Fine. Draw up some paperwork with to be signed when you get your permit saying that you won't use a helment, and if your health insurance doesn't cover your hospital bill, the government doesn't have to. Oh, and no disability if you trash yourself either. You're a grown-up, right? Nobody else should have to take care of you.
Examples please? What do you hate and what do you like? For me the early stuff is boring teen-pop. With some of the late stuff they were full of themselves. However, somewhere in the middle I think they really hit their stride. I'm not saying that it is "great art", but I find it listenable and it was certainly influential.
Are you suggesting that the US shouldn't have developed nuclear weapons? The USSR would have developed them eventually.
Please imagine what the past 50 years might have been like had the USSR been the only nuclear power. Yeah, the weapons are bad, but I fail to see an alternative. Perhaps you can suggest one.
Back in about 1984 my cousin got her driver's license. I was there when she discussed her desire for a "vanity" plate to be put on the old beat up jeep she was going to be given. She wanted it to say "ACK THPT" since that would fit nicely on the plates of the time. Her father insisted that this would be a stupid move, since you would be stuck with it for a long time, and what it the comic was no longer popular? He insisted that Bloom County was a passing fad, like Garfield. Interestingly, Garfield is the big thing now. Never will understand that.
She didn't get the plate. I can only imagine now how satisfying it would be to have and old black text on white background plate saying "ACK THPT". What a lost opportunity.
So well-paid developers tend to choose Linux. A well-paid developer tends to be an experienced developer. Maybe through experience they have learned to develop and deploy on Linux. Note that this study says nothing at all about the quality of the software developed on either platform.
I use Mozilla and I simply don't see pop-ups. Everyone that I introduce it to wonders how they ever lived without it.
I was shocked the other day when I used a friend's computer that only had IE. The internet has become a giant game of whack-a-mole that I was pretty much ignorant of. I had seen pop-ups before, but things have gotten much worse since I left IE behind. Of course I stopped browsing and installed Mozilla on his computer, and problem solved.
The calorimeter is used to prove that there is a phenomenon taking place that we don't understand. Once/if it is understood, then perhaps the effect can be utilized to produce the amount of power you are talking about. Or perhaps studying will never lead to a revolution in power generation but will simply give us a better understanding of physics.
The point is that it doesn't have to lead to power generation to be of scientific interest.
When I was in high school (~7-10 years ago), we had Pepsi machines, and the school sold Taco Bell and McDonald's food on certain days of the week. Not to mention that Little Debbies snacks had the in-road on the grade schools.
Are you claiming that this is a good thing? Are you merely telling us that this is what happened to you? What is your opinion on the matter? We all know that many schools have Pepsi machines and a Taco Bell Express.
I don't think that public schools should be used in any way to encourage brand-loyalty or consumerism. Of course, I don't have a better solution for making school lunch taste better than the slop that it is. I packed a lunch way back when, avoiding hte problem entirely.
Funny that you call another a "troll" when you are both troll-like in your posts (calculated to generate responses rather than discussion) and the attitude expressed in them (I am a big old troll that would rather sit at home than go somewhere and experience something).
Have you ever been to a concert that you have enoyed? Are there acts that you would see if the price were right? Is your attitude a result of high prices or a real hatred of live music?
If HP were to pre-load Linux on the machine then they would be "distributing" GPL software. This would mean that they have to abide by the GPL. This might mean making the source available on a server and maintaining it. It also means that you give up some of your patent rights. Even if they did pre-install it, they might charge an "installation fee" to make sure that you know that they aren't distributing it themselves. It is just easier to say that Mandrake is distributing and HP is reselling.
This is an oversimplification of the problems related to error rates. First of all, how intrusive is a false positive? How quickly can it be resolved? If someone is repeatedly a "victim" of a false match is there a process by which they can resolve these problems even more quickly? Is there a trained human comparing looking at the results of the system? Finally, how important is a true match?
You have a good point about one-time attackers though. If someone is a sucide terrorist, they are more likely to not even be in the system. Also, people who are willing to die don't have to worry about an escape plan.
Bumblebee Man isn't Brazilian, though I guess the equivalent of him would be Chaves. I don't know if they would recognize it as a caricature of US views of Mexican children's programming or not.
Try watching The Simpsons in another country, preferable in another language. Canada doesn't count, btw.
I saw an episode in Brazil and found that when everybody else laughed, I didn't and when I laughed everyone looked at me like I was crazy. I realized that they were laughing at the cartoon aspects of the show (say, Bart doing something on his skateboard) while I was laughing at references to US culture, which were often too subtle to be noticed by the Brazilians who had less exposure to it. Of course Barney ripping the drinking fountain off the wall and throwing it through the window to escape the hospital (where he was visiting Homer) was funny for everyone, but for different reasons.
They had this in the past. You could buy a Mac witha 486 daughter card. We had one in the dorms. Nobody used Windows on it. When they did, they had a hard time figuring out how to eject the floppy.
There isn't much to memorize to solve in under 3 minutes. I have 3 "moves" memorized and I can solve the 3x3x3 cube in about 2 minutes consistently. The 4x4x4 cube takes about 10 minutes and the 5x5x5 cube can take 30. Strangely the 2x2x2 cube takes about as long as the 3x3x3 cube because it is harder to twist quickly. The Darth Maul 2x2x2 cube doesn't have the nice colors to help you out. You have to look at a cubie and figure out which one it is by the shape.
True speed cubers memorize algorithms for specific situations so they never waste any moves. Once I was able to solve it, I never had the desire to memorize the additional moves in order to become fast. There are lots of sites on the net that will teach you a variety of methods for solving.
She still needs to make the recording that she is lip synching to. She probably isn't using her vocal track off the record. More likely, she laid down a vocal specifically for the superbowl lip synching, and used the auto-tuner to do so.
This world where everybody has "at least this amount of technical knowledge" will never happen. If you think that it will you need to lower your expectations for people and raise your expectations of Linux. People shouldn't have to worry about this sort of thing in order to use a computer. The system should be secure by default, and should be able to fix itself without breaking applications, in a way that is transparent to the user.
Your grandma thinks that a patch is something that you put on Levis and will never learn computer security. Why should we expect people of all profressions to adapt to flawed computers. Shouldn't the computers be adapted to meet the needs of people?

Computer says that it is September 12, but reading this article, I am sure that it is April 1.

Please elaborate on how The Beatles suck. I am really not following you on this point.
Please imagine what the past 50 years might have been like had the USSR been the only nuclear power. Yeah, the weapons are bad, but I fail to see an alternative. Perhaps you can suggest one.
I didn't say that you said that. I meant that the study implied that. It was a joke, so don't worry too much about it.
I know it was popular in the early 80's. Just wait until the live/CGI movie comes out soon and you'll see what I mean.
Garfield is popular worldwide. I know, hard to believe.
She didn't get the plate. I can only imagine now how satisfying it would be to have and old black text on white background plate saying "ACK THPT". What a lost opportunity.
Whatever these "good" popups are, I haven't missed them. If a popup is triggered by clicking on a link it comes up fine.

So what do they think of /.?

It is most environmentally friendly to not drive off-road. :)
