Something I discovered by accident, but wish to revisit soon - buying a stack of CDs at places like Goodwill. a dollar or so per disc and the randomish selection means I can try new artists at very low risk. And yes, they all get ripped for home play. Though to be fair, I stream Pandora out and about because I like the way I've themed my stations.
This mat sound weird, but one of the few things I personally dislike about Pandora is the lack of human banter. I don't want constant station IDs or "witty" sports coverage. But if I listen to a couple hours of Pandora I start to feel isolated. One thing I'd almost pay for is a way to hear ads, but local ads FROM OTHER CITIES. The few times I bother to stream specific radio stations directly, I love hearing local ads and personalities from time to time.
I *HATE* our local news because living far enough off the coast to avoid many hurricanes while being outside of tornado zones means a heavy rainstorm is a weather event for some of these chuckleheads. I don't know how many times a year they throw up the weather graphic or break into regular programming to update us on... rain...
I'm not saying these storms aren't sometimes dangerous. Some bring high winds or flash flooding (think yards and creeks, not rockslides or cars sliding away). But they'll hype up weather because that's where the eyeballs are. Apparently. So much so they advertise their weather apps and coverage pretty much year round with lots of dramatic soundbites from historical reporting.
I stopped watching local newscasts when it became apparent ratings were more important than relevant local information.
Actually, because we're paying maybe half what we were before for movie tickets, we are buying drinks or popcorn more regularly. We still bring our own sometimes but will often add on a concession item.
If you don't know why Battlefield Earth was made, and you aren't averse to reading about Scientology, you might enjoy reading up on L. Ron Hubbard and his quest for... sci-fi religious superiority?
If you're looking for an easy to use Linux desktop, have you considered Mint? It's ben two years since I used it, but with the Cinnamon DE it was very Windows-like. Easy enough to put some icons on the desktop.
If you were looking to do something more locked-down and kiosk-like, then I'm no help - have never researched that.
Same here! I also loved the occasional "BBS Parties" where the sysops would host get-togethers. Was so neat to meet the people behind the aliases and see how your favorite boards were run!
I'm against draconian DRM as much as the next free spirit, but that applies to purchased content (or format-shifted purchased media). Netflix is streaming, where no ownership is transferred. Therefore, the expectation of expiration checkins doesn't seem out of place or particularly onerous.
Unless you work more than 125 miles or so from home, it's all good. More than 250 miles of range on a full charge will get you back home for more juice.
Two years ago when my mom-in-law died, my wife posted a tribute she made with old home movies, set to Bette Midler's "Wind Beneath My Wings." FB flagged the post on copyright. Two weeks ago, at my daughter's dance recital, my sis-in-law tried to post a short clip of her dance routine and again, FB blocked it for music copyright.
Are FB working on a revenue-sharing/monetisation model beyond the obviously extant copyright flagger they have now?
What's so hard to understand about the term "fake news?" A website posts an article with a misleading headline, incorrect body or both. Someone links it on FB for good or ill, and it spreads. We used to call this propaganda...
I'm as annoyed as most about the outcome of the election, ESPECIALLY since a lot of it turned on fake news as well as the Russian influence. My call for remedy? Decertify the results and reroll.
25 years ago, I thought I was so clever, inventing the "hand vacuum with long neck for getting bugs off ceiling" bug-sucker. A year or so later? Skymall. Curse you Skymall.
Yeah, the Teslas do fade out sooner than other supercars, but the 100D is a legitimate 10.8 - 11.0 second car. That STILL beats out a lot of cars dead stock. And while comparisons to lappable cars is pointless, there are still a lot of people who live and die a quarter mile at a time. Like the kids who used to drag all night on the new loop road they built near us.
Or, like me, you willingly accepted the bargain. I don't mind *Google* having my info, as it lowers friction across their services and makes my searches/maps better. I don't like the idea they can and do hand it over to the TLA's, but I'm not stupid enough to believe we really have any choice there anyways,
What I do not agree to is foreign governments or actors having that info. I install precious few apps, mainly because 90% of them are garbage, and otherwise to limit my exposure. That, and XPrivacy + hosts blocking lets me sleep at night.
I have a Note 3 running CM11 because reasons. But the newest I can get is 12 and I can't be arsed to go through the hours of reinstalling my apps (even with Titanium it takes a while because...). I use XPrivacy to control permissions so hopefully anything that tries to own me through an app-based vector alerts me. If it's Chrome into the OS itself, well, I guess I'm buggered.
Also be wary if your boarding pass denotes the "B" starliner...

Um... Not sure if you didn't get the joke, or...

[Farnsworth] First one, and then the other. [/Farnsworth]

Beat me to it!

By chance, was it XPrivacy, for location control and spoofing? Or did you find something else in the repo? Cheers!

I think I love you. I really needed a good laugh, and, like the man said, there it is!
This is one of those times I really wished I had mod points - Insightful, and supportive of a great show to boot!
Or maybe xNoScope_Pluto_Nubklrx?
Do you 2A zealots really believe Clinton is coming for existing guns? Has that ever been part of her approach to gun control?
Thanks for the clarification! So far, our refurbed S5s are working OK... *knocks on wood*
