So if the US refuses to pay the debt, what exactly is China going to do? Raise an eybrow and express disappointment? When you take a loan of a million dollars and can't pay back, you have a problem. However, if you take a loan of a billion dollars and can't pay back, the bank has a problem.
Nah, you haven't realized it yet but you've fallen into the mode of a partisan hack
Let me introduce my friend Kettle to you. What the OP is saying is something that any rational observer will deem as exactly the opposite of being partisan. He is not refusing to look at any source except the one he chooses to, but rather agreeing to look at any source except the one which is FOX News. This is entirely reasonable considering that no serious media outlet considers them as news, merely opinion and a source of (Oh, the irony!) partisan hackery. Now, if you seriously believe that FOX presents news and is a credible source then I would like to introduce some ocean-front property in Nebraska to you.
if American companies quit outsourcing to India (and other countries) exactly how many jobs would be created in the American economy? How much money would be pumped back into the economy that is teetering between recovery and disaster #2? Are companies so stupid that they have lost sight of the fact that if America's economy fails and we cannot get jobs that pay a living (or BETTER) wage then WE can't buy those nice shiny objects they're selling?
While I agree with your sentiment it just will never work in the real world. Why? Game theory, Prisoner's dilemma, and many more such explanations as to why.
Some years from now, be it years, decades, or centuries, when our ancestors are poking around other solar systems, they are going to be pulling up a few scant words describing the likely surface composition and climate data of some of these planets.
Our ancestors will be poking around? Oh, you meant to say that time-travel would have been invented by then...my bad. Carry on.
I say take the BP engineers and management out, put in engineers from other oil companies and from NASA and Military and do what is necessary.
The Hell! Prius software has bugs, call NASA. Oil well blows up, call NASA. If the buck stops at NASA making it the last resort for all sorts of engineering problems, then why are we cutting off funding to it?
You might want to read a news item on this popular website which mentions android phones beating iPhone sales for the quarter. Careful though, sometimes the people who post comments on that site are uninformed jackasses apt to pull unfounded claims out of their ass.
Love them? I would be dead many times over if it were not for the short phrases like Griiiind, Boooom, Incoming Ink!, Incoming Frag! to know what's going down 1/2 a second from now. GOW was my first game on the platform, and I love GOW2 as well. The Horde is the killer feature. No other game comes even close. Just finished level 50 on Horde "Day-One" and am looking forward to the other maps!
Nothing of note. If they pull out publicly, they will continue to work with the Chinese through third parties. Shareholders don't give a damn about human rights or free speech. They just want their money.
Well, then it's great that a majority of google stock out there is non-voting stock and the holders have no voting privileges.
Slashdot has been around a long time and has a dedicated following, is it a flash-in-the-pan popular site? I mean,/. is really a place for people who were/are on the forefront of the emergence of the Net into our lives. Can anyone think of any single site that crosses more culture, economic, or age brackets? Say what you want, but they did something right. And picking themselves up from their bootstraps to comeback from near-defeat at the hands of MySpace is something to be respected.
When did you stop talking about/. and start talking about FB in there? Honestly can't tell.
In this day and age of drive-by downloads and when even a visit to the New York Times may end up with your desktop being infected with malware, I would rather that questionable sites are blocked. It is not a question of blocking access to non-work related sites, but making sure that the corporate network does not become a botnet. Employee evaluation? Nice straw man.
You ain't overestimating but two things pal, Jack and Shit. and Jack left town.

I also want things from it that no-one else might have thought of.
OMG, you are unique, just like everyone else.

Slashdot should auto-coralize the links.
1997 called. It wants its coral-cache suggestions to /. back.
Some people are born retards due to a genetic disorder, but you sir, are a self made man.

So capitalism does work.

I thought jailbreaking was legalised, no?
In 2007 at least, Sergey, Brin and Page controlled 67% of the voting power.
Sergey, Brin and Page? So Sergey Brin are two people? Damn! The more you know......
I live in Japan, you insensitive clod!

The government isn't collecting this information to spy on its citizens
The government isn't collecting this information to spy on its citizens, yet.
There, fixed that for you.
When's the news?

The concept of ISP's throttling all encrypted packets assuming them to be P2P traffic hurts your brain? WTH are you doing on this site?
Yes that is by design. Just like in C++ your friends can see your privates.

Quite frankly, I'd love to see trolls try to get first post on the guy's whiteboard...
He is using chalk to write on a blackboard you racist prick. Just because the guy is black you assume he should be writing on a whiteboard?
;-)
