radios are verboten, i believe, since they involve *radio* signals, and there's the potential interference issue. CD players are allowed anytime above 10K feet.
(i don't know about everyone else, but my graffiti skills are functional only...not pretty!;) Freddy's computerised brain has a complicated programme for creating the designs that are constantly being improved and redesigned what would be really cool would be if the thing could run off of a more complex image, multiple needles and colors. Then you'd actually have something worthwhile...,you could do your designs on a PC, take your time, get it right, and then download it to the palm! BTW, my next tattoo is going to be color, not greyscale.;)
i can't agree though. if this situation was in fact under an open source O.S. (e.g., Linux) how would the tons of potential problem fixers get the details unless the exploit was explicitly expressed on the Internet?
North America, at about 4:30AM of the 19th is about the peak time to watch for it.
important point! that, and the moon issue It's a shame the moon is nearly full that night, though....is why I'll be doing my observing closer to sunday or monday if the weather cooperates...
When the same laser was set at a lower intensity and fired at the same area, the material gave off a fluorescent glow indicating readable data was present. Lasers used on standard DVDs and compact discs read pits either engraved on the surface by another laser or stamped in mass production.
it'll be interesting to see what the optical drive involves!
also, i have to say...i think accidents make the best discoveries!;)

i'm looking forward to when my ibook is part of that kind of collection. it's sort of funny how things look so sleek and modern and neat when they first come out and then look absolutely dated 15 yrs later.
i guess the most interesting ones to me are the macs (or any other machine) that retain their sex appeal even after all that time...and there aren't too many of those...
that i'll continue to make my cell my main phone. now if i could just get a bogus number for all the times i don't want to give out my cell number for fear of it being sold...;)
been there done that indeed...go look up the Union Pacific locos, among others.
and know why it died? JETS ARE F(*&^ING LOUD!. How many of you live near a railroad? imagine every one of the trains that passes being a jet instead! doh!;)
good call. this has always made me nuts. why are we always looking for water? guy in the article: "For life, you need a volume of water, not just tiny droplets."
what a crock! should read: for my dachsund, you need a volume of water, and that's all i can get my mind around right now."
my g4 tower might look nice in queen nude knee-highs.;) seriously, great idea. black would probably work great. then my wife can laugh at me as i try to calcluate the loss of air/CFM flow...
i've never done anything this exotic, but whenever i add a larger fan to a PC, it sucks in a ton more dirt. anyone done anything like this with filtration? and if so, how much air flow did that block for you?
I don't think that this article really focused enough on the issue of making money in software (truth is this article is all over the place, IMO).
But I think that the thing that's wrong with making money on software is when a company devolves into making really crappy products, producing them at about $4/each, and then selling them for 100X that.
The hook I think is when that crappy software becomes so prevalent that people who can't afford it are actually at a disadvantage because it's so prevalent.
It's a little more abstract than what this article talks about, but I personally think there's something to be said for responsibility in creating and marketing and selling software. Ideally, the product would be good, and it would be priced in such a way that the company making it can make a profit. Otherwise, why would they produce it, right? But that doesn't mean that a company should gouge its (willing or less-than enthusiastic) customers.
In my opinion, any company is responsible to price their product in a somewhat reasonable manner. That a company has a near monopoly on a product does not mean that it should price its products such that they're totally inaccessible to most of the world.
actually, FWIW, I've had these problems a lot *before* installing Jaguar. now they seem to have gone away (i'm a dumbass for saying something....they'll probably leap back as soon as i finish posting this;)
I've seenthese, and have wondered if these sites ever really tell you where they got your address. I.e., I suspect that they start with a list like every other spam-oriented site or company, but if I enter my friends email, and she guesses correctly that I'm the one with the crush, does the site say so? Or does it let you keep dumping email addresses in there till you tire of it (and they have more addresses)...something tells me it's the latter.;)
what a crock of sh!t of an article: Then Dresdner discovered a bonus: Linux, the upstart open-source operating system, was not only cheaper -- but also faster. The Unix servers took 17 hours to calculate how much cash the bank needed in reserve to offset its investment risk. The Linux servers made the same calculation in 11 minutes.

...because if that had happened anywhere near my house, it would've been *much* uglier.

this might actually do us some good, as chimps and humans are 99% alike as DNA is concerned...

10 gig ipod + car kit...a little of my time to make sure it has somewhere to sit...less than $600...
that would result in some undesirable emissions, i'm sure...
for those of us who don't spell so good... :
maybe it would be good for compiling slashdot stories...
