Every patient that I have, has copies of their records - it's easy to get copies of you medical records here in the US. Pretty much every radiology dept will give you a copy of your images and report if you want. The artical poster is not complaining about any problems getting records - they're just asking about how to make a copy.
The Hospital owns the X-rays - you are paying for the professional reading cost for the diagnosis, and the time and materials to make that diagnosis. EVERY hospital in America works that way - it's just the way it is. You may try to argue with them, but that's the reality of it.

That poor quality of scanning might fly if you just want to evaluate some obvious like an obvious fracture, but if it is something more subtle, where fine resolution is critical, like a small lung mass, or a bone tumor, then this would be useless. Take a look at the image specs for radiologist PACS workstations, where they look at digital radiographs - they're impressive monitors
If this person cares about his health, (s)he should either borrow/sign out the films and send them to the other MD, or have the lab where he took them make him a copy and mail the actual films, if the lab is a non-PACS type of place.
They want a seconds opinion, but then want to send them some half-assed scanned images that he wants to make himself????? The second MD will be hamstrung by these images and might not be able to give a proper diagnosis, and you'll just waste their time.
I get those discs all the time, and a majority of the time they're a pain in the butt. 1) They're in Windows format, 2) the interface is AWFUL - no instructions on how to view multiple images, how to scroll thru a CT scan, etc. Someone needs to come up with a better interface for those.
UCLA radiology has been using them for storage for a while (>1 year), but only for temporary transfering of data. No onein their right mind would evaluate an image on these.

The grandparent discussion is talking about the feasability of a cable/tether to connect 2 parts of the spacecraft to allow for a spinning construct to simulate gravity - probably not more than 100 meters at most. The parent article that dismisses tethers is referring to the 20 KILOMETER ribbon/tether that was suppposed to be dragged thru the earths gravitational field to generate electricity.
These two things have really nothig to do with eachother.
Ever been to Greece? In the summer? I have and it's fricken hot 110-115 def F. I don't recall seeing clouds ever. This is in sharp contrast to S.F. where people are wearing windbreakers, and clouds are everywhere. To do the test justice they need to build a pine/cedar boat caulked with pine tar and try this in the Greek isles where it took place.

got rid of my college account 1 year ago - it was from 1983 (fresh year). I remember when MOSAIC came out (1992?) and was thinking "Huh -this might catch on." Little did I know.
Aluminum has been used in ceramics for many years, and is a very common substance in many transparent products such as gems (rubys, emeralds, etc)! This is really nothing new about aluminum, but news in that this is a really tough!! bullet-proof glass, able to withstand multiple! rounds from 30 cal armor peircing bullets and 50 cal sniper rounds. Typical body armor is good for one! shot from a high power slug because it shatters.
Expect to see this to enter the consumer market for things like - IPod nano screens, watch faces, scratch reistant coverings on eyeglasses, etc. The expensive weapons grade version is supposedly not much diferent from the much cheaper non-weapons grade version, so expect the $10-$/sq inch!!! price to vastly drop. I give it one year before we start to commonly see this in the high cost items at first (Rolex and Tag watches, etc)
Ever notice how lightbulbs tend to break when you're turning them on? - It's because of the power surge, which tends to be tough on electronics, and the same thing still holds true for most electric appliances. I just leave my computers on 24/7, and have never had to replace broken components. If people are going to develop the habit of turning on and off their computers mutiple times per day, then we'll start to see more equipment failures.
To be honest killing bacteria on the skin is not that hard - just a little betadine(iodine) or chlorhexidine and the skin is sterilized for surgery (mostly). Bacteria hide out in hair follicles, cracks, etc, and this device seems quite costly to do what a cheap wash will do. ANyway, that's not the point - it's the antibiotics given during the operation that kill off the bacteria, that allow us to operate safely.
As far as this being used to remove tumor cells, I again think this won't be usefull. Often tumor cells are TOUGHER than regular cells. When tumors are removed, one does so with a WIDE margin - i.e. I keep the tumor covered with a layer of normal, healthy tissue, so that I NEVER see the tumor. This ensures that any non-visable micro fillaments aren't left behind to grow. Intralesional removal of tumors have a 100% recurrence rate - this is a bad thing. Anyway when tumors tend to get larger than 5cm, the person will probably need chem and/or radiation therapy anyway, for all of the micro metastases.
70% ispropanol kills just about everything, including fungus and will keep them from sporulating (don't use a higher % than that or they will form spores and can then grow later on). You might want to try the soap, to remove the greases/oils and then the alcohol - just slosh it arond and then let it air dry.
One thing to consider - you might make a higher wage, because the company doesn't have to pay for your health insurance. Make sure you have health insurance for your family!!, and you. This can be quite expensive, and maybe worth sticking to the company, as opposed to being an independent contractor. You might want to look at the cost and see if you really are making more as an independent vs being a company man. If your life goes perfectly and you don't have any problems then great - you gambled and you got lucky. But what if you get into a car accident/ get appendicitis, or something worse? - Do you really want to pay out of pocket for medical expenses? What about eyeglasses or dental? People get into accidents through no fault of their own. It's nice to be an adult and PLAN ahead for the unexpected, instead of just gambling on everything being perfect.
Venom is supposed to be 6'3"(1.91M) and 260(125 kg) lbs - built like a big American football fullback, or the Rock (WWF pro wrestler). Topher Grace is 5'11"(1.80m) and maybe 165lbs(75 kg) - he's built like.........a skinny actor. Clearly, a judicious use of foam, muscle padding will needed. Clearly, another actor should have been picked to play Venom with any justice.

For example if the site is Slashdot your password could be slashDOG8cAt, on Google it could be googDOG8cAt, etc. You can get a little more creative when financial or other stuff is valuable, e.g. a different user name and password algorithm for banks/credit card sites, etc. One important note - treat every computer not in your home as being infected with a virus/key logger - DON'T use public computers for your financial stuff.
Obviously - for many websites, security really doesn't matter, and so the same password can be used for most of them - just don't use the same one for the important stuff.
Try Seasonic power supplies for 3 reasons. 1 they are recommended by silentcomputing.com (30dB noise),2 are over 80% efficiency (most avg 60-70%) and 3 rock solid stable. This means that it will PAY FOR ITSELF over the year. The company is based in Taiwan, and has been making power supplies for 30!!! years. They cost a little more, but the decrease in noise and cost saving over the year are totally worth it. They are pretty much all I use now - rock solid on power hungery systems.

This is for people who have had significant burns (>40-50%), massive injury/scaring, or disease (infection/treated tumor). This surgery only!! transplants the overlying skin and main sensory nerves and blood supply to the skin. People will look very different than the donor, due to the underlying bone and muscular structure, and will look closer to themselves. Yes they will need anti-rejection drugs, just like people who have had kidney transplants, but this is a small price to pay for people to rejoin society - as many of the people who have the qualifying conditions, feel shunned/ self conscious. This is an extrememly reasonable thing to do to improve a persons quality of life.
Just call everything mozilla and tack on the name to the end - like Mozilla Seamonkey. There should be an order to it - alphabetical names, so after SeaMonkey comes SeaOtter, then SeaPenguin - that way people know which version is the latest. Major upgrades can then switch the first part of the name , e.g. Mozilla SeaRabbit ->maj version change -> Mozilla TrenchApe. Obviously the names will need some more work, but a naming scheme will ease confusion for the masses.
