is a merger of your tv, and your internet. Everything at once, at your finger tips. The idea is simple... TV on demand, watch what you want, when you want... We would all like that. Especially if there were few to no commercials. Second, the internet, what you're using right at this moment. Example: you're watching the movie you decided to see, for no apparent reason.. All you Aspen Extreme people know who you are... and all of a sudden something pops in your brain because of a scene on the TV. The press of a button, and you're on google! You do a search, surf, now satisfied, you go back to your Movie.
Now even better... you're watching TV and see a commercial. Press *55 now to go to our web page!
See what I mean. Everything, in one box. No, not for us Gamers, or serious programmers, but for the everyday I-just-check-my-e-mail user. This is the projected future of the internet, and people like AOL are betting their business on it.
But with 9 years of surfing (using gopher for me) can I drop my computer and go solely TV??? That's the obsticle they need to jump....
I know.. I was just joking...
What we really need is a free exchange of ad (possibly text ads) between sites again.

Take away admin moderator points. You're biased therefore you shouldn't mod. Same reason I can't mod a thread I posted in.....
I'd even drop the adds, or add affordable text ads, so people can plug their own sites.. not something that costs 400 bucks or more but 5 bucks... or less.
I personally run an open source perl portal... Don't worry slashcode, I'm not competing with you:)
Just recently, a new developer came on board, and really studied the code. He successfully found about 10 odd / abstract ways to exploit the code.
I might be an ok programmer but I NEVER in my life would have found these. It's just not my specialty....
Without the code being opensource and open to viewing by others, I never would have thought to look for these types of expoits, and they would have remained in the code. And if someone, with malicious intentions, tried them... I would have been.. in short... screwed!
NOW... Two things happened here to require secure opensource programs. 1) I was willing to quickly make the changes.. and not just quick patches, but really study the code, and look for the best way to fix it. 2) I had a good samaritan.... He could have been malicious, and had his way. He didn't.
I personally believe that both are required, and then yes, open source is more secure and will always be.

I mean, look at how much it costs to buy a ticket today.. What, $8.50 round about?
So what you're telling me that year after year, with inflation, there will always be a bigger and better blockbuster according to gross sales? Why has no one EVER ajusted for inflation? For all I know the best and most watched movie way Ben Hur... hehe....
---------- They Did It. The Law School filed its lawsuit against me, their student, conveniently making sure I received notice thereof less than 48 hours before exams started. I barely had time to scan in the lawsuit and post it, but I did, and you can find a link to it below.
Many thanks to my wife, Jennifer, for putting up with me. Also, thanks to all my friends and acquaintances at the Law Center who have offered their support to me in this battle. Thanks also to all hundreds of visitors to this site who have written me in the last few weeks. It's great to have so many people--including many former LSU Law School grads--offer their assistance to me in this battle.
Now it's official: Louisiana State University HAS sued me....
My name is Douglas Dorhauer, and I am a student at the LSU Law Center. This site is my personal creation, built by me for my own use. In the event you find its contents of use, then consider it my gift to you.
Because of the similarity between this site's name and that of a local law school (of which I am a student), this site has recently been under attack. Specifically, in a letter dated November 30, 2001, Marc S. Whitfield of Taylor, Porter, Brooks & Phillips, L.L.P., legal counsel to Louisiana State University asked me to give up the domain name "lsulaw.com."
After researching the points in Mr. Whitfield's letter, I responded with a point-by-point rebuttal of each issue he raised. That response went unacknowledged for nearly two months before I requested Mr. Whitfield update me on his client's position concerning this matter.
Immediately, Mr. Whitfield responded with a threat of a lawsuit. I replied with a request to attempt an amicable resolution.
Mr. Whitfield's response to my request to amicably resolve the matter came in the form of a lawsuit naming me as defendant. Currently, I have just finished final exams. After regaining consciousness early next week, I will respond to the lawsuit, file cross-claims, etc. As always, I will post all correspondence here.
The premise of my argument is simple: all the laws Mr. Whitfield cites in his initial letter require a showing of "commerciality." I earnestly contend that this site is emphatically noncommercial, and, therefore, not susceptible of the trademark violations alleged by Mr. Whitfield.
If Mandrake doesn't make it, another user-friendly GNU/Linux distro will take up the slack.
No offense to anyone, but is this the type of attitude we're supposed to have in the opensource community? Is this the best we can do? Just to have a revolving door, of when they don't make it, someone else will do it, until they fall too... repeat.
Are you that cheap?
The Open Source community should be about sharing code, sharing to make better, sharing to contribute, sharing to learn from... But not sharing to mooch off of.
I say go ahead and mooch at first. Learn about the product, etc... but if you like it, then support it. I know most MDK users are fanatics. I am one. I also know redhat users are fanatics, I am also one. I support both buy purchasing future releases off of the web sites. I know the iso's are there... But I choose to support the distro's so they'll be there in the future with a BETTER product.
MDK needed help so they had to ask for money, yet people mock them for it. MDK is not making star office 6.0 free since sun is not making it free, and people mock them.
Are you a linux user or not?
Are you going to support the cause? Or just talk about it?
You can get the DVD's for the first season episodes off of the usual channels, but aside from having 2 episodes on each DVD, each one has great information on each character, make-up, design, henson animatronics, etc.
Agreed... I bet if we ever saw the source code, we'd probably see blatent violations of the GPL.
This, I do not doubt.
This may mean nothing but...

