Why not? You have said nothing to refute it. I did. I said that guns are made for shooting people. Saws are made for sawing wood. Of course it takes a person to shoot the gun, but the gun's purpose is to make it easy to kill someone. By extension, it is a tool for wielding power.
I should mention that I'm not actually against guns, but I find it baffling that people argue for the "innocence" of guns.
You are a prime example of why citizens should be armed. You successfully defended yourself against an attacker by demonstrating power. You strike me as a responsible gun owner.
It's just a very fishy situation because of the fact that it is such a dangerous tool and that the majority of people are complete idiots.
The way I see it, there are two ways to go... One way, you don't need guns because law enforcement is good enough. This magical utopic society will never exist. The other way, guns are freely available and owned by practically everybody, so criminals know not to mess with people unless they're prepared to lose their lives. In this case, incidents like the Columbine massacre are possible.
I don't like either system. I think the best thing to do is make sure people are educated. It would also be nice to be sure you're not selling a gun to someone who would misuse it, but it's hard to really research that without stepping on certain liberties.
Feel free to email me if you wish to continue this discussion outside of Slashdot.
Wake the fuck up. People kill people. Firearms are no more dangerous a tool than a table saw.
You! Come over here so I can saw your head off. Closer... Closer...
Get serious: a table saw is a tool for sawing stuff. Guns are a tool for shooting people. It's logical to argue that if people are allowed to carry guns, they are well prepared to defend themselves against those who have obtained guns illegally. It's simple. Personally, I'd like to see a system where you don't have to worry about that, and I don't think I could gun someone down even if they had a bead on my noggin with a big 'ol revolver. All this despite the fact that I've played more than my share of violent shooters.
Let's please not make the "guns are just a tool" argument.
As for the list: You'd think they'd list toys that can physically hurt children because of poor construction / engineering. "Maybe we shouldn't have gotten Johnny that Mr. Toolbox buzz-saw set. He really liked that pinky finger."
Firstly, let me say that the pilot was well done. Stylistically, it was good. The roof hopping would be better if it were more exuberant, but I don't know how peppy someone in a heavy rubber suit can be... Patrick Warburton does a fantastic job with the facial expressions!
The question: Patrick seemed to dip into an unidentified accent (Yosemite Sam?) a couple of times. Was that intentional? Admittedly, it sounded strange to me because I'm used to the voice acting on the cartoon...
I just had a funny idea for a short story: Someone with a lot of electronics on them dies because they didn't eat breakfast and they were sucked dry of energy by their "personal helpers."
Thanks for teaching me something... I had no idea they used to show movies from 70mm film. That's awesome. I saw a short movie in one of those science theme park type things in France (Futuroscope) that was 70mm and something like 72fps. The detail was amazing, and the motion was fantastic. Dumb film, though.:)
It may seem overpriced, but remember that it is likely a very expensive unit for Sony to manufacture. However, the quantity shortfall right after the release was a Bad Thing. It was a disservice to themselves and the game makers.
That being said, I just picked up the PS2/GT3 package, and I'm happy with it. It's amazing that even a 2 player game like GT3 can keep a crowd of 5 people staring at a TV for so long. Something Super Bombad Racing (4 players) can't do, BTW...
Nintendo Gamecube Content: If they come out with a Mario Party for the Gamecube, I'm going to have to buy one. Those bastards!:)
The trick is you don't want to be worth the hassle. No store gives a crap about a yuppie food pellet ($20). They rake in a few million a year taking a 25% cut.
Totally off topic, but isn't $20 a "yuppie food stamp?"
Equating software written specifically to steal software or information from someone else to a tool which has legitimate use is ridiculous.
It happens all the time on Slashdot...
Is there a legitimate use for this guy's software? If there's something inherently wrong with eBooks and his software somehow fixes that, then maybe. I get the impression that its specific purpose is to pirate eBooks.

Actually, spell checkers don't address the more odious problem of people making the "you're" vs. "your" style of mistake which seem to be popular these days...
The previous post about Anime fans liking the movie pretty much wrapped it up... I remember trying FF7, and I forced myself to play despite the severe inanity (sorry: just my opinion) of the storyline and dialogue. After not playing for a couple of days, I was unable to get back into it. A lot of Anime shows require you to click off a few conduits in the old noggin if you're going to enjoy them.
That being said, I'm looking forward to the film, which I will see (on cheap night) for the visuals.
Last week I walked by a poster for the movie, and had to step back and look at it. While Aki's face is quite well done, it's still visually CG. What impressed me was some of the other faces on the poster. The sidelong glance I had given the poster when I walked by told me they were real, which is why I had to stop.
I can't quite put my finger on what makes the pictures look CG, though. It seems like their faces (including the eyes) are too uniform in color tone.
Heh. Wonton act of goodwill. I like that... Does that mean they gave them all the noodle-dough dumplings they could eat? :)

Yeah! Stick it to those darn Canadians! God Bless America! And screw Water! Screw Physics too!
:)
That was really funny. Just so you know. It's also very sad. At any rate, I have no mod points...
The Tick (live action) is played by Patrick Warburton, in case you wanted to know for sure.
I did. I said that guns are made for shooting people. Saws are made for sawing wood. Of course it takes a person to shoot the gun, but the gun's purpose is to make it easy to kill someone. By extension, it is a tool for wielding power.

Thanks for pinpointing the source of that sample. I'm happy now.
(Really OT)
Well, if someone writes that, email it to me.
I saw A.I. for the first time the week after the towers went down. You see one tower standing and one bent over in the movie. That was weird.
The PS2 has 2 USB ports. Sure, it's more _fun_ to make your own keyboard interface... ;)
"Surely, madam, I..."
"Ah, sod off!"
Well, "Reload" would be cooler. Plus they could use the Ministry song...
That's it.

The dialogue here may be interesting (on occasion) but it looks like it was transcribed by 2nd graders.
Well, Napster was created specifically to do something illegal. Let's not pretend it wasn't.
Not just Outlook: I received a panicked call from a Eudora user who had been infected as well.
Totally off topic, but isn't $20 a "yuppie food stamp?"
(Rather than food pellet)
Very Close.
You are correct.
