I use Linux daily, as my desktop. You are absolutely mistaken on the "only two reasons to buy Linux" assumption. The most important reason to buy Linux us to support your developers. I have bought many of the distributions you listed. Of course, in most cases, not until after I had them installed and working well.
I don't buy distributions for the discs, manuals or support, I buy them to support Linux.
This is the second time in as many days, I think, that I have seen this posted. Why do it anonymously? Be proud that your intelligence isn't getting muddied by RMS.
Damn, now I have to retype this all over again since these text entry boxes don't support vi commands. ESC just clears the box. I need a support group. I spend all my time in vim. I even use gvim as my default text editor on Windows. I have complained to get a distro developer to add vi to the installation system. Gentoo just did this. Nano was just too difficult to use to get a basic system installed. What do I do? How do I change? Should I just keep my dirty little secret and hope my wife never finds out? I hear wives will leave their vi using husbands.(No offense to the poor cat this really(sorta) happened to). Someone please help me. I am afraid to end this comment as I might accidentally press ESC when done. Ok, I will end this. Remember, don't press ESC.
Considering that the Marines, jarheads, are part of the Department of the Navy, no. I imagine it would have to be the Coast Guard. Those guys specialize in ocean rescue/recovery anyway.
Try a ham or a roast. In scouts, we used to do something very similar all the time. Mostly roasts. We used regular charcoal and sealed the roast in a salt and mustard paste. You then place the sealed roast directly on the coals and cover it with additional coals. It still takes approx. the same time as an oven to cook, but it is an interesting and fun way to cook it. It is genuinely the tastiest roast I have ever eaten.
I mean if you do not plan to run Palladium, where's the problem? This would not stop you from doing anything you do now. Doesn't the OS have to support DRM also in order for this to have any effect?
in favor of public sector jobs? Are all you people idiots or something? I have always worked in private sector, well minus my tour of duty in the Navy, and I have never, and I mean never, had to worry about job security. Sure, the economy bounces up and down. Businesses startup and fail. But, if you are good at what you do, and diligent in your work, you will always have work. It seems to me that those so concerned with job security need to spend a little more time on their work ethic and productivity.
I seem to remember something regarding this when I was involved with the Litestep project. The explorer.exe that is the desktop of these versions of Windows, depending on the version of IE installed, is essentially iexplorer.exe in a different mode of operation. I could be mistaken though.
Well, unless you have a minor surgery performed. Our neighbors, instead of wedding rings, got wedding tattoos. It really is the coolest thing. My wife and I are going to do the same on our anniversary. It can never be lost. It doesn't ever need adjusted really, maybe touched up. And you can never just take it off, so you'll never have to be tempted.:) And that'll be one less thing for her to have to deal with on her normal female emotional roller coaster. No offense to the ladies here; it's just my experience.
In Memphis. I have a couple friends that either work for TW or have a relative that does. They are testing this, to a degree. Except what they are testing does not require replacing their existing digital cable box. Appearently the choices are stored at TW's facility. They are also testing HBO on demand. One of them said they could select say the current season of Sex in the City and they get a listing of all current episodes for this season. The PVR like functionality is what intrigues me with them not having any kind of onsite hard drive in the box. When they press pause, it pauses instantly just like my Tivo.
This needs modded up. And I mean modded up by far. I don't like MS myself, but I also do not PUSH Linux or any OS. Matter of fact, I use Linux exclusively in my home, but I mostly recommend Windows to friends, unless they have some decent technical knowledge. Too many in this community are zealots. Everyone SHOULD choose the right product for the job. The really important thing in this discussion is the fact that government does not choose the right product. Government must ensure open access to data, yet seem to predominantly choose closed data formats. That should be the major arguement here and using the law is the only way to get government to see that.
And the only thing worth "bragging" about here is that the Gentoo developers were slightly faster at releasing a patch, new ebuild, faster than developers of other distributions. That really has nothing to do with the design of the system at all. It has to do with the dedication of the developers. Well, and it has to do with the fact that the Gentoo developers don't really have to test things as extensively as other distro maintainers. I have tried Gentoo. I admit I did like it. I now use SuSE though. I like it a lot more. I won't go into why, because I grow very weary of the "My Distro Rocks; Your Distro Sucks mines balls" arguements that seem to permeat the Linux community. We all need to stop advocating one distribution over another and just say "Linux rocks". Of course that leaves out our BSD usin' cousins, so let's make even simpler and say "UNIX-like systems rock!".
Since it has a power cord plugged in to replenish the battery, as stated on the poor little server. So, our next step is a fuel cell powered PDA webserver that can be completely wireless until slashdotted?
Go ahead mod this as flaimbait. It is. So just do it. It's not like I have any karma anyway. What the hell was wrong with Jar Jar anyway? I liked him. I thought he was hilarious. And that begs me to ask, was it just Jar Jar that ruined Menace for you morons, or what? I thought Menace rocked, and I am sure Clones will too. Anyone who hates these movies so much should just not go see them or buy the DVD's. I, on the other hand, will see all SW flicks and buy them all as well.
I must chime in here. Well said. Probably redundant to this article, but well said nonetheless. If more people could understand this concept, the world wouldn't be such a bad place. That's the problem though; most people can't comprehend this basic value.
No, I didn't pay for the magazine. I was at Barnes and Noble when I picked it up and flipped to page 37. I read the article, put the magazine back, then went to the computer section and bought "Deep Linking for Dummies".
Actually Wal-Mart, to a degree, does sell OEM Windows. Or, at least, they used to. But, what they were selling were HP systems with Windows pre-loaded. HP was the OEM, not Wal-Mart. These systems are still pre-built for Wal-Mart, I would imagine, by Microtel. Wal-Mart does also sell retail copies of Windows.
I find a couple things interesting in the page your sig points to.
1) Windows and Linux can coexist on the same computer. For additional information, refer to your Linux documentation.
Hey, at least they admit that Windows CAN coexist with other OS's. I was shocked to even see this.
2) The Fdisk tool included with Linux can be used to delete the partitions. (There are other utilities that work just as well, such as Fdisk from MS-DOS 5.0 and later
So, do they really think that DOS fdisk is as powerful as the Linux equivalent? They can't really be serious. You have to jump through major hoops to get it to delete an NTFS partition most times.
3) Also, Linux recognizes more than forty different partition types, such as: (see the page for the list)
Another surprise from MS. Of course, they do not mention the limited partition type support of Windows.
Well now, it may not actually be entrapment, but the criminal could probably get off with the right jury and lawyer.
There was a story where I live a few years back about a guy that stole a car, ran from police, wrecked the car, severely injurring himself. The family of the thief sued the owner of the car for damages and loss of income due to the car had not had an oil change in 15,000 miles which caused the engine to lock up under such pressure causing the wreck. That family won.
I'm sure the arguement here would be along the lines of some enticement on the PD's part.
This is actually quite a good idea. Of course, the hard part would be getting it distributed out to schools and having them believe it since it did not come from the mouth of Redmond.

Don't you mean NetGNU/BSD, since it is compiled with gcc and comes with many GNU utilities?

Someone should seriously mod this up as insightful.
You have quite a valid point here. The studios are sure to take this angle at some point.
I had to try. Just got 1384 mph!!!!
I just got him @ 821 mph!
