Directv doesn't work when it rains. Bullshit. I live in Utah, and I've NEVER lost signal.
Also Comcast DVR has HBO on demand, and free ondemand shows and programming I hope you get a "Your using too much bandwidth. Stop it or we'll shut you off. And no, we won't tell you how much your using." letter from them. Besides, I buy a PayPerView movie, and my DirecTivo records it. And who wants to use a UI designed by meth whore school girls?
Directv tivo requires a phone line to stay up to date. 267 Days without a daily call and counting. Programming Guide and Software updates come off the bird dumbass. Oh, and btw, I can record 2 shows at the same time while watching a 3rd show of the disk.
Heh. That's just the beginning. One zip code can have more than 1 tax rate. A city can cross County lines, customers can live outside city limits, and these things have an impact on tax rates. (Depending on location)
But the bigger hassle is the reporting requirements. Some States act as an agergate for reporting, but some states you have to file with the County (like Alabama). So imagine having to register with hundreds of sales tax collection entity's and properly file all of that paperwork. It would be costly for a big company like Amazon, can you imagine the burden of a small company?
The thing that bugged me the most in the miniseries was the eyes. The intensity of the blue kept changing as they moved around the set. Guess they couldn't get big enough black lights or whatever they used.
The 2 things that everyone forgets: 1. If you buy something online/mail order/out of state, and your state has a sales tax (actually a USE tax), you are _SUPPOSED_ to report it and pay the tax on your state income tax. But the states realize it's easier to target businesses than their citizens. 2. Sales tax calculations / filings are a bitch. There are well over 4,000 taxable jurisdictions in the US, a single zip code can have over 8 tax rates, depending on inside/outside city limits, county, ect. So, after you get the right tax rate, then you have to file them. This is what will kill the mom and pop operations, when it takes 4 full time book keepers just to the the sales tax reporting.
Wow, the real question emerges! Many home IP devices, like the Linksys line of routers, have default passwords. But, you can't access the interface from the wan side of the device.
Perfect example: AT&T Broadband just screwed everyone who purchased a cheap cable modem by dropping the cable modem rental by $7 and raising the internet access by $7. If a open standard allows other hardware to coexist on their network, they will do the same thing on the TV side.
It's when the company is about to be delisted, not bankruptcy that gets the Q appended.

Small Town: One winter morning, a cop car spins out of control going over a hill, and hits another cop car. This wiped out the entire police force. Now that's a small town!
Ever dial a Disconnected number? The tone that's played is part of the telephone system standard, and when a telemarketing computer receives that tone, it thinks the number has been disconnected, and marks the number as such in it's database.
Works ever time, right?
Oh my, you certainly caught me!
I got the update today for my Samsung Focus, so far it looks like a solid upgrade.
Check out Common Table Expressions in MS SQL 2005, you can do hierarchical queries with them.
Do you have any idea how freaking difficult it is to calculate sales tax for all 4500+ taxing jurisdictions in the US?
XM is also commercial free...
I'm on day 411 without a call and still counting, and it does bitch every day...
huh, my Series2 Tivo setup just fine over my broadband connection...

I'm curious, where does the 5-10% number come from?

Does anyone remember the $500 ZyXEL 19.2 modems?

With that kind of thinking, vast parts of America would still not have electricity and telephone service...

By default it's available in Win2K menu when you right click on a file, with a "make this the default" option...
That's why most of Jackie Chan's movies are so fun, he gets the crap kicked out of him, but eventually comes back to beat the bad guys.
