- thank you for making my day... best post i've read here in a while... definitely brought a chuckle!
- i'm just wondering how much work it's going to take to change all my email contacts to a new gmail account from my current yahoo mail account... (gathering the list now):-(
my IBM Z50 laptop w/NetBSD runs off AA batteries!

- still going strong after all these years... still working via WiFi, still serving up pages, working as a serial controller for high-frequency transceivers and receivers, and still supported by new LiIon batteries...
- but it also came with a AA adapter, which uses (8) AAs and provides five hours of runtime!
it bothers me that i have.mp4,.avi,.divx and what-not for a variety of formats (such as PSP, iPod, notebook)...
- fortunately, i think this requirement is starting to go away... i recently adopted the Nokia N800, and all my regular movies, tunes, documents, etc. all work fine on this Linux-based tablet...
- this will seriously reduce my storage requirements!
(and i wondered why they were selling terabyte drives for consumers?):-)
FTFS: "Its Intel chip is the diameter of a dime and the thickness of a nickel. The MacBook Air will cost $1799 and up."
- what, it doesn't use a CPU? and with the "diameter of a dime" and the "thickness of a nickel," this laptop sounds expensive - plus, you have to pop extra for an optical drive?
- and no SSD?
- talking about being, pardon me, nickel-and-dimed to death?:-)
p.s. i love apple, but i'm starting to collect too many expensive yesterday 'puters... anyone want a Ti PowerBook or Cube?
i will be eternally grateful for being able to contribute to and write about open source software... my first foray into open source was in 1984 when i wrote an open-source graphics library (in 8080 assembler) for the Nec Starlet (8401-LS if memory serves)... i made a total of $10 off that effort, but the learning experience pushed me to try other platforms...
this was followed by a speech library for the early Macintosh, and after getting a developer's license, several XTensions for the 3.X versions of QuarkXPress... then a Palm OS app (still available!), and since then numerous scripts and client modifications for other platforms and equipment interfacing (such as high-frequency radio transceivers)...
but these were all hobby pursuits... my real money was made in writing about Linux and X... i didn't contribute directly to the wealth of software we enjoy today, but i certainly supported the movement and am eternally grateful for all the efforts of open source programmers - thanks, guys and gals!
so yes, it is possible to earn money with open source, even in related endeavors...
- interesting device using Deb-like app management... found some Fink scripts on board after installing ssh...
- what's not to like?
FM receiver built in w/automagic polling of station lists based on zipcode! web cam/camera built in video playback (nearly any codec - dunno about QT though) mp3 playback pdf, MS.doc, text reading web browsing touch screen two SDHC slots USB (albeit non-powered) bluetooth keyboard support (nearly any model AFAIK - i'm getting an Apple!) GPS support for external BT GPS units Skype (don't use it) IM support (all, AFAIK) games
- unfortunately, Nokia better get its defecation in configuration on its repositories and software management... at the time of this writing, some twit has horked app install off one of the companies software repositories through a typo in DNS ('repostry' vs 'repository')... i'd be dealing some serious whoopa55 if i were a PHB!:-)
i bought a Wii online from Circuit City for my wife's birthday... of course, it took a couple months of hitting CC's web site to check for 'in-stock' status, but i was able to buy one at $249 w/free shipping...
i just bookmarked wii pages from a number of on-line retailers and then would check each site while i had my coffee at the kitchen table early every morning... no biggie...
(there was *no* way i was going to phone or drive around looking for a wii - i'm not a gamer - i just think it's a fun console to play w/friends when they come over for happy hour):-)
- thank you for your post... it shows that there are some folks out there who realize what a bad company Best Buy is...
- my view is from a consumer... Best Buy will not honor advertised prices in local newspaper ads and will screw the local consumer by charging higher prices when walking in the store!
- i will *never* shop at Best Buy again! i urge everyone to be very wary of shopping at Best Buy and to purchase on-line or at other vendors with better pricing and better treatment of customers...
- the postings in this article only reinforce my determination to never, ever, ever use Best Buy for any product purchases in the future!

- thank heavens!
- the thought of drinking that delicious chocolate concoction would have been forever ruined.
- alas, anyone can be a journalist today... unlicensed, no ethics, no standards, etc.
- hell, stringers of yesteryear were better than the 'big names' today...
WoW! you just made life a *lot* easier for me!
thanks for the link to the nice term.app!

eff the mods!
ooh rah!

- didn't we go through this once before, like 14 years ago?
(i still have my O'Reilly set of BSD books and the accompanying 'litigation-free software' CD!)
+1 funny, but also astute!

here's hoping to your success...
just sayin'
i'm loving my Nokia Nseries Linux tablets!
- the movie industry has been blowing out DVDs in the sub-US$10 range for some time...
- OTOH, the recording industry has been flogging rehashed recompilations in the US$10+ range over the past few years...
- why does the movie industry 'get it,' but the recording industry doesn't?

:-)
- now i have to pay for overnight shipping!
about.com took my page on a pet project, then played it off as part of their content...
:-)
somehow this behavior stopped when i changed the top-leading content on the page into an anti-about.com rant...
JMHO...
I'm sure it tastes good, but shouldn't Wales be concentrating more on fixing WP's more recent PR problems?
(and no, i don't think i'd tell my students to use WP as a starting point or primary source)

- rather telling about how some Wikipedia administrators feel about contributors and users, eh?
- dunno if there are others on the market? i love this player because:
:-(
1. it supports ogg vorbis
2. it uses a single AA battery, so no complicated charger or proprietary battery!
3. it is lightweight, compact, and works great!
