sure Scotland sees a lot of UFUs, but what about UFOs? Everyone knows UFOs always visit the trailerparks of the southeast US with greater frequency, weather permiting....not easy to abduct people while a tornado is destroying their home and plastic pink flamingo lawn ornaments....

  3. sucks to be successful on Moby Says Techie Fans = Fewer Sales · · Score: 1

Moby had an incredibly successful album (though not his first), and just like many first novelists, his next one is judged by a much higher standard.

if moby wants to be successful, he needs to top himself. if he can't do that, well he should have realized that by licensing every damn song on his album Play, he basically has permanently saturated every one with his sound. We're sick of it.

Also, the thing that RIAA fears most about P2P is that people will be able to hear the whole album before they buy it, and many times, since commercial music sucks, people who like the single they hear on the radio, realize that the other 7 or 8 songs on the album suck.

The creator of the Smurfs was Belgian, btw, they weren't created by Hanna Barbera.

  13. used sales versus new on Record Industry Wants Royalties for Used CD Sales · · Score: 2, Interesting

I know that a few years ago when I lived in austin tx, a major label (warner, I believe) threatened to stop selling their music to a very large indie record store (chain of one) if they continued to sell used music. Management looked at their used sales profits vs their profits from the sales of the new CDs from this label... and gave them the finger, and started buying anything they need from that label from a distro house instead of direct (5% difference in price).

Less than a year later, the new regional sales rep came to their buyers trying to convince them to host in-stores and buy direct again.

Seems to me that someone in management accidentally sent their wishlist to the PR dept.

  17. forget the counter offer on Is it Wrong to Accept an Employment Counter-Offer? · · Score: 1

I have always thought of it this way: if you are worth a 50% pay increase to keep, why didn't they offer you a salary increase on their own initiative? I have always regretted staying with the old firm when I have accepted a counter offer.

It's the american way: "take this job and shove it"

when you take a new job, it is always a dice roll. but think about this: once you accept the counter offer, when will it be likely that they offer you another increase?

Starting up on another server is not nearly the same as "coming back online, fair and square".