I'm using AT&T Broadband internet (http://www.attbi.com), Some one sends me a.tar.gz file... or a.zip file. I, later on, get an e-mail asking if I got the file... I hadn't. He re-sends. I soon get both in my e-mail later that day.
Now I'm not much of a conspiracy person, but... since when do we get e-mails sent second, first? Why are e-mails with attachments taking so much longer to get to me, then e-mails without attachments? Anyone else notice this?
I'm reading some of the earlier posts... With people saying this is not news..
What? Do you work for Microsoft or something?
This is pretty big news to me.... I mean the irony is killing me!
Mircosoft, the hater of all things linux and bsd, is using the said offensive material to run their site!
First off, that's just funny. Second, obviously someone thought BSD was more secure to run a server. Third, they know how to run a server off of BSD.
Now they'll switch from BSD to windows... That site will get hacked time and time again... Showing how secure it really is. They can spend on the money they want to on a slanderous campain, but the truth will be shown.
And I used to encrypt everything... Hide files, secure my boxes with passwords that were ridiculous!!!!
Then..
I had to stop and wonder why I was doing it. No one was writing e-mail to my using my PGP. Even though I made it available on my web site, and sent as attachments to people could e-mail me back using it. No one did. I bought secure removable media. A chain to keep it on me. And had it encrypted. Now i just keep it in a bag with my laptop and never bother to use it. My palm pilot has encrypted media. No ones ever touched it... I just keep it on my desk hooked up to my Linux box for easy syncing...
What's my point.. Do I have one? MAYBE.
I stopped because I was lazy. I didn't have anything to hide, nothing I do is that important that I have to encrypt it. My code is opensource, and my bank info and passwords, etc are kept on my linux laptop, not on a server.
I guess, I'd like to know Who is using constant encryption and why? For me, Encryption needs to be strong, standard, and integrated, otherwise it's just a pain.
This of this as an e-mail client. Kinda like PGP but easier. I write an e-mail. I click "send". My e-mail client checks the "encryption" server. It finds a match for the e-mail recipient I'm sending to and downloads the PGP file and encrypts the e-mail to the recipients specifications. I did not have to do anything. If no PGP key is found then it will be sent unencrypted and let you know that it is doing so.
Mandrake should offer to sell share directly from the web page. DRIPS - Direct Reinvestment Plan. Basically they sell the shares to us (directly from their website) we buy them, they cut out the middle man, make it easier for us to buy, we benefit by not paying outrageous broker fees (especailly for overseas), and they benefit with capital. All of a sudden these new shareholders have a vested interest in the company, a vested interest in $$$$$!
Mandrake has a more vested interest in keep us happy, and will cut back if needed on high over-head. If that is not possible, then the share holders would be happy to give more. And maybe, just maybe, we both could make a profit when Microsoft announces that it was Mandrake and the OpenSource community that put them into chaper 11

Ummm.. no..
So check your computer for three things... is it XP?
Are you running adware?
Are you running IE6?
If you find any of these true... Please delete. Expescially the XP one!
Seriously.. also do you have a P2P connection such as Kazaa?
Check your add / remove programs if your using MS, and look for anything strange.
