'Expensive' can be a relative term. I used to know someone who owned a small movie theater, and they often run on a razor-thin margin. The links you provided for comparison discuss organizations where the cost of an upgrade would be a relatively small portion of their budget, even though the absolute cost would be far greater than movie projection equipment. For small businesses, a cost of even a few thousand could be significant.

My take on this- Lenovo equipment is probably squeaky clean- they would be idiots to put anything in them when they know they're under such extreme suspicion. This is probably being driven by Dell or one of the other large government vendors.

I also think that as soon as Lenovo equipment is accepted for high security networks, and the suspicion abates, their equipment will be as bug ridden as a casu marzu left in an alley.

Agreed, but the proper course of action if the brakes fail is to put the car in Neutral and slowly apply the parking brake. This maintains power for steering. This is also recommended if the accelerator sticks.

Given this story, I think the safest course of action overall is to not pick up hitchhiking hackers.

  15. Logical fallacy- false equivalence on Orson Scott Card Pleads 'Tolerance' For Ender's Game Movie · · Score: 1

You are committing the logical fallacy of false equivalence. You list those disparate groups together, making them seem equivalent, when they are not. Some are seeking to expand freedom, or to support a political system, while others have a goal of removing freedom from others. Some groups spread oppression and hate- why should they deserve tolerance? I'm ignoring the 'crazy' modifier you've attached to each group, including the groups where it's not redundant.

Also, a boycott is not a form of an ad hominem attack. An ad hominem attack is more like "You're wrong because you're a jerk!" A boycott is not part of a logical argument, although they may result from one.

why don't we apply that same logic to people?

Among other reasons, because it's counterbalanced by the right to privacy. Cars have no such expectation. License plates have other purposes too, such as proving that the car is registered and licensed (not applicable to people), and to help identify it if it gets stolen (in addition to VIN numbers). Most people do carry a photo ID in case it is needed, instead of a license plate.
