WordPerfect 5.1 had pulldown menus and 6.0 had a toolbar similar to Word's. Corel WordPerfect 6.2 for DOS is still a great word processor even now, imho, and to me no harder to get running with as a n00b than Word.
Apple IIgs is only a 16-bit machine, if you're lucky you might be able to cajole ELKS onto it. I'd be willing to give it a stress test. There is GNO, but it's not quite as open as I'm sure we'd all like, ROFL.
No one saying that if this is open sourced someone can't take it and do a clone under a different license (which would be more compatible than say GIJ).
