself, mostly with VIA, but they were really supposed to be the leader... I have comfort nowadays that the boards I buy that support the Athlon XP (I own one kt400 and one nforce2 mobo) just "work". As well as have some good "tweaking" options.....
My circle of friends has been playing Generals a lot lately, and all around agree the zero hour expansion pack adds a lot of depth to the different sides, if you will...
The only problem we see is that the sides don't seem all that well balanced compared to something such as Yuri's Revenge (an add on for Red Alert 2). We fired up Yuri's over this past weekend and had a blast (ipx only though....) I don't know; the two games share a lineage, but since EA has the new C&C, it just doesn't feel the same. Not that it's not good; it just feels different.
One thing I've noticed with my slight tinnitus is that the TV annoys it more.
The high pitched whine has a lot to do with it. I can't wait until I get a projector or an LCD tv to get rid of the CRT whine... they can make monitors that don't whine much, but when it comes to 200-300$ television sets, they all have that whine.
ummm.
Is that link correct? For some reason, I don't think you meant to link to a School District....?

Which might be why I said "Unless the whole table is bust."
Durr. Of course it's a win for the house, even if one person is bust, but.... the dealer still has to deal himself unless the whole table busts.
Wow.

Actually, you've got a point.
:)
Why not just use an emulator with a "record game" feature?
Or you could require someone to use an official emulator to record the game, that way the emulator's not hacked to produce flawless records...
oh heck with it, just let the record stand. Way too much work!

Awesome skit. Probably the funniest on SNL's "Best of Will Farrell"
4th and 70?
:)
Holy crap, your team sucks

"Last time I checked, intense vibrations were definateley not good for, well, anything."
My girlfriend would probably challenge you on that statement, showing you one of her "toys".
Sancho? Is that you?
"I.... am Sancho..."
(see: orgasmo)
Kitty + microwave = boom?
You may just spark the curiousity of a few people out here. And stay away from my kitty!
Really, I don't think Janet would like Balmer to be her dance companion. Just look at those pit stains!

"corruption of minds" market,
Corruption of minds? You obviously haven't seen some of the porn I've seen. More like comedy, with the wooden acting and unbelievable plots.
If it's not an "honest job or enterprise", how does it make money? Obviously, there's a demand, and they fill it..... (ba-dum-dum!)
I was just thinking the same thing.
:)
I'm a little small *down there*. But I'm not that small.....

As opposed to those darn Jedi metrics?
