I applaud their move. Some people might try (and I'm using the word try ) to argue some things are worst, i.e. : murders or whatever else, but the truth is that children whom have gone through such experiences are often terrified and have a very difficult time to talk about it, not only because it's an awful thing to go through, but often their vocabulary doesn't permit them to express themselves as they want to, and this will result in the person growing up with deep psychological issues all his/her life.
I usually laugh at the people trying to ban violent video games (OMG think of the kids!!) or other similar non-sense but the truth is
Pedophilia is no laugher matter. Hurray for Google even if they did this only because they felt the pressure, I hope others follow in their footsteps!
Mod parent up, I totally agree with this. When I was younger, I purchased my first CD writter (2x) and back then I decided to acquire a cd writter for the exact reason the parent post explained, I was tired of paying upwards 20$ for a CD with 1 or 2 good tracks out of the 10-15 tracks it had.
I remember the Game Genie and using it but I was too young to be interested by news. What I do know about the Game Genie, is that unlike an unlocked iphone or a modchip, it doesn't cause a lost of revenu to anyone. A GG would allow you to cheat, while with a modchip people who sell video games loose money (from the creators to the retailers) and for an unlocked iPhone AT&T looses revenu
Fine, but once he's proved he did nothing wrong (ie: they looked through his bag and they matched all the items to a rcpt, why should he still have to provide his driver's license to identify himself!?
You would of been correct in saying your seocnd statement is an analogy of the first one in a court setting, but it's definately not a translation. An accurate translation of your comment would be:
Read the post again, they didn't blame him for what someone else did.. At the most they were demanding, but once again, I'm on their side with this. All he had to do was to get a notorized letter (it would be too easy to fake a letter from your landlord) saying that you're a new tennant, not the one who accumulated the huge bill. If the guy truely is the same tennant who accumulated the big bill in the first place, the landlord probably won't take the chance of lying in a notorized letter, therefore preventing the deadbeat from getting cable services again or forcing him to pay his current bill.
Or, maybe he doesn't want to make himself a target and figured if he didn't admit to having an e-mail people wouldn't try to gain access to his account. But then again this won't stop someone from comprimising an entire e-mail server and then stumbling upon his account. I guess this is just another reason why usernames shouldn't be so identicale to the person's name, I personally always thought cryptic usernames (a few letters followed by numbers, not your initials btw) are a good idea. If someone gains access to your e-mail server, at least there isn't a big red bull's eye painted on your e-mail account.
I'm guessing this is standard practice for lots of companies, think about how easy it would be for someone to run up a big bill and all of a sudden call the provider and pretend to be someone else who just moved in to avoid paying the huge bill. it probably has been done before (just show up to pay your bill caash every month, no credit cards to verify your name)and that's why they're so strict now. I'm with them on this one.
Anyone who's got a decent policy in regards to the workplace network, will have a rule in their policy which reads something like this:
Hardware other then the one which is office supplied may not be connected to the network until it has been verified/approved by the IT staff.
If they don't have that type of rule in their policy they should just hire someone more competant.. If you are the IT staff I guess you should start looking for another job if you someone infected the network.
Has this been announced anywhere yet? And even if it had, more power to the consummer! don't buy from those manufaturers and stick with building your own PC (works for me) Either ways to some extent the consummer always has a choice and it's up to him/her to stand up to the crap they don't believe in (as in care enough and take the time to buy from someone else who's not imposing that stuff on you) and let their opinion be heard.
Although I don't usually agree with trying to pressure a monopoly on people, Google is the tweaker behind this customized IE which was created especially for the purpose of using Google services on an IE platform. Nothing wrong with what they did, if someone doesn't want to be forced using Google as a search engine then just use the standard IE that comes with every copy of Windows instead of downloading Google's customized version.
The Investor: Amanda Reed, partner, Palomar Ventures
What she's backed: Attensity, Edgewater Networks
What she wants now: A Web-based platform to make company spreadsheets--for revenue forecasting and other analytical chores - more easily viewed, updated, and shared by managers. Many small-business execs still rely on e-mailing Excel files around the office to share data forecasts. Software apps like NetSuite import data but not the formulas embedded in spreadsheets.
