    However, in this case the *stepfather* left a gun around that killed a child that wasn't his. He may or may not be suffering, and it should be investigated.

    Read the article. Normally the gun was kept in a locked place away from reach by the children. He took the gun out because he thought he heard an intruder. After investigating, he let the gun on the table and didn't put it away immediately.

    An experienced java programmer could manage to create memory leaks using threads but you almost have to do this on purpose ;-))

    Wrong. You an have memory leaks in Java just as well. It's just more difficult.

    I'd even go as far to say that experienced people are more likely to cause a Java memory leak, because they'll be doing unusual things for optimizing/caching and what not.

    Usually, this involves Swing and dialogs that were closed and forgotten about, and not properly dereferenced.

    If the developers are staying late because the manager messed up, it doesn't hurt to stay late (but stay out of the way and order them food)

    If the developers are staying late because they come in late or they messed up, no, the manager doesn't need to stay.

    A number of reasons:

    1) I don't get spammed by email. I don't have to send everybody my new email when it gets changed.
    2) It's far, far, far easier to get in touch with people you've long fallen out of touch with.
    3) Adults are just as much social whores as kids are. We (as a race, excepting geeks) ARE a social creature, and we like talking and socializing with others, in whatever way possible.

    Add to that:

    Instead of itunes, I use SharePod. It's not amazin, but it supports both mp3s and videos. It does what I need it to do. I don't buy from itunes, so that's not a concern of mine anyways.

    For IM, use Pidgin. Pidgin support Yahoo, and a host of other networks.

    RealPlayer: To hell with RealPlayer. There's a crappy format anyways. Use Media Player Classic, MPlayer, VLC, or a world of other media applications. I do believe MPC supports some RealPlayer files as well.

    On Windows, use Foxit PDF Reader. It's not open-source, but they do have a free version for non-commerical purposes. It's fast, it's small, and they have it available in a ZIP so you don't have to run an installer.

    Who said it's about justifying piracy? It's not. It's still wrong, but it shows that there IS a market that is willing to pay for it ... if it was provided.

    Piracy isn't justified, but if the consumers want to see a TV show, they will. The question now is, are you going to sell it to them, or are they going to have no choice but to steal it?
