I did this once with the LA Times. We already get the Sunday edition, which we barely read any part of, and they are always calling and offering to send us the weekday editions.
When I asked to be placed on their no-call list, they simply said "but you're already a subscriber". Apparently, once they have a business relationship with you, they can call you all they want.
And, yes, we are considering unsubscribing to the paper just to get rid of the phone calls.
We've spent a lot of time discussing how to educate John Q. Public on this issue. There would be no better way of educating, and subsequently rallying, the American consumer in the shortest possible time than to pass this law.
I'm using Road Runner and I certainly am not being charged extra.
You will be.
Follow the link to the previous/. article and, thence to NetworkWorld, and you'll see:
"Some users take up an inordinate amount of bandwidth," says Mike Luftman, a spokesman for Time Warner Cable. "Anyone staying below a total amount of bits moved per month won't pay more. But if you consistently go over the limit, you're going to have to pay."
One work-around that occurred to me is to choose a third-party or no-party candidate who is nowhere near winning and nowhere near the spending cap, and then claim to be supporting them.
If that's true, then why couldn't anyone (including the Republicrats) just run an alternative (second) write-in candidate, and credit their ads to him? Running the write-in candidate would save them the money required to put him on the ballot and avoid significant dilution of the vote for their primary candidate.
[I'll readily confess that I haven't followed this whole issue as closely as I (a voter) should. That's largely due to the fact that I've given up on the whole process. Congress critters are not about to give up their positions.]
You can't have electricty forced down your wires if you haven't turned on the lights, you can have bits forced into your PC if you haven't powered up IE.
What's more, I leave my PC off most of the time. But the cable modem is always on, and therefore has a valid IP adr.
Does that mean that someone could ping bomb my account even though my computer is off? (Yes, as a matter of fact, I am ignorant with regard to exactly how cable modems work.)
I can transmit my whole genome in a few seconds, While the silicone guys find ways of speeding this benchmark up, I'm looking for ways of slowing it down.
In the US, you can get a court appointed lawyer for a criminal case. This case would have been a civil case.
IIRC, if you are economically disadvantaged (poor), sometimes you can apply to programs that will help you with a civil case, but I think that is usually done only for certain cases (like if you are being evicted from your home).
Not only that, but the goal of EQ is to give you just barely enough to do that you keep paying the monthly fee, but not so much that you spend a significant amount of time online. In other words, for EQ: profit = subscription - time online
Ideally, they would like you to subscribe, but never log on.
This is very different from cigarettes (which are used as an analogy to EQ). The goal of cigarette manufacturers is to make you use their product as much as possible. This is because their profit comes from a fraction of each unit consumed.
It's called the "Consumer Broadband and Digital Television Promotion Act". But why does Congress need to promote either broadband or digital TV? If they are truly of value, won't they develop without help?
Why not let it slide for ten or twenty years and then revisit the issue if nothing has developed?
Man, I'm ticked.
You mean I've got to evolve all over again?
Tell them, "please remove me from your list"

Yeah, covering up the lower 25% of the screen is gonna make us miss the good stuff!
My words to programmers of the future...
"Sorry about the mess. Fix it."
The government having been bought by the corporations, they will probably discard any criticism of DRM as being "out of scope".
Note that every topic on the list directs the discussion towards "how to make DRM a success".
There is no topic called "Does the implementation of DRM benefit the consumer?" or "Is DRM worth the cost to society?"
Yeah, he even said "zeitgeist".
You should focus the light that comes through the hole in the paper, of course.
The use of a magnifying glass in front of your first piece of paper (the one with the pin hole in it) will properly focus the light for best viewing.
Absolutely.

The last time I cremated someone you can bet that I buried the remains.
Yeah! The geeks are revolting!
Oh, wait....
Your Passport has expired.
Be strong, and you will be renewed.
I didn't know they had nesting behavior.
I go searching all over the 'net for +"nancy wilson" +shower etc. and find zip.
Later I find out that you're referring to someone named Susan Wilson.
And there I thought I was gonna see Heart nekid.
You will be.

I can see the alternate-reality story now...
"Those women seemed satisfied to kick and scream rather than try to enjoy the sex act" said the accused rapist.

Maybe you're bit-banging too fast?
And at 80 GB/sec., you'll be able to listen to all 95,791 of them in 3 seconds.
Mine turned black about 5 years ago.
Is it like a mood ring or sumthin'?
Just a thought...
What if the idea of receiving a mark is a misinterpretation of what he saw?
What if the thing he actually saw was a retina/iris and fingerprint scanner?
It wouldn't be so much _receiving_ the mark, as it is letting them scan you and entering the key elements into the database that marks you.

Yeah, Arafat would be claiming it as his homeland, and blaming the Jews for its demise.