I don't see this as an healthy alternative.. what's wrong with giving that one time window, as it was originally proposed, and let people who are accusing others ACTUALLY provide proof anything at all happened. At first, I thought this was meant to add someone to the registry who would of got off the hook on a technicality, but upon reading the complete article it's made quite clear this isn't the case.
Don't get me wrong, I'm discussed by sex offenders! But accusing someone of doing something without going to court? Innocent until proven guilty is what some people from different countries move to the US for. I'm a Canadian, and I hope no such non-sense ever gets approved in Canada. If the Government wants to help protect people, how about putting more money towards fighting child porn. After all, aren't children who are abused at a young age more likely to abuse their own children when they get older?
"a notation that the document was "acknowledged before me this 18th day of April 2006 by Reviczky Paul, who is personally known to me of who has produced Drivers Licence.""
Note that it mentions, of who is personally known to me.. So either the Notary should be able to pinpoint EXACTLY who made the sale, or he's as guilty as the guy who ran with the 400k!
I think this is great. Anyone who's self-motivated and wants to startup an online business, knows that you have to running not one or two, but four, five and six websites to be profitable. This type of business is just another addition to your arsenal. Don't have time to do this y9ourself? No problem! If you've got marketting skills, or know where to get great such ressources, you can run a posting team, kinda like running an auction to see what's the cheapest submitter is willing to pay and they'll try to match it up to a site with that specific type of content submitter is interested in who's pay-out is obviously way more then what submitter requests to write the article.
Just to quote a snippet from the page: "Enwave Energy Corporation, through partial financial backing from the City of Toronto as one of the two shareholders of Enwave, developed the Deep Lake Water Cooling system that uses the cool energy in cold water to air-condition high-rise buildings in downtown Toronto. The system benefits the City by:
* reducing energy consumption by up to 90 per cent (compared to conventional chillers)
* reducing carbon dioxide emissions
* improving the water supply by using new intake pipes that are deeper
* investing in a corporation in which the City is a shareholder
Enwave's three intake pipes draw water (4 degrees Celsius) from 5 kilometres off the shore of Lake Ontario at a depth of 83 metres below the surface. Naturally cold water makes its way to the City's John Street Pumping Station. There, heat exchangers facilitate the energy transfer between the icy cold lake water and the Enwave closed chilled water supply loop.
The water drawn from the lake continues on its regular route through the John Street Pumping Station for normal distribution into the City water supply. Enwave uses only the coldness from the lake water, not the actual water, to provide the alternative to conventional air-conditioning.
Additional data found on the page (such as savings in energy (precise figures for Metro Hall in toronto) and other stuff. Enjoy.
But then if this was an illegal charge (ie: kid stole dad's CC) that means the kid was exposed to unsuitable material for a period of 28days, that's if holder of the CC bothers checking his bill. that 28days or so is unacceptable, as this is suppose to be a control system to make sure minors don't access porn. 28 days is 28 too many. The system would never convince anyone.
I have to admit I don't know anything about China's copyright laws so anything stated is a guess, but:
Knowing how harsh they are with censorship a logical conclusion would be they are as strict with copyright, so perhaps there's a law in China that makes it easier for them to prosecute.
If you've got some time/patience to look for it I remember an article about patents in which it was explained something like this: Microsoft got a patent which describes a system in which they display ads on TV between shows, and optionally offer a chance to answer perhaps a T/F or multiple choice answer (ie: what color as the actor's tie?) and offering some type of meaningless promo for right answers.
And what do you think happens when people unload on a stock? All of a sudden there's a huge supply which exceeds the demand. For that reason, people who trade with real-time quotes will immediately lower their offering prices for the shares since they realize someone really wants/needs to unload alot. To make things worst, sometimes ppl will want to unload "at any cost" which is when you can see the price of a share go down sharply. What this means, let's say bid/ask was 16.90/17.00 whoever wants to unload puts in a sell order to unload at "market price" which means it'll start selling at 16.90 and won't stop selling shares at the market price, regardless of what it drops it.
I applaud their move. You've been slashdotted!
New customers or not, we can all agree that Carlos Slim is pretty well off either ways, as he has surpassed Bill Gate' fortune
There is already a 360 view throughout the video, therefore it would seem the joystick isn't used to control the vertical axis.

If it was the attorney on the right hand side and I'd be Hans, I'd be pretty worried and probably thinking about getting a new attorney

Doesn't google spreadsheets do that?

The City of Toronto is already using such a system. Here is the link:
