  2. Re:HP on Choosing a Personal Printer For the Long Haul · · Score: 0

Fuck HP. Fuck, fuck, fuck HP. Yeah, HP was THE printer to get. No one ever got fired for buying HP. But, for home, HP can suck on my salty balls. I can't count how many times an HP printer would just die or mechanical parts were cheap. Even the little rubber rollers for faxing would start taking the whole document at once.

I was scared about trying another printer brand, but I eventually got a Brother laser printer. It works GREAT under Linux and Windows (my wife's computer... I know, I know). This is my longest serving printer with excellent quality and speed. I've had it for 3 or 4 years now. I loved it so much that I recommended it to another friend. It was super easy to setup. I'm never going to get HP again and always use a Brother.

What happened to the days of making your OWN? I remember playing Zillion on the Sega Master System, and then Phantasy Star 1,2,3,4 on the Sega Master and Genesis systems. Each time I would get a thick made of graphing paper and start to draw my maps and make notes as I went along.

Then one day I lent my game and very thick notes of Phantasy Star III to a friend, and that was the last time I saw them. I worked my ASS off! I still hold that grudge since then for almost 20 years.

  21. Re:MythTV. on Interview with TiVo CEO Tom Rogers · · Score: 0

OMFG, I just don't know how to respond to this uninformed post. I don't know if I should just kill you off quickly or make you suffer a slow death, so here it goes.

Tivo has a 30 second skip, you've just got to enter a code on your remote to make it work.

You might be able to get Tivo's 30 second skip working, but MythTV has an actual commercial detect/bookmark feature that marks where commercials begin and end. So instead of just clicking the 30-second-forward or 6-second-backward and estimating where a commercial is, in MythTV it works the way it says it works.

Tivo can record any channel, including HBO.

Umm... so can MythTV. I can record all channels, including HBO. In fact, my current Tivo CAN'T record HDTV HBO, but my MythTV setup CAN record HDTV HBO, and in fact all my HD channels and programs that I'm subscribed to. It's nice being able to watch "Sunrise Earth" (Discovery HD Theater) anytime I want to in HD and all it's glory.

MythTV on the other hand, run's on an operating system that nobody uses.

Then what the hell are you doing on Slashdot then?? That one sentence by should get you kicked and banned from /. But, I'm sure you are young and still learning.

Right now I also use my MythTV as a media library to store all of my MP3s, DVD rips, photos, and even transcode my videos to iPod compatible movies, and burn my TV shows or movies to DVD. I don't think commercial products will meet or exceed MythTV anytime soon.

P.S. Did I mention that the latest version of MythTV was released last week and included some overhuals including a Netflix plug-in that lets you manage your NetFlix account (of which I have and am looking forward to using in conjuntion with MythTV).

This has been a HUGE topic of discussion on the local talk radio stations and other media, the basic consensus is that this is RIDICULOUS!! This is that the only time we think the Police Chief is nuts, it is a generally regarded that he is an idiot. The Houston HPD is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, even though the beat cops try thier best to deal with political crap from above and scum they deal with on a day-to-day basis. This is just the latest crap we CITIZENS (not subjects) have had to deal with. Trust me, this is NOT going to happen, civil minded common sense people will correct this.

BTW, Texas is probably one of the most common sense friendly places you will find in the US, we won't put up with too much bullcrap.
